Description
Selected by the Michelangelo Foundation, Laura’s glass orchids were exhibited at the 2018 inaugural Homo Faber exhibition held in Venice. Now recommended by the Homo Faber guide as a Master Artisan in the field of glasswork, Laura upholds the Michelangelo Foundation’s ethos with her glass fusing courses; aiming to ignite a passion for the medium and inspire new practitioners to perpetuate crafting excellence. We begin the day at 10am with a brief lesson on scoring and breaking sheet glass, followed by a demonstration using the edge grinding machine. You can choose from a variety of pre-made patterns, or better still create your own freestyle. The day is yours to play! With dozens of colours in sheet glass, powders and frits, you can let your imagination run wild. As the day progresses, you’ll learn about how different glasses behave under heat, giving you the best chance to achieve your ideas. As a bonus, you can design one of your pieces to be kiln formed into a clay mould. There are plenty to choose from. We aim to have the work ready between 4 - 5pm. I’ll give a brief talk at the kiln, describing the glass fusing stages of the firing programme. You will be able to collect the fused pieces from midday the following day. The kiln formed work takes another firing and will be ready a couple of days later. Happy to post. Usually around 10 - 12 GBP. WARNING: Glass fusing can be addictive. Prepare for withdrawal symptoms! Laura Hart’s award winning glass orchids, butterflies, ‘Picasso’ works and Rose Couture have exhibited in premier galleries around the world; Corning Museum USA, Etienne Gallery Netherlands, Vessel Gallery London, London Glassblowing, ‘Glass Life Forms’ 2016, Tresor Craft Switzerland. Collect 2017/18/19/20. 'Homo Faber', Michelangelo Foundation 2018, Venice. National Glass Prize 2021. British Glass Biennale 2022. Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2023.
