About the Course
Hello and welcome to smARTsy! I offer glass fusing sessions from my cosy workshop in Ratby, located between Groby and Kirby Muxloe, and only about 20 minutes from Loughborough, Leicester, & Melton.
With spaces limited to 8 people on these day events, you will have plenty of support as you learn about this beautiful art form.
After a brief introduction you will learn about glass and its many forms though the handling of sample pieces fused by myself. You will learn to how to recognise and use a huge array of glass forms, all available in different colours and find out about stringers, frit, sheet, confetti, millifiori, dichroic, and iridescent glass! Learn the difference between tac and full fusing and how each is achieved; decide whether you want to go for slumping or not! I will give you a demonstration about cutting techniques and deliver a safety talk. When ready, you will decide how to divide up your sheet of glass and then the fun will really start! Take your time faffing about with your designs until you're ready to glue.
At the end of the session we'll leave your work ready to be fired. Your work will be fused and gently cooled, ready for collection after a few days or posting on. I clean up the glass, drill and add wire for hanging, attach coaster bumpons etc. Scottish hardwood stands are available to purchase for display.
These one day workshops are 'stand alone' and are equally suited to beginners and more experienced customers. Warning: it's rather addictive!

I started with a two hour evening workshop and enjoyed it so much I booked straight away for a day - as others have said, it's a wonderful setting for the workshop and Ali is a great teacher. Totally calm and absorbing and the results at the end are just beautiful. Definitely an addiction worth having!

Ali is a great teacher and has so much patience in how she explains how to cut and select the various bits of glass you can use to create your own individual art pieces. The time goes so quickly and is such good fun. Highly recommended and great value.

Absolutely Brilliant! Loved it so much I booked again before I left. Beautiful surroundings, great tutorial and amazing results! You don't need any skill to create something to be proud of. Thoroughly recommend it!!!
