Glass Fusing and Slumping for Beginners and Improvers
Contact course provider
About the Course
Our workshops are in Lytham St Annes on The Fylde Coast. They run from 10.00 – 16.00. We take no more than 8 students.
If none of these dates are suitable for you, you can contact us about a private group day for 6-8 people. If you have a smaller group we are happy to quote a price for you.
There are 2 tutors, so all students receive the attention they need. A beginner would typically learn how to score and break glass safely before cutting their own glass to use for learning 4 or 5 basic techniques of glass fusing. After a home-made lunch they would then go on to design and make two or three larger pieces from bowls, mirror frames, hangings, free-standing panels. Returning students will be given a directed piece in the morning as a refresher, be taught a technique new to them, and be guided through the design and making of their chosen pieces.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All tools, safety equipment, materials, firing of work. We also include a hearty home made lunch, cakes, home-made bread and refreshments all day.
We will make food to any dietary requirements a student may have. Our vegan pear and ginger muffins have become quite a hit!
I was an absolute beginner, the teachers were extremely patient and encouraged me to try and do things that I thought might be beyond my capabilities. I have made 7 items from a simple coaster to cutting petals and making a 'Poppy Bowl'. As the class was on 'Remembrance Sunday' I will always look at this and remember a really wonderful, but tiring day with other like minded friendly people.5

If you're uncertain, just book it. Not only will you meet some lovely people, but you'll also surprise yourself at what you can produce (with the expert help of Jean and Janice).

I have attended this course on a number of occasions and I love going back. Mainly for the friendly and knowledgeable instructors and the fresh bread and home-made chutneys!
Would highly recommend this class to anyone. You will be amazed at what you can achieve even on the first try. It's highly addictive and after the first go you'll be bursting with new ideas to try out. It's a really fun environment, made so by the hosts, in a lovely part of the world. Make a weekend of it :)

Fantastic day with 2 amazing, talented and patient teachers. As a complete beginner I can't believe how much you can learn and achieve in just a few hours. The range of materials and tools is excellent and I have to say that lunch (particularly the brownies) was to die for! Thank you both

Thoroughly enjoyed the day, can't believe how much we got through in such a short time. Janice and Jean are fabulous tutors, patient and so knowledgeable. They tailored their support to each student's needs and fostered individual creativity from the start.
Oh and I nearly forgot, the homemade lunch and cakes were were delicious.
I would thoroughly recommend this workshop.
Thank you Janice and Jean.

Have just spent a Fantastic day with Jean & Janice at their workshop. The group of people that attended were brilliant and made myself and the other two newbies feel very welcome. It's like sitting in a room that is a cross between Aladdin's cave and an alchemists lab...you want to try everything but don't know the formula !! The ladies were great at explaining the basics (including the very important health and safety) and soon had us working on our first piece. I am still chanting the mantra of 'tin sandwich' and keeping my fingers crossed that the pieces I worked on turn out ok ! After a delicious lunch of homemade soups and breads followed by cake , we carried on with making , in my case a bowl ( other people worked on different shapes) All too soon it was time to finish. I can't wait to see how my first attempts turn out. O.k. I hold my hand up , I am hooked , I have booked to go again. I can't call myself a glass fusionista yet but who knows !!!!!

Thank you Jean and Janette both so much for a fantastic informative fun day. I've learnt so much today my head hurts and can't wait to see the outcome of my efforts and just hope I got my 'tin sandwiches' right! Jean and Janette were brill and patient taking us newbies through the basics with a series of different techniques for us try with flexibility for us to adapt. By the end of the session we were flying solo creating master pieces (I hope) with plenty of guidance and advise on hand when required. It was amazing how much material there was available for us to use and experiment with, in such a friendly and relaxed environment. Also worth mentioning was the super lunch with homemade soups, bread and cakes not to mention fresh coffee. Can't wait to return for another session, so many ideas to try. Thank you.

Thank you both for a fantastic day, I didn't know what to expect except that I'm not very arty so thought I'd not achieve very much. You put us all at ease right from the start, the instruction was easy to follow and the day was well organised but also made flexible to suit us. I came home feeling very pleased with myself. The lunch was delightful. I will be recommending this to friends.

Been going to the classes for over two years now, every time there is something new to learn and lovely people to meet. Janice and Jean are really nice ladies and excellent tutors, love their food and their enthusiasm never wanes, even when we test their patience!! Well worth trying, you'll be surprised at what you can make.

Can't recommend this course and the lovely ladies that run it. I have been taking their courses for over 2 years and despite now having my own kiln, I still attend their courses.
I love that I get to meet up with other "regulars" as well as making new friends. At every course we learn new tools and techniques, have a fabulous lunch and still have lots of time to make our own designs.
The venue is perfect, the tools and safety equipment all provided and in excellent condition. They have every possible colour of glass powders, hundreds of stencils to chose from and loads of ideas to help you produce some great end products. I have personally made: coasters, large and small plates, table top, light shade, candle holders, spoon rest, wall hangings, decorative waves and loads more.
Tried others courses but this is the best one by far!

Lovely people providing a warm welcome. They provide lots of materials for you to choose from and so you are really limited only by your imgaination.
Start of with how to safely cut glass, and moves to different methods to bring life to your work.
A vegitarian lunch is provided which was truly delicious.
The course is tailoured to suit those attending so whether your a beginner or more advanced between the two tutors you have your artistic and techincal skills improved.

came on the course with my mum who had been for a second time and it was brilliant. Everyone so friendly and helpful and I found it all really interesting. Great way to spend a creative day - I would definately go back and cant wait to see the finished pieces!

My sister and I attended on 15th February 2015, for a beginners day. We were amazed by how much we got to do during the day. The techniques shown to us were fascinating and taught in such a way that even us complete novices found it easy to follow. We can't wait to see our work once it has been in the kiln. Definitely recommend this day to everyone. My sister and I want to book onto another now!

I have been going to these classes for nearly 18 months. I have never considered that I was creative but I have managed to produce some extremely imaginative pieces loved by many friends and family, in fact some say 'you never made that!'
If you would like to try something different, go and give it a go, you may surprise yourself. Oh, and the food is WONDERFUL
Thank you ladies xx
