About the Course
What will I learn?
• Cutting glass
• Designing a simple fused glass piece
• Assembling a fused glass piece for firing
• A variety of glass fusing techniques depending on your design
What can I make?
In a 1 day workshop we have a little more time to be a touch more ambitious with our designs. You may wish to create a microwave kiln jewellery set in the morning and a tea-light or light catcher in the afternoon. However, if you have a specific idea in mind let us know and we will advise if we can make it in the time allowed. The session are very flexible and we will try and cater for what you want to make, or offer suggestions if you feel there just too much choice!
For example you can choose from 2 of the following items to make on your workshop:
• 2 x 10cm square coasters
• 2 x small light catchers (approx. 10cm x 5cm)
• 1 curved tea-light catcher
• 1 Waved tea-light catcher
• 1 Small dish / bowl (approx. 15cm x 15cm)
• Christmas decorations
• Jewellery set
All the items that you make will be yours to keep. Once the item/s has been fired we will notify you it is ready. We can arrange postage of the item/s, or if it's more convenient, you can come and collect it. Most items are ready within 2 weeks, however this can often be sooner.
We have not given set dates for these courses as we can run them as and when required. We can do midweek, weekends, so we are very flexible on availability. Many of our customers book a 'crafty day-off work' with the added benefit of feeling they are enjoying it more because they are not at work or eating into their weekend time.
Jill and John are your tutors. They both hold industry recognised professional training qualifications. This means not only do they know their subject, but more importantly how to share it with others in a form that is easy to pick up and in a fun and enjoyable way.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
• Use of all tools and equipment in the glass studio
• All the materials required to complete your piece
• Up to 2 firings in the glass kiln (typically we will tack fuse or fully fuse your piece on one firing, then fire again if you wish to ‘slump’ the piece into a shape on a former)
• Hot and cold beverages, biscuits and often cake will be available throughout the day. Plus a light lunch
(we are a 5 star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)
Loved the whole day. Perfect workspace. Loved the open choice and able to make anything we wanted.
My mum and I cannot wait to go back and collect our pieces to see the final result.

I had a fantastic time during one of the courses. Jill helped me a lot to create what I wanted. I hope the result will be as nice as the time I spent there.

Jill and John are very lovely and helpful. I am not creative at all and was a bit stressed however they both make you feel calm and relaxed. I highly recommend. Also, thank you for the cake and a cup of tea xxx

Marta Surowska - - #26159
Response from Fired Glass:Hi Marta
It turns out I am resistant to learning, but Jill was marvellous. She is a patient teacher (I really tested this aspect of her) and a very kind person (I tested this too). It really is a peaceful studio. I ended up with more than I bargained for so although I originally thought that the workshop was on the expensive side (glass workshops are if you look around), in fact I was wrong. It was very, very good value. Glass is such a lovely medium. Lunch was included and the food was absolutely delicious - and they sent me the recipes. More than I bargained for again. I would definitely go again.
Jayne Towndrow - - #25904
Response from Fired Glass:Hi Jayne, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are thrilled you enjoyed your day and you felt it was good value for your money. We find it difficult to put down in our course description what you will be getting, you have voiced this very eloquently so thank you for that. We hope to see you again in the future. Regards John and Jill.
Attended one of Jill’s courses a while ago. I was worried as I am not very artistic, but Jill guided me through clearly and patiently what I needed to do. Made to feel very welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and looking forward to another in the near future.
Shaaron Chick - - #25287
Response from Fired Glass:Thank you Shaaron, so pleased you enjoyed the day. We hope to see you again soon.
Attended a fantastic workshop in March, where I learned new skills for making beautiful dichroic glass jewellery. Jill is a fantastic tutor; her workshop is a tardis of tools and materials and she spared none to help me design and create a beautiful pendant that I am constantly asked when I wear it: "where did you get that from?".
I was made instantly at home in Jill's beautiful studio; it's a lovely space to work in and you'll see plenty of examples of this talented lady's artwork.
The thing I liked most about the workshop was Jill's ability to facilitate and help me materialise the ideas I had in my head, using her detailed knowledge. I came away with not only a beautiful piece of art that I can wear and am proud of but also the feeling that a lot of knowledge was imparted and I felt I had really learned something by doing. And I must add, it's incredibly therapeutic to do an activity like this for a few hours.
I'm definitely booking in for another workshop (when they become available, as Jill is very popular!) Thanks, Jill and hope you'll be running more workshops soon!
Sabrina - - #24919
Response from Fired Glass:Hi Sabrina, thank you so much for your positive review and I'm pleased you are wearing your handmade jewellery with pride. We look forward to seeing you again in the future for more creativity. Kind regards
I had brilliant day with Jill Tisbury on her FiredGlass 1 day workshop.
Jill and John make you feel very relaxed and comfortable from the moment you arrive. Her studio is amazing and gives you an instant feeling of calm. Jill's knowledge and understanding of glass is incredible and her art skills are out of this world. Jill helps to inspire you and give you the confidence to create your own pieces of magic. I can't wait to see my work once it all fired. I've already cleared spaces in my sitting room to display it. Drinks were available all day with a lovely lunch and stunning dessert.
I highly recommend her course.
