A draped candle holder

‘Ship ahoy’! These strips of coloured glass have been layered to create a seascape with little boat bobbing about on the waves.

Sun catchers to hang up at windows

Small fused glass brooch created using ‘glassline’ paint.

Coloured pieces of sheet glass, stringers, dichroic & frit have been fused together to create the body of this needle felted butterfly.

Beads have been added to the stem of these sheet & dichroic fused glass earings.

Beautiful slithers of dichroic glass catch the light beautifully on these stunning pendants.

Interesting reactions of coloured glass once in the kiln and taken to very high temperatures.

This delicate fairy was created using a technique known as kiln carving.

Candle holder with ‘glass powder’ flowers ( a small bag of 5 hand made & pre-fired flowers can be purchased on the day. Also frit, stringers and ‘glassline’ pens have been added.

Description

Come and join us for a day of creativity in the inspiring surroundings of Bonds at Dodwell. You will use a range of techniques to create several different fused glass items including pendants & earrings, candle holders, coasters, sun catchers and decorations. This workshop is suitable for beginners and no prior experience is necessary. You will be guided on how to safely cut and layer glass. You will then have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of techniques including using coarse and fine frit, stringers & ribbons and experiment with encasing foils, mica and oxide powders between layers of glass. You could also create delicately subtle designs using a technique called kiln carving or use special ‘bubble’ paints to create a beautiful visual textured effect. Items will be fired in the kiln within 14 days ( some items require at least two firings and each firing takes 12 hours) up to 4 pieces of jewellery findings will be added or holes drilled into sun catchers/ decorations and ribbons will then be added and your fused glass will be packaged and either dropped off back to the venue or posted to you for £3.75 P&P With over 22 years teaching experience you will be guided/supported by Helen whilst you create you’re unique glass pieces. Please avoid wearing open-toed footwear in the interest of health and safety. You will be provided with an apron, safety goggles and mask to wear when handling /cutting the glass. Each student will have their own pack of equipment/materials - thus removing the need to share tools etc. The workspace is up a flight of stairs ( approx 10 steps).

All tuition, materials, use of tools, up to three firings and all items will be returned to the venue within 14 days (if you are unable to return to the venue Helen can packaged your glass and post it to you for £3.75)There is an in-house cafe where you can purchase refreshments and a delicious meal ( we take a break at 12.00pm for a maximum of one hour)

"Book this course!! Helen is amazing, with endless patience and knowledge Helen supports everyone individually to make the best use of the huge selection of glass materials she provides. The day is well organised with a lovely atmosphere. After the course Helen takes the pieces you have made to her studio where she spends time carefully firing them and then either mounting or drilling to create a beautiful finish. Updates are given as your pieces move through the workshop processes and very quickly your glass is available for collection at the course venue or sent to you in the post. My wife and I have attended many very good workshops but Helen’s was outstanding!"
