Tea lights, large and small.

Description

What is glass fusing?
Glass fusing is a process where glass pieces and decorative elements fused together at high temperatures in a kiln. Depending on the process you choose you can make many different projects from light benders to waves, lanterns, jewellery to tea lights.

What will I learn?
• Cutting glass
• Designing a simple fused glass piece
• Assembling a fused glass piece for firing
• A variety of glass fusing techniques depending on your design

What can I make?
We are not prescriptive in what you can make. So long as it fits in our kiln, and can be made in the time allowed you are good to go!

Most people will create 2 pieces on a half-day workshop. This depends on the size of your project(s) and the speed at which you work. If you decide on a lantern it will take you the whole workshop to design and create the four panels.

Ideally, arrive at the workshop with your ideas ready to go. That way you can spend your time making glass rather than thinking about it.

We are always happy to chat about your ideas prior to the workshop and to make sure that what you want to make is feasible – click the 'Chat with the Maker' button.

All the items that you make will be yours to keep. Once the item/s has been fired we will notify you it is ready. We can arrange postage of the item/s, or if it's more convenient, you can come and collect it. Most items are ready within 2 weeks, however, this can often be sooner.

We have some dates for these courses planned, however, we can run them as and when required. We can do midweek, weekends, so we are very flexible on availability. Many of our customers book a 'crafty day-off work' with the added benefit of feeling they are enjoying it more because they are not at work or eating into their weekend time.

How many people will be on the course?
We keep the number of delegates small, between 1 to 6. We do not mix people who do not know each other. When you book if you are booking for yourself or a group of friends/relatives, those people will be the only ones on your session. Small groups give you maximum tutor time and a relaxed atmosphere in which to be creative.

Jill and John are your tutors. They both hold industry recognised professional training qualifications. This means not only do they know their subject but more importantly how to share it with others in a form that is easy to pick up and in a fun and enjoyable way.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

• Learn to cut glass
• Design several pieces (depending on size)
• Use a variety of glass fusing techniques to
create your projects
• 2 firings in the glass kiln
(typically your projects are fused flat to ‘stick’ all the elements together. A second firing shapes your project into a mould.
Pieces can be collected or posted for a small P&P fee
• Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day (we are a 5-star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)

In-person course

Just finished our third workshop with the amazingly talented Jill. This time is was a half day to complete a lantern, which we did as well as a tea light and a wave glass. Jill is a very clear teacher who has infinite patience and great ideas. Offers help if needed but never interfers. I would highly recommend this course, no previous experience needed and you end up with beautiful pieces. Oh and she has scrummy homemade chocolates!

Response from Fired Glass:

We are so pleased you enjoyed your return visit and third workshop with us. Thank you for you kind words. Regards John and Jill.

Did the 4 hour course with a friend of mine and we had the best time. Just picked up our items and we still can’t believe we made them! Just an amazing workshop! :)

Response from Fired Glass:

Thank you Ida. You and Katrina made some wonderful pieces. Jill and I are delighted you are happy with them and that you enjoyed your time with us too!

Kind regards
John
