Description

The course is for three days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tutor for the class is professional wood carver Sebastian Burchart who has been doing wood carving and sculpture since 2014. The class is suitable for beginners or advanced. Class starts with introduction to tools and how to properly and safely use them. After that, beginners will do a little practice and choose the project for carving. If you've got your own project please bring photos of it. In this course you get a practicing blank and a blank for your project, plus coffee, tea and biscuits. Please bring your lunch with you.

"I came on this course as a complete beginner, and left with most of a barn owl! Sebastian is a kind, gentle, patient tutor and clearly enjoys passing on his immense skills. Pupils have the freedom to choose what they would like to carve and Sebastian then makes it possible. The course started with a lesson on the various tools and how to use them safely, and then concentrated on how to turn a chunk of wood into something beautiful. Once I had got over my initial nervousness I found myself getting totally engrossed, with occasional interruptions by Sebastian to show me how to improve my work. I strongly recommend this course both for complete beginners like myself, or for people wanting to improve their wood carving skills. "

"This is a wonderful three-day wood carving experience. Sebastian is an extremely helpful, highly knowledgeable and experienced tutor, with an in-depth knowledge of carving techniques and materials. His teaching style is relaxed, patient, and very supportive, which makes learning pleasurable and accessible to all skill levels, from complete beginners to those looking to improve. The class is very hands-on with a practical approach and plenty of guidance. Sebastian strikes a good balance between providing instruction and allowing students the freedom to explore their own ideas and create unique pieces. This course was very enjoyable, rewarding, and inspiring, creating a friendly atmosphere among all the students. I came away from this experience feeling more confident and knowledgeable about my new carving skills, plus surprise and pride at what I was able to achieve by the end of the course."

"The three day wood carving course was excellent, I’d recommend it to anyone with any level of skill or complete beginners. Sebastian is a very friendly knowledgeable tutor who makes it an easy relaxed environment to learn in or improve existing skills. The location is wonderful too, the farm owner Dordie is so warm and welcoming and cooks the most delicious, plentiful lunches and gorgeous freshly baked cakes in the afternoon. Thanks for a very rewarding, enjoyable three days."

"I have attended several woodcarving courses with seb. He is an extremely talented and skilled woodcarver who teaches in a clear and supportive manner enabling you to learn and develop the appropriate skills to make your own masterpiece. I would recommend anyone who wants to try this craft to book a course with seb as you will not find a better teacher and the courses are great value for money as everything is included. "

"This three day course was excellent, the location of the farm was 10 minutes away and the set up was not only perfect but welcoming. I was made to feel at home and nothing was to much trouble. The food was out standing and plentiful as was the conversation around the dinner table. Sebastian was patient and relaxed in his teaching which enabled me too asked questions, he was every knowledgeable and imparted a huge amount of information and demonstrated technical skills which allowed me to develop new techniques in carving. Brilliant course. "

"Just finished the 3 day carving course at Middleton Farm with Sebastian and the ever positive and tireless host of Farm. What a fantastic host and place to hold the course. I can honestly say it has been the best course I have had the pleasure to attend. The facilities, the five star food has been faultless equally so for Sebastian's tutoring/instructions on the intricacies of carving. His relaxed professional attitude and ability to pass on his skills enabled me to produce work, (as a first timer) which was rewarding and pleasantly surprised me. "Seb was a good tutor and in my view got the balance right between allowing me to get on with carving and being available to offer advice/guidance and encouragement when needed. He has a nice easy manner and I appreciated his hospitality by being regularly offered drinks and biscuits. He clearly knows his craft well and I came away inspired to do more carving in the future. I recommend anyone who's thinking of trying woodcarving or developing their skills to go on one of his courses."
