Miranda Cowan reviewed: Beginners spoon carving course

"A great tutor that brings a clear and progressive structure to the course and is enthusiastic with a very calm and supportive approach to teaching. I really liked how we also covered supporting information relating to how to sharpen knives and the follow up hand outs. I now have new techniques to practice and am looking forward to recording my own progress and sharing my photos with Steve."

Jan Brown reviewed: Winter Woodland beauty- natural cosmetic making from woodland plants and trees

"A fantastic day - well it did start with cakes! We made a range of soaps, some from scratch then were able to create a variety of products of our individual choice (my son loves the blues busting beard wax and the energising beard oil, I’m finding the joint cream very good). Rachel is a great instructor, she gave us lots of information and recipes, guided us when we needed it and let us get on when we felt confident to do so. By the end of the day we all had a huge range of products and felt we’d learned a lot, I’m definitely going to start making my own herb infused oils and trying more of Rachel’s recipes."

david bolland reviewed: Furniture upcycling workshop - 1 day

"I absolutely loved the upcycling furniture workshop. It was perfectly paced, inspirational and I learned loads. Hannah is very patient and thorough and the small group style works very well. I arrived with a tatty, barely varnished stool and left with one that was completely transformed. I`ve got the bug now! Thank-you Hannah and Reloved Works."

Tread Softly responded:

"Aw thanks David, what a lovely review ? It was really great meeting you, thanks for coming all that way. I am so pleased you enjoyed the day. I loved your stool design and your attention to detail. Hopefully you will go on to create many more upcycled creations ?"

Chris reviewed: Turn a wooden bowl on a traditional pole lathe

"I had the pleasure of attending this course recently. I'd never done anything like this before and hadn't worked with wood since woodworking class at school! Steve was very friendly and talkative, full of knowledge and his passion for the craft showed. I was fascinated by the stories and facts that he shared and by the whole process of making a wooden bowl out of a seemingly unremarkable log. I saw my skill with an axe go from zero, to almost competent and I managed to take a small gouge out of my finger (my own fault, the tools are sharp!), but it was worth every moment. Ironically, the little wooden bowl I came away with is now not only the most expensive bowl I own, but one of my most cherished possessions! I can't wait to get some walnut oil on it! I've already recommended the course to a few friends, I'd recommend it to anybody Thanks again Steve"

Anna Liebmann reviewed: Woven hazel backpack with handmade rope straps

"How amazing to be able to make a basket from a few rods of Hazel. Lorna patiently showed us the different ways to approach splitting the hazel rods, over our knees or on a horse (?) and dressing our strips with knives into weavable lengths. She also helped us a lot by making strips for us if ours weren't good enough. The rope machine is a great thing to behold- I was too engrossed in my weaving to try it out which I regret! I'm so glad to have learnt how to split the hazel to work with and hope to practise further and take the skill on with me in my work. The resulting baskets from all who went on the course with me were absolutely gorgeous, we were all very proud and grateful. Thankyou Lorna!"

Emma Turner reviewed: Fused Glass - Taster

"My Mam and I recently attended a taster workshop with Julie - it was brilliant. Julie is just a wonderful teacher, providing guidance and instruction where needed & really encouraging you to get your crafty/arty side going! I really loved that the workshop was just my Mam and I as it was given as a gift, so it was lovely to have some quality time together. We both made coasters and with Julie's kind guidance, they have all turned out super well and we are really pleased with them. In terms of materials available, Julie has it all which really kick started our imaginations. Honestly cannot recommend Julie and her workshops more highly."

Judy reviewed: Needle-felting course with FURZIE at Broadway Tower

"Michelle is an excellent teacher making everything seem possible. I’d never tried 3D felting before and was delighted with the result she guided me to achieve. The cost and venue of the day course were both most acceptable and I’d recommend others to give it a go with Furzie."

Anne reviewed: Everlasting, never fading beautiful acrylic resin flowers to make at home.

"This course was one of the best courses I've attended. It was well executed with everything I needed easily to hand. We were able to choose from a variety of flowers to make and given tuition to enable us to make them. Lovely variety of colours to use. Friendly advice, plenty of refreshments all through our 4 hour class and a lovely lunch all included. Looking forward to going to the next one. Thank you Melody and Abigail."

Inion responded:

"Thank you Anne, so glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next course as well!"

Sara Charlesworth reviewed: ColourWheel art classes for adults - Maidenhead - Thursday

"I received this 14-week course as a Christmas present and it was one of the best presents I have ever had. There is no better way to learn to be mindful than have chance to sit quietly in a comfortable room with everything you need in front of you, forget your troubles and concentrate on learning a brilliant new skill. The teaching is first class - in fact our tutor is in the current 'Portrait Painter of the Year' series on TV. She is kind, patient and extremely talented. The classes are incredibly well organised. Each week we receive an email with exactly what we will be covering and some tips in case we want to try the week's technique before class. Most of us don't! But it's fun to learn together and everything we could possibly need is provided. In fact in the first week I did buy a starter pack so that I also have everything at home, and I have enjoyed a couple of practice sessions after each class - I find myself really wanting to do more. Everyone in the group is supportive, encouraging and it's fascinating how we all interpret each subject slightly differently. I have made a few new friends and look forward to continuing."

Ruth C reviewed: Leather Bag Workshop - Two day Evancliffe Leathercraft Workshop

"I have just attended the bag making course. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. Clive and Wendy are excellent at imparting information to their students. The course is split into manageable sections and because of this you never feel overwhelmed. They are always there to help you if you need it. The bag I produced is really beautiful and it is nice that you can choose what style you want and the colour as well. An excellent course which teaches you a traditional skill which has been around for centuries."

Evancliffe Leathercraft responded:

"We are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the workshop!"

Francesca Gilpin reviewed: Sculpture workshop two days with Jo Garden Art in beautiful rural Norfolk/Suffolk border setting

"What a wonderful weekend! In a beautiful setting with a well equipped studio, Jo provides a warm and welcoming environment and is incredibly generous with her time and expertise. She guided us all through the steps required to create our individual sculptures with simple instructions and clarity, offering help when needed but also allowing our own creative process to blossom. My leaping hare sculpture has exceeded my expectations and I am looking forward to placing it in my garden. Thanks also to Andy who helped pack it securely in my campervan! I shall be recommending this course to friends and very much hope to do another one with Jo."

Jo Garden Art responded:

"Thank you so much Francesca - and so pleased you and your beautiful hare had an uneventful journey back home in your gorgeous campervan ;-) I look forward to seeing you again and perhaps we can have a play with cold wax painting!"

David Little reviewed: Box making weekend in Cumbria

"I came to this course wanting to learn how to make a nice wooden box, having never attempted anything like this before nor the knowledge to do it. By the end of the two days I'm very happy to say I managed to make a nice box, I picked up new crafting skills and an abundance of woodworking knowledge. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this course to anyone who is willing to pick up some tools and be taught how to use them to create an item you will be very proud of. A special mention to craftsmen Mark and Richard for their patience and encouragement. It was a very enjoyable and worthwhile two days."

"Really enjoyed this workshop, Jo always explains the processes really clearly and is accommodating whatever your level of expertise. The rolling mill enables you to make lovely embossed jewellery. Jo is happy to share her expertise, her workshops are really enjoyable and terribly addictive!"

Joanne Tinley Jewellery responded:

"Thank you Sara! You made some lovely earrings and pendants, and I was impressed with how many pieces everyone made. Looking forward to having you in the studio again later this month!"

Wendy Cook reviewed: Silver jewellery earring workshop with WyeMade

"My comments wholeheartedly echo all those already left for Ann. Along with my husband and two friends, we spent several enjoyable hours last week, learning techniques and creating beautiful pendants. This was a complete surprise for our friends, who had never done anything like this before. This could have been an uncomfortable and overwhelming experience for them, but Ann immediately put them at ease and sensitively guided them to a successful conclusion. They were so delighted with the pendants they made and so surprised and proud of their achievements. Ann’s expert tuition really is second to none."

WyeMade responded:

"Thank you Wendy."

Jane Tromans reviewed: Love Your Overlocker

"The venue was spacious and appropriately set up for the course. The teacher was friendly and knowledgeable. The example sheets were a good idea to take away as a reference. It would be better if Rachel had stuck with either ‘normal’ or ‘standard’ as an example rather than jumping between the 2 words for the same meaning. The cake was delicious but, in a 3 hr time slot, was unnecessary. I would have preferred a lower price or more time on the machine. I was not ready to create a full garment but would have liked to overlock setting in a sleeve or similar. One of my newbie fears is calculating the seam allowance. Demonstrating techniques is great but I would have appreciated a crib sheet for threading your machines. Cleaning the inside of the machine could be shown."

Ruth reviewed: Paper marbling with tea & cake

"I attended the paper marbling course last weekend which was excellent. It was very organised and well prepared and the studio was lovely and bright. Dina and her mum were very attentive and could not have been more helpful. They have lots of experience of this art and the initial demonstrations were followed by plenty of hints and tips throughout the afternoon. The products used were high quality and the selection of available paint colours was really good. I left the workshop with several of my papers which were already dry and Dina has posted out the others to me at home. I was really pleased with what I achieved and would definitely recommend this course."
