Learn to use glass enamels! Steve is one of only a few professional glass artists choosing to work solely with enamel powders to colour the glass (as opposed to using pre-coloured glass such as Bullseye). He has developed his own techniques for working with these enamels, creating unique patterns and effects. Steve will share these techniques with you, and take you step- by-step through the glass-fusing process so that you can create your own unique piece of fused glass art.
Whats the plan? After a health & safety briefing, Steve will be demonstrating the techniques he uses, from preparing the glass to applying the enamels, through to assembling the piece ready for the kiln. There will be opportunity for practicing the application of colours in the morning, and then a break for lunch. Upon return to the Studio you will then have the rest of the afternoon to make your wall hanging. Steve will provide as much personal assistance and guidance as you need.
Who else will be there? Places will be strictly limited to FOUR per workshop to allow everyone ample access to Steve’s expertise and amplresocial distancing.
What can I take home with me? You will be making your own unique glass wall-hanging, to a maximum size of 30cm x 60cm. You can create any design that you wish, perhaps taking inspiration from our local surroundings or you can bring some ideas with you. Your piece will be fired in the kiln the same day, and will then be ready for you to collect early afternoon the next day (or we can send it to you via courier for an additional charge if you are not able to collect in person).
Where is it? At Steve’s fully equipped studio just outside Totnes in the picturesque South Hams area of South Devon.
Where can I stay? We will be pleased to do all we can to help you make the most of your visit to Devon. Please just ask if you would like details of recommended accommodation in or around Totnes.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
The all-inclusive cost covers your tuition, all materials that you will be using, protective mask and apron, all refreshments including a lovely lunch at a local pub, the item you make to take home (and sample pieces you will make too), and fixings with which to hang it.

The taster session was a gift and I had no idea what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised. The evening was fun, relaxed and informative. Steve is a charming chap who is clearly a very talented artist. I collected my tea light after it had been fired in the kiln and was really pleased with the result.
My wife bought the taster course for me as a wedding present, one of the best I’ve had! Excellent course, Steve was good company and really knows his stuff, took me through the process and was on hand to help throughout. Plus the added bonus of a tea light made with my own (plus a bit of Steve’s) fair hand! Highly recommended!
Steve explained everything very well (didn't talk down to us) and was very helpful and obliging in assisting each of us achieve our desired result. He's a patient, good teacher. The day was well thought out and busy yet flexible and well paced so that each of us was able to make trial/test pieces before our main project. The advice about having something in mind beforehand was good and Steve even phoned beforehand to help me develop my ideas. A very enjoyable day and I intend to join another class in future.
I attended a workshop to make a tea light panel. Knowing nothing about glass I didn't know what to expect. Steve's guidance is both interesting and clear, with lots of ideas and support as and when you need it. I don't normally like things I have made myself but this is an exception , I am delighted with it and want to do more! I really recommend anyone having a go!
I had a wonderful 2hrs. Steve was very informative and I was thrilled with my results!!!
Fantastic day in well supported environment with a break for pub lunch. Came home with something I am happy to have on my kitchen wall
Steve is so helpful and exceptionally patient. It was a fabulous day and Steve encouraged us to make as many things in the time that we had. I had a very special project which Steve helped me to create and I am absolutely thrilled with the result. I would recommend this course for anybody who is interested in doing something a little bit different from the usual craft courses. I did the evening taster class before Christmas which left me wanting to do more. Thank you Steve, my Mum was thrilled with her ‘special’ panel.
I had a voucher from a friend for this course as she had previously done one. The class was fabulous and Steve was amazing, I am not an artistic person but even I managed a beautiful tea light glass and am very proud of it!
I am going to get my sister a voucher for her birthday and another for myself so we can do it together
A brilliant course! I had very little idea what to expect, but was thrilled by the pieces I took home at the end of the course and the process of making them. Steve is an excellent teacher. His skill, energy and enthusiasm were matched by his patience! He was there to answer all our questions, encourage, share his knowledge and where necessary ‘rescue’ things that possibly weren’t going quite to plan!
All in all it was great fun and I would definitely recommend the course. Am looking forward to the next one!
Had a great day with Steve and ended up leaving with a lot of ideas about how to use, and adapt, the techniques I learnt.
In August, we happened to stay in a holiday cottage in Devon which had some of Steve's work on display. In amongst the leaflets, we found information about the day workshops and booked a day of 'free style'. My 16 year old son, who does have some artistic ability, and myself, who doesn't, had a fantastic experience. Even as complete novices, we came away with a range of pieces art work we could be proud of.
On our course, the 'students' had a range of abilities, knowledge and experiences from none (us) to a craftsperson who was experienced in glass crafting & wanted to try out a new technique. Steve was able to adapt his teaching to effectively provide each of us with the level of teaching and support that we needed.
Lunch was excellent & was at a local restaurant which catered easily for our dietary requirements (gluten & dairy free). Steve even provided gf df biscuits for coffee breaks.
Overall, an excellent experience. If we lived closer, we would love to return to further develop our skills.
Completed the taster course with my Dad, it was great! Ha a great time with Steve and made some nice glass, highly recommend and would definitely do another course myself
Never done anything like this before but Steve demonstrated the techniques and talked us through the process. I did find it difficult at first as I was nervous of making mistakes but Steve was on hand to advise and assist. Very pleased with my fired panel and already planning to have another go with friends.
This course was exceptional as it was well organised and as a participant it certainly brought out creativity and it was particularly productive. There were many and varied resources in the studio at our disposal, which is very generous of Steve, therefore we could make many items.
Steve explained everything to do with glass fusing in a clear and communicative way that we could understand. He went over the names of the various resource and emphasised all the safety tips we needed to know .
Steve is very friendly, encouraging and interacted well with his learners and was always around to help, bounce ideas off and get constructive feedback from. I learnt a lot from Steve's enthusiasm, his passion for his art and him being a great tutor.
It was a really amazing course and I would highly recommend it to to anyone who is interested in any form of art and would like a day of creativity. My full day was amazing and very enjoyable, including the pub lunch, and I was surprised at all the items I produced.
I am definitely going to return to do a two day course as I throughly enjoyed the whole day and experience.
An exciting day in good company, Steve was a superb instructor with endless patience. I was thrilled with my finished glass pieces.
I am not a particularly artist person - I just love to try...under Steve's tutelage, I feel I really have created my own masterpieces which will serve as a reminder of the joy and utter peace a day in his workshop provided me with... I cannot recommend Steve's work and his workshop, highly enough... although I'd quite like to keep him a secret too, so I can easily book on another weekend :-)... he's brilliant, the day was like a week's holiday and Devon is just perfect. Rx
I enjoyed every moment, the facilities are excellent and you are made to feel welcome from the start... The glass work that Steve produces is beautiful and inspiring, he is so generous with his knowledge. Steve is a patient tutor, who makes time for everyone in the group sharing his time as equally as possible. I was encouraged to experiment with my ideas and push my creativity, which allowed me to produce several pieces of glass to take home.
Thanks for a great day and igniting a real passion for this beautiful art !!!
I came to this one day course having seen and fallen for Steve's work up in St Davids. I have no artistic flair and am terrified by a piece of blank paper or sheet of glass ... but Steve has a light guiding touch as he teaches the basic techniques and encourages you to explore and just 'have a go'. It was a day of good company, intense concentration, good pub lunch, and it left me with a great feeling of having achieved something way outside my comfort zone. Thank you so much Steve and Hannah.
Shelagh
Great from start to finish . Really enjoyed being able to try something new and being taken through it step by step. Steve was really encouraging , patient and enthusiastic which meant we came away with a lovely creation of our own. I learnt so much in such a short space of time
Hi ,
I was on holiday in Dorset and was hoping to do a glass fusing course with some one else but she was not available so i hit the internet where i came upon Steve’s site ,looked at some of his wonderful creations and thought i would give him a call, i was so lucky because at short notice they had me booked on a course for that weekend , i knew in my mind what i would like to make not even knowing if it would be possible !but Steve was absolutely amazing he guided me through the whole process (think a couple of times it even tested Steve ) and the finished result was just out of this world . I had one of the best days of my life with Steve learning so much about some thing i had not a clue about when i got there in the morning, to producing something that was beyond my expectations, thanks Steve i had ball !!!
After enjoying a 1 day glass workshop last summer in St Davids my husband bought me a 2 day glass workshop experience for my birthday.
I would thoroughly recommend Steve’s 2 day workshop particularly if you have completed the 1 day one.
It is 2 very full days, including 2 lovely lunches at local pubs in Ashprington (his new location).
The first day we mostly made test pieces to fire overnight. Steve took me through different ways of applying the enamel and demonstrated mould making and glass cutting, I did a lot of glass cutting myself for my final piece.
On the second day I made my final piece along with several other items using techniques that I had been taught. His enthusiasm and energy as well as his skill and patience is limitless.
At the end of the 2 days I was able to take home not only the main piece, but also several other items which I had made including bowls, t-lights, small wall hangings and all the test pieces.
Steve is very generous with his materials as well as his time and is an excellent teacher.
Excellent one day Glass fusing with enamels. I arrived as a surprise birthday present and knew nothing about it so consequently no preparation done whatsoever. Steve is a great teacher and very helpful. The full day gave us lots of opportunity to experiment in the morning making large tiles and learning how to apply the enamels to produce different finishes. After a lovely lunch at the local pub, we made our large panel in the afternoon. There was also time to make tea light panels.
We were able to make lots of pieces which Steve fired overnight ready for collection next day. I was delighted with my wall panel and selection of tiles which I am going to slump into dishes.
It was lovely to meet Alison and Lizzy and spend the day doing glass with them.
I can thoroughly recommend this one day course and feel inspired to continue with the enamels
using my own kiln. Thank you Steve for a great day.
Good company (Steve, Lizzie and Kathy), brilliant guidance in converting fanciful ideas into achievable projects with gorgeous glass to take home. My daughter was really pleased with the end result. Planning helped me get the most of the day and it proved helpful to have alternative ideas. Having ideas for stencils cuts down on time although for Kathy the surprise gift led to exploration and wonderful pieces.
A note on the production of stencils would help but Steve saved the day and we managed.
I have recently completed the one day glass fusing workshop with
Steve. It was serious fun! I learnt loads and was able to spend time
exploring different techniques and colour combinations with support
when and if I needed it.
I plan to return again soon to try out some more ideas!
A great way to spend an evening for all ages.
Steve covered all the basics inc the health and safety elements, then let us get going with our imaginations running wild!
There was no question that went unanswered, and plenty of support too.
Simply good fun, good value for money, and at the end your own piece of unique glassware 😊
A great new experience with a fun, informal group of fellow novices. Steve's expert understanding,
and guidance, meant we could all (especially my 15 year old daughter) be proud of our designs.
Steve was even happy to discuss our ideas before the course; I recommend giving him a ring and bringing any stencils with you, so you can make the most of your day!
With endless creative possibilities, the resulting glassware is mesmerizing with both bold composition and intricate detail.
The only negative is that it's SO addictive!
What a fantastic day! I really enjoyed myself and am SO pleased with what I made. Can't wait for them to be hung in place in my kitchen.
Steve is a great teacher - relaxed, easygoing, giving input and suggestions, but letting you do what you want.
I would highly recommend thinking about your design before the day and sending pictures to Steve before the course (which is encouraged and recommend anyway). That way, you know what you are thinking about is possible, and you can get on with making the necessary stencils before the day and therefore not wasting time on the day doing things you can do at home! Giving you more time to work on your piece (and maybe have time to make some little pieces too 😀)
Thanks for a great day, Steve, and good luck with the move to Devon.
Enjoyed the course, pleased with what I produced.
Interesting and enjoyable day. Very happy with the work that Steve helped me to complete. Felt that I learned quite a lot. Steve is very talented and produces some amazing pieces.
It would have been useful to have had the opportunity to discuss with Steve what I had planned to do prior to the day as unfortunately what I had planned was not possible so that threw me a bit and I then struggled to think of what to do.
The day was sometimes a little chaotic as there were plenty of demands on Steve’s time but we all had enough one to one support throughout the day.
I've never done glass fusion before and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Steve is a great teacher, very relaxed and very generous with his considerable knowedge, he ensured we all came away with a great piece of art ready for hanging on the wall plus a number of other lovely pieces that we spent the day making, what a treat ! I would highly recommend this course.
This was my second time one Steve's one day course. Thoroughly recommended, Steve is an excellent teacher and very skilled craftsman who is willing to share his expertise (ie you aren't corralled into doing what teacher wants but are given free reign with great input from him). We all had a great time! Very pleased with my own pieces, one already earmarked as a gift for a good friend. Will definitely be going on the two-day course next year.
This course was a wonderful birthday present and the day exceeded my hopes and expectations. I am no artist but with Steve's patience, enthusiasm and expert guidance I am delighted with and rather proud of the results of my day! Lovely friendly and relaxed atmosphere with great tuition and help so that everybody gets the best out of the day. Would certainly recommend Steve's courses and I'd love to go again, just sorry that Steve will be moving from St Davids.
Steve was very patient and a great teacher. I made so many things besides my wall hanging which was great value for money. Very enjoyable day thank you !
What a great day at Steve's glass fusion workshop. Superb experience. I really don't know how he copes with us novices ,5 of us wanting his attention , he is a complete professional and an extremely patient man. I'm sure we were all delighted with our projects. I know I am ! Can't wait for another try.
Had a fantastic day on this excellant workshop which Steve tutors so well with great patience. Delighted with my 'masterpiece' and hope to return for another day course in the future now my mind is full of ideas. Very rewarding and satisfying experience and I would certainly recommend it highly.
An amazing day where Steve helps ypu realise and expand your expectations to produce a piece to keep, appreciate amd be proud of.
Had a truly magnificent day at the glass workshop in St David's. This was a birthday gift from my lovely Helen and what an inspired idea!
Good company on the course and a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere. Steve is a superb artist in his own right and - thankfully - is able to transfer his knowledge to us students! We all had a great time and were engrossed from the beginning. The introduction was thorough and to the point. The transition to getting on with the job was timely - enough information to help us get going but no delay in getting down to working with the glass. Advice from Steve was helpful throughout the day - gentle pointers how to get what you're looking for and avoid the pitfalls. Good food at lunchtime and good company.
I was delighted with the results of my workshop. Just can't decide which wall now best fits my own "work of art".
Everyone says Steve is brilliant and everyone is right. I've done this course twice now and enjoyed both times immensely. I also learnt a lot, in fact enough to make me feel that if I did it once more (which I well might), I could even make something good enough to surprise myself with. The important thing is to recognise that you can't make the kind of outstanding piece of glass in a day that it takes a professional years to perfect, although several people in the groups I was with did in fact do pretty well. Their success was partly down to Steve's excellent advice as to what's likely to work and what isn't and to his hands-on help at crucial moments, partly because they came well prepared, and partly because they took real trouble and worked more carefully than, sad to say, I did. Because Steve is a really nice person who quickly creates a friendly and enabling atmosphere - on both the courses I was on, everyone got on brilliantly right from the beginning. It may seem quite a lot of money, but given the cost of materials, energy, and the outstanding tuition provided by maybe the best person in the field, it's actually very good value indeed. The premises are also great to work in and his gallery / shop a pleasure to see.
I had wanted to do a glass workshop for a very long time - this course was available and the date fitted in with my trip to the area! The whole day was fantastic! - I learnt so much and was able to create several great pieces with the help of Steve and the lovely cups of tea! ... the workshop atmosphere was relaxed which added to the whole experience - best way to spend a Saturday!! Thoroughly enjoyed myself and have spread the word to all who will listen... great course, great place, great people! :) :) :)
Thanks Steve for your time and expertise. Very happy with result.
Had a great workshop day with Steve on Saturday, very informative and helpful.
Steve is a great tutor and doesn't hold back on teaching his excellent techniques.
I learned a lot on the one day course.
We had a delicious and memorable meal at lunchtime in a nearby restaurant.
Saint Davids is a beautiful place to visit, and I can throughly reccomend the course and Saint Davids.
An excellent course which Steve taught exceptionally well, giving plenty of time to all the students and very generous with materials. We had a lovely lunch at a local pub with free range on the menu not restricted to the cheaper items. My wife and I came away with 2 60x30cm panels, three tea light panels and 8 20x20cm panels between us.
Had a wonderful day with a very skilled craftsman, Steve. Would recommend the course to anyone who wants to produce a unique piece of glass. Also the food was terrific midday.
What a wonderful day spent with Steve on his glass fusion class, very full on but so rewarding, delighted with the pieces I took home. Certainly intend to book another course later in the year. Thank you for your guidance and patience.
Really good day. Lots of valuable tips and practical hands on making. End result wasn't bad either. Thanks to Steve for endless patience.
I booked this course for a friend's Hen Do because another friend had enjoyed the course previously. We had a fabulous time with Steve and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The process was fascinating and we all loved creating our own individual masterpiece
This was my second workshop in St.Davids...once again a great experience, Steve has such enthusiasm for his craft and is always encouraging, even in times of panic and indecision-you couldn't ask for a nicer tutor.
A thoroughly fascinating, enjoyable and rewarding day. Steve introduced us to the materials and how they behave, then demonstrated the basic techniques that a beginner should try to master. Pre lunch we all concentrated on 20cm square pieces of glass to prepare for the main event of the afternoon working with 60cm x 30cm glass. Steve patiently helped all advance quickly and encouraged experimentation.
All five participants produced several very different pieces and all were delighted with the outcome when the kiln was opened on Sunday. I think that all of us intend to take part in another course next year.
If you love Pembrokeshire and love colour then a workshop with Steve Robinson is for you, even if you think you are not creative or artistic, Steve will guide you through to create a beautiful piece of work. The opening of the kiln after firing is always greeted with gasps of wonder. 'Did I make that?'
Steve is so very nice that he was pulled 5 ways to help the customers.
Sadly I lost out in this division of labour - not helped by a lady on my table who dominated time and space. Each and every sentence I had with Steve was interrupted and by mid afternoon I had been reduced to such a small workspace that I left early.
My advice would be to have a clear idea of your end product and make sure you get enough advice to complete it to you own satisfaction.
It may be worth having a male only class to avoid the decibel diplomacy women of a certain age seem to enjoy.
Results can be spectacular, even though you cannot judge the end product until the end. However, I'm disappointed in mine.
Had such a wonderful day with excellent company
Steve was a patient & inspiring instructor who had the ability to bring out the best in us all
A thoroughly enjoyable experience which I would love to repeat someday
I had an amazing day at the glass fusing workshop, with Steve Robinson and four lovely fellow learners. I cannot believe the results, and have definitely got the glass fusing bug!! I can't wait to try it again, but will go next time, armed with some definite ideas!! Even though my final panel doesn't look anything like the vague vision I had initially, I am so so pleased with it. Thanks to Steve for his unending patience and kindness.
The workshop on Saturday was made both enjoyable and instructive by Steve's patience and good humour throughout the day. I was surprised at how much we learned and improved during the day and thrilled at the quality and number of pieces of glass we brought home. Definitely one to be repeated in the future
What a wonderful experience! I am so proud of the work produced. A complete novice in the field of art, especially painting on glass, Steve was a fantastic tutor. He guided, supported and encouraged us all but also allowed us to be creative in our own way.
Thank you.
This really was a great day!, Steve was welcoming from the start and encouraging without being prescriptive. He is passionate about his craft and his enthusiasm is infectious, his approach was relaxed and made everyone in the group feel valued. The group size was small enough to allow plenty of individual attention and everyone came out with surprisingly good results.
What an amazing workshop - informative, inspirational, fun.
Steve is a great teacher giving help and advice but also the freedom to experiment. I also appreciated the small class size.
I came on this course as a complete craft novice with no idea what to expect and had a fantastic day in the large and spacious workshop. Steve was instructive and extremely patient with us all to the very end of the day, he was keen to help us create something we would be proud of by listening to each individual and it made such a difference being in a small group of 5. There was no limit on materials or glass.
It was a welcome break for lunch at the pub but we were all keen to get back to our designs after.
We returned the following day to see what we had all made and take our treasures home to show off to the family! Definitely to be recommended.
What an amazing day! I really enjoyed every moment especially seeing my friends working here as well for the first time. The excitement waiting to see the kiln opened on the sunday was magic. Steve is a brilliant glass maker, artist and designer. a true inspiration to anyone wishing to undertake this workshop. Even though this is the second full day workshop I have experienced it was just as exciting to do. He is so good at: encouraging with continuous support, clear and concise instruction & heaps of patience . Steve is incredibly generous with skills, knowledge and with all materials to enable you to produce your own unique 'works of glass art' Worth every penny.
A great day, very intensive but very rewarding. I'd love to do it again!
An inspiring day with Steve Robinson....a small group with and just the right balance of support and encouragement. Delighted with both my smaller practice piece and the large panel and excited to see the results when returning the following day for the kiln opening. It has prompted me to buy some enamels and start to experiment in my workshop!
Steve's glass fusion course was very relaxed but stimulating at the same time. It was both fun and very informative. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in art, glass, and using their creative powers.
WOW!!!! yet again....what an amazing day! I really enjoyed every moment... Steve is not only a stunning glass maker, artist and designer but an extremely patient tutor ... a true inspiration to anyone wishing to undertake this workshop. Even though this is the second full day workshop I have experienced it was just as exciting to do...... it's not only creative but encouraging with continous support, clear and concise instruction. Steve is incredibly generous with skills, knowledge and with all materials to enable you to produce your own unique 'works of glass art' ... truly magic!!!
Fab day that was very enjoyable. Lots of information and support whilst creating your own work. Lots of opportunities for one to one support and I came back with multiple pieces. I am just sad that I do not live close as I would be a very regular visitor. A great way o spend a special day and very much want to do it again. Keep running the days.
This was my second workshop as I enjoyed the first one so much. It is such a great creative experience in a small size group so that you have plenty of tutor Steves advice and attention.
Steve is great fun really knows his craft and is great at coaching you to get the best product and experience from the day.
The grand opening of the kiln on Sunday is a great experience where you see the stunning transformation of your work into fused glass. I am really pleased with my unique pieces of glass that now have pride of place in my home.
I would thoroughly recommend this course.
An extremely good day. Steve managed to get round to us all constantly, not easy when you are able to make up pieces so quickly. It is the first workshop I have ever been on (& I have been on quite a few, in varying art themes) where I actually made what I had in my minds eye.
So am very happy with all my pieces, especially the large one.
Would so recommend going on this workshop.
My mum and I came down all the way from Chester for this course I and can thoroughly say it was fantastic and so well worth the journey! It exceeded all of our expectations on not only on what we were able to make but in excellent teaching from Steve and great company through out the whole course, I would defiantly recomnd it to anyone who enjoys being creative!
I had a great experience on this one day course with Steve and five others.
I am not artistic, but with Steve's help and support I managed to produce a very good sunset picture looking westward from our caravan at St Justinnian.
In addition to the above I produced two smaller pictures and two tea light.
Steve is a very good communicator and can translate your thoughts to a piece of glass: his help and incouragemet is infectious.
This day with Steve Robinson Glass was a gift, worth every penny.
I attended the course as a last minute thing with a friend and I'm just so glad I did! Steve gives each and every one of the 'artists' his time, help and support although how he manages to keep so calm I'll never know! I came away with so many wonderful pieces but my main piece, I can honestly say, I am absolutely thrilled with. I think quite a few members of family will be having glass this Christmas! Can't wait to go again! Thanks Steve.
I’m a glass artist who wanted to extend the techniques available to me and this was an excellent introduction to glass enamelling. Steve covered health and safety and made suggestions which I will be implementing for my other work. Steve’s enthusiasm for both the enamelling and the teaching of us, with all our different levels of ability was incredible. His guidance on choices of colour, (which change when fired) and techniques of getting the enamel powers on to glass was invaluable. The venue is a spacious workshop with plenty of bench space and two large flat bed glass kilns. Steve made available a large range of enamels (well over 100) and explained the results that we could expect from the ones that were used. The large panel which I made now has pride of place over the fire in the living room. I’m now dreaming enamels!
This was a really enjoyable day's course with Steve offering amazing levels of help and guidance. I would recommend it to everyone.
It is a good idea to have something in mind, especially for the large piece you produce in the afternoon. In the morning you can do many smaller pieces, practicing the various techniques and try out the many and varied coloured enamels.
A break for lunch in the local pub gives you an opportunity to better get to know Steve and the other participants and take a well earned rest. The following day's grand kiln opening is not to be missed!
WOW!!!! what an amazing day! I really enjoyed every moment... Steve is not only a stunning glass maker, artist and designer but an extremely patient tutor ... a true inspiration to anyone wishing to undertake this workshop. The day was relaxed with encouraging support and clear concise instruction. Steve is incredibly generous with materials, I made beautiful pieces to take home and was excited to see the kiln opening the next day! The best Easter for a long while spent in the stunning setting of St Davids... thankyou so much... :) Clare 2015
A brilliant course with dedicated tuition from a gifted, caring artist. I was one of five on a one day course, and between the five of us we kept Steve very busy all day. Although busy, Steve had time to answer every query, however complicated or trivial, and not once was I (or any of the other participants) made to feel that our query was anything other than important to him. At the end of the day we all finished with some special pieces of glass art, and I for one will treasure mine and give them pride of place. I have now been inspired to continue with glass enamelling at home in addition to my usual stained glass panel hobby.
A startlingly enjoyable day - starting with no experience and being coached through first principles to an understanding of the medium and a sufficient sense of adventure to attempt that piece of artistry I've been pondering for years - which now hangs on our sitting room wall. Really welcoming and supportive, and a lot of fun had by all of us. I couldn't recommend this too highly.
Excellent! Steve is massively enthusiastic, patient and supportive. Thank you for a great day. I was glad that I had had an opportunity to plan ahead - (Watched Steve making my splashback) Came home full of ideas for next time! Enjoyed and appreciated the small group because this allowed effective personal tuition as well as having other people to bounce ideas off. The quality of materials was high and the finished products were really ego boosting.
Just finished a really fabulous time trying out glass as a new medium for me. With Steve's help it was amazing to see how eventually I finally achieved something that is especially me in glass.
The sun is shining through a piece of work in our window and it is making me feel very proud of myself. All possible because of Steve's patience and encouragement.
The friendship, food and companionship made this a most enjoyable and memorable experience.
Thank you.
The four hour drive down to St David's for the course did nothing to dent our anticipation. As owners of an unused kiln we have been itching to put it to good use.
The great thing is that with just five people per course we were given as much one to one help & direction as we could take in in one day. Prior to the course I bombarded Hannah with a range of questions regarding 'other materials' that we rather fancied adding into our creations-all these she answered patiently.
We were amazed at the high quality of detail we achieved-aided by the ever attentive Steve who gently steered us when required towards our goal of creating something that we would feel proud to hang on our wall.
Many thanks for a very enjoyable day!
A very enjoyable day, well worth the cost. We had a great demo and time to explore the materials and make samples before the excellent lunch. Afterwards we were able to make a larger piece and Steve was a helpful and patient advisor. He was generous with materials and flexible - although we were making a wall-hanging I was able to place mine on a mould and slump it. We went back the next day for the opening of the kiln and were able to take our finished work away..
I booked this course for my ten year old daughter, following an earlier short course which she had enjoyed immensely. I remained with her during the day as she had to be supervised more closely than the adults. Steve's instructional style is incredibly patient and he manages to provide help to all of the participants equally. He was careful to explain the use of enamels, how best to achieve the results that you wanted, and what factors might influence the end product. Where our choices would not have been appropriate, he nudged us in the best direction. In addition, he was very generous with the materials that we used. Achieving the right balance between instruction, safety and fun is very difficult with a diverse audience, but he did it easily.
My daughter had a really enjoyable day which we considered to be very good value for money.
I decided to do this course after visiting The Glass Studio in St Davids. My reasons for doing so were firstly how much I admired the work on display and wanting to know a little more on how the effects are achieved.
I had an idea what I wanted to try and produce before I arrived and met up with the other attendees. I think to have a idea already in your mind is quite important as it allows to to practice on the small samplers before diving in to produce the main piece.
What I ended up with I was very pleased with. It did represent what I had in mind but with the valued help given by Steve it turned out as something very unique. It is now on display in my living room at home and certainly attracts positive comments when viewed by outsiders; even the samplers are on display at the top of the stairs.
In conclusion my feelings are that it was a really brilliant day, new things learnt and nice to meet interesting people also with a willingness to learn and experiment.
I greatly recommend this course to any one thinking about doing it.
An excellent and enjoyable day. Steve was very patient and very helpful in ensuring we all came away very proud of our efforts.
Amazing day spent with Steve & 4 others. I thought that we would only be making 1 glass piece but it was great to practise & get the hang of using the enamels before lunch (2 small items completed) & all to have all afternoon for our 'show stopper' piece! Steve was so helpful & very patient answering all our questions & guiding us to achieve what we all individually wanted to do! Will definitely give it another go next year.
Really nice course, relaxed as well as informative. Definitely recommended!
A fabulous course really informative and lots of gorgeous glass to take home!
