"Many of us had already done the beginners' pouring class a month before and had come back to finish their item. I attended straight after the beginners' course in the am, so I finished a pre-made piece. I liked the emphasis on safety and the correct tools to ensure the work space remains safe to breathe in. Richard explained how to achieve a polished finish, but we practiced a smooth finish as this was more practical for daily use of the items we made."

"The studio is amazing! Very big with a lot of tools and a little sitting are for tea. If you're on the cold side it can get a bit chilly , but while working I was fine. Helen was great, happy to help and answer any questions and was showing us a lot of ways to get things done. It's hard work, but very immersive, I would definitely do it again. "

"Absolutely brilliant! I did the 2 day upcyling pallet course and had Scott all to myself on the first day! Both Scott and Sue are great and the homemade cake and biscuits were a fab bonus! I would have liked to have taken some notes to refer to in the future, so maybe some printed handouts on hints and tips and the different tools would be really helpful? I would throughly recommend any course with Black Paw . Can't wait to book up again!"

The course that I went on yesterday and today was absolutely brilliant. Excellent informative teaching as usual and you have a great depth of knowledge and experience in both fused glass and stained glass. "This course was a complete escape from everything! The only sounds to be heard apart from birdsong and the occasional lowing of the nearby cows was the tap tap tapping of the six of us - totally engrossed in our blocks of stone! Ben was friendly, welcoming and encouraging as well as being an excellent and thorough teacher. Each of us received his patient guidance and undivided attention when we needed it. Despite us all being strangers with very different visions of what we would make, I felt very comfortable to try the different tools and techniques out, as he created such a lovely relaxed and supportive atmosphere. I am not artistic and I am over the moon with my sleeping cat! Thank you so much, Ben! - I’m keen to come back to do my Labradoodle! "

"An outstanding and inspirational course. Alan Micklethwaite, our instructor, is a master stone carver and a top level teacher. After a friendly welcome and introduction from Alan and Tracey, we discussed design options and selected from a range of stone options (sources and characteristics very well presented). Alan's teaching style was one of explaining and demonstrating a technique followed by letting us get on with putting it into practice, adding further tips whenever needed. As the work progressed, he'd introduce the next skill to be learned and again step back to let us gain confidence in it while advancing the carving. A great deal of other information was shared through conversation during the day. I have continued refining the carving back at home and it's looking good. I now find myself paying close attention to carvings in stone on buildings with a new awareness of the skill and time required to make them. This was a very enjoyable day and I thoroughly recommend it. "

"I had a wonderful afternoon yesterday at Loucinda's Metal Shed. A highly talented silversmith, she also makes a brilliant tutor. She only takes four people at a time so she can attend to all our needs. I was quite nervous because I can be cack-handed and clumsy! Loucinda put me at ease and calmly showed us each stage of creating a pendant. I'd love to be able to include an image of the final product because I'm very proud of it! "
