As with stained glass, fused glass is colourful and accessible. It’s popularity as an affordable hobby has led to extensive development by the raw materials manufacturers and now the range of colours, textures, accessories and fusing equipment is almost endless….. and getting better all the time. Fusing glass is a much less regimented process than stained glass and in many ways is much like collage, offering plenty of scope for expression. It’s versatile as well – I’ve been making fused dichroic glass jewellery, wall-art and kiln-formed glass for years and it always seems popular with visitors to the workshop.
Glass fusing - half day taster session
This class is to introduce folks to the many glass colours and materials used in fusing glass. The project is to make a decorative hanging piece and we will provide a glass baseplate, as a canvass of sorts, and then using the various glass accessories you would then compose your designs on to the plate in preparation for firing in the kiln. Throughout the session there will be lots of information about the process and support given at all times. The firing will take place as soon as possible after the session and the piece can be mailed, collected or hand delivered depending on distance.
