Had a wonderful day basket weaving, met Johnny & Becky, who made the group feel welcome. Provided tuition and guidance throughout the day. Plus a wonderful lunch and homemade lemon cake. Thank you for your patience and guidance. Loved the music in the workshop… great background tunes from the ’60s and '70s. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable day. And we take home the basket.
A wonderful day in a beautiful spot, Becky and John were great teachers, helpful and patient, We were looked after well and treated to a fantastic lunch. Thank you
We had the nicest day, learning to weave baskets with Johnny and his family. The workshop is charmingly rustic and cosy and hot drinks are brought to your workbench whenever required. We were both chuffed to bits with the beautiful baskets we made under Johnny and Becky's informal, yet informative tuition. Delicious lunch was provided, fresh, by a friendly local supplier. All in all a lovely, relaxing day. Highly recommended ❤️
What a brilliant way to spend a day! Jonny and Becky (&Leo) were brilliant. They were so skilled and patient and their warm hospitality in their home was wonderful. I felt supported in my learning and was really really pleased with the basket I made. Everyone at home was amazed it was my work!!
HIGHLY recommend. Thank you to Jonny and Becky.

The course is a great addition to any ‘bucket list’.
What an excellent day, from the tea and homemade flapjack on arrival, right up to the end of the day. Jon and Becky were friendly and attentive teachers who helped us get the most out of the day. The whole day flew by and I am thrilled with the basket that I made. I would be more than happy to join them for another day in the future and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending their course to anyone. Thank you so much, very much worth the journey from Leighton Buzzard!
Very enjoyable day learning how to work with willow. Jon and Becky were very friendly and helpful, patiently correcting my mistakes! Had a very tasty lunch and Becky's lovely home-made cake. Money well spent.
Brilliant one day course. We were taught different techniques and how the willow is grown and the preparation process before it can be used to weave. Becky and John are very helpful and patient tutors and Becky bakes the best cake. Well worth the money for a fun and productive day, I bought home a lovely good-sized basket that I made with some help.
A fantastic course. John and Becky were very helpful and friendly, met some amazing people and had a great lunch. What more could anyone want! A brilliant day out.
Had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Was most certainly more than expected. The dedication to creating a wonderful start to Weaving was immense. The hospitality and knowledge of both of you was amazing.
My only reservation is the time it took me to travel to your location. Nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Jonny and Becky gave expect advice and were very attentive and supportive during the day. They were very friendly and warm hosts. We would highly recommend this course. Great day out.

Response from Jon the basket:Thank you both. Your baskets were amazing and it was a pleasure to meet you.
A great day. The support from John and Becky was amazing, and the class is relaxed and friendly. We came away with a beautiful basket each which is so strong and well made (if I do say so myself) that it will last a lifetime. I’d happily do this class again and again.
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you Claire
Jon and Becky are really great teachers and we came away at the end of the day with lovely looking baskets, plenty of tea and coffees and good tunes playing on the stereo as well. A great day!
Response from Jon the basket:Thanks Luke
What a fab day... Jon and Becky have endless patience... It's hard work and a full-on day. but from the offset, Jon made you feel confident, that you were going to accomplish making your basket.
Very relaxed atmosphere, good banter. Jon chatted throughout the day telling us about basket making in general, as we worked, which was more interesting than being given a chapter and verse hour which generally flies over your head.
One to one help, when you needed it, Becky and Jon explained what to do simply, and we were allowed to go at our own pace. Becky's flapjacks and cake were delicious...
Make sure you book the lunch or you will definitely miss out on a treat.
I really recommend this course as an introduction to basket making, you'll come away with a super basket to be proud of.
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you Debbie, we both really enjoyed meeting you and your basket was beautifully woven.
I really wanted to 'have a go' at making a willow basket and this day was perfect! I can't believe I made such a lovely basket as I had never attempted anything like this before. I really love my basket, especially the 'feel' of the willow and the gorgeous colours.
Jon and Becky were such easy company, and so expert they made everything seem straightforward. I was worried I wouldn't be able to follow the instruction but Jon and Becky were simply wonderful!
Becky's cake and flapjack were a real treat too, thank you Becky!
Beautiful location, and a terrific day!
Thank you both so much :)
Response from Jon the basket:That's lovely to hear Liz.
I had a great day basket weaving with Jon and Becky. Jon was really welcoming and the studio was well equipped with everything we needed. Every stage of the weaving was explained and demonstrated well and Jon and Becky were on hand to support as much as I needed.
It was a lovely size group and we enjoyed a beautiful lunch outside as well as some lovely home made cake - thank you Becky!
A wonderful day which I can’t recommend enough, I’ll be using my basket regularly! Thank you
Really enjoyable day. Excellent preparation and the pace meant we had a beautiful finished basket at the end. Jon and Becky were great tutors and very helpful. Great lunch and lovely cake made by Becky. I would thoroughly recommend.
Response from Jon the basket:Hi Ros and Paul
Throughly enjoyed the basket making, and was surprised by the size of the basket we made! Jon and Becky were very good teachers and gave 1-2-1 tuition when needed. A great day out and lunch was fab!
I’m so proud of the basket I made on Jonny’s course. The willow used is a beautiful mix of greens, reds and browns. In a relaxed but focused atmosphere, Jonny and Becky took us through the stages of basket making and the different weaves involved. With clear direction, demonstration and ample support when needed leading to a very successful outcome. The studio is bright and spacious and we were welcomed and kept supplied with ample drinks and home-made cakes. A really satisfying day.

Had a wonderful day. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Jonny and Becky were so patient and good teachers. I will now always appreciate the work that goes into the making of baskets. Cannot believe that I actually came away with a decent size basket that I had made with their help and guidance, it has pride of place in my home. Also had lovely lunch too. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants a good day out in good company and have something to show for it at the end.
Great day - highly recommend
A well planned course Johnny and Becky were attentive to all in the class and our reward was taking home our self made basket.
I would like to learn more about the willow industry maybe on further courses that you do
What a fantastic day with the perfect hosts. Fantastic instruction from years of basketry experience. From start to finish the art of basket making is made clear and all the methods we used were expertly demonstated, often with one to one tuition ensuring that all who attend meet their objectives and leave at the end of the day with a quality basket. 100% highly recommended. Got on a course....you'll love it.
Jon and Becky were fab and it was a smashing day! Lovely little studio setting and the pair couldn't do enough for us.
If you get the choice of lunch as well definitely do it cos it was absolutely delicious.
Brilliant day, so friendly and helpful. Ive never made one before, i now appreciate how much work goes into making one. Lovely way of meeting new people. Lovely lunch. And plenty of tea and cake throughout the day. Thank you both.
As a total beginner this was a fantastic intro to basket making and I'm really impressed with the finished basket. The steps to making it were enjoyable and varied, I learnt so much in just one day. Jonny and Becky were relaxed and supportive throughout, we had all the tools we needed and pre-selected willows to hand, and there was just the right balance of making and enjoying a superb lunch and cake. I thoroughly recommend it!
This course was very enjoyable and I would highly recommend it. It is based in a stunning location and Jonny and Becky are fabulous hosts. They are skilled, knowledgeable and patient tutors enabling everyone to succeed in making a basket to be proud of. Lunch was delicious, as was the chocolate cake! Many thanks Jonny and Becky for a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Excellent tuition and guidance from Becky and Jonny. A thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying day.
Thank you so much Becky and Jonny.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and I am delighted with my oval basket.
In addition - I would very much like to acknowledge Becky's and Jonny's kindness and generosity.
Rather than a workshop attendee - I really felt more like a guest.
Since the workshop - I think I have managed to refer to my basket making in every conversation I've had.....
Great People - Great Workshop - Great Location - Great Lunch - Great Cake - Great Basket Xx
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you so much Susan.
Jonny and Becky were very friendly, welcoming and great teachers of a very old skillset. They took us through the process of making a basket with ease and expertise. I would definitely recommend this course run by both experienced teachers of a lovely craft.
I am very proud of my end result!
A great course, fun to learn and a product at the end. Thoroughly enjoyed it
This course was a lot of fun and I now have a lovely (and pretty big) willow basket! Jonny was very welcoming and kept us hydrated with lots of Tea! Lunch was delicous. Becky joined us after lunch to lend a hand with the tricker bits of the baskets. Overall, a wonderful way to spend the day with great company, great teachers and a hand made basket to take home at the end of it.
This was a surprise birthday gift for my husband, we had a great day and made two baskets. The course was clear and informative, having support when needed and allowing independence to practice skills. Jonny and Becky made everyone very welcome, the cakes and lunch were lovely :) The views from the workshop and conservatory were great, a beautiful location.
I hope to return!
This was a really fun beginners course, that left you with something practical at the end. It was a joy just to be out in the countryside, as the course is located in the beautiful Malvern. There was a lot of information with regards to willow, what to get, from where and when to get it. Definitely something to do with the people in your 'bubble'.
A fantastic experience in a well equipped, spacious workshop, set up efficiently with Covid in mind. John and Becky shared their knowledge effectively and with patience and humour. I was thrilled with the quality of my first attempt at basket weaving and would certainly recommend the course to others.
It was a real pleasure to spend the day with both Jonny and Becky in their lovely workshop and home. The instruction was perfect- socially distanced and masks as appropriate. They have taken Covid restrictions seriously yet allowed us to have a relaxed and enjoyable day.
The basket I produced is better than I dared hope for- thanks for the excellent instruction and non-invasive supervision. Both Jonny and Becky gave expert instruction and shared advice readily so we all achieved baskets to be proud of. I’d recommend this course wholeheartedly. I’m definitely going to have another go at home- thanks to Jonny and Becky for the inspiration.
Excellent day of quality tuition. Jon and Becky were helpful and informative and very, very patient.
I was extremely happy with my completed basket.
The chocolate cake and flapjack were tasty too.
I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to try basket making.
Great tuition, delivered at a pace you can follow.
Very relaxing day and thrilled to produce a really beautiful basket.
Highly recommend John and Becky.
Truly lovely day, great setting, excellent teaching, really friendly relaxed atmosphere and delighted with my basket.
Response from Jon the basket:That is fantastic Susanne, it was lovely to meet you.
Spent a wonderful day with Jonny and Becky in their lovely workshop. It was informative, challenging and hard work and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I attempt another course!
Response from Jon the basket:Brilliant. We would love to have you back Denise
What a treat during these dull and sometimes depressing Covid times. To go to a beautiful spot in the countryside and make a fantastic basket with good company in a covid safe space was a real joy. Jonny is a great teacher and the materials we used were really high quality which meant I ended up with a much better quality basket than I was expecting on a first go! I thoroughly recommend the course and would love to go again - you can never have enough baskets!
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you Belinda.
A very enjoyable day - good tuition, good company and good food - thank you!
I was lucky enough to share the day with a friendly bunch of mixed abilities. In spite of that we all finished the day with a very nice looking basket (admittedly most more professional than my wonky offering). This was due, in no small part, to the patience and teaching of Jon (and his lovely assistant.... )
Lunch was as good as I've had in a very long time - fresh and tasty!!
I'd go again to a course run by Jon 😊
Jon was very inspiring and friendly, the studio is very welcoming and learnt a lot in one day. Love my basket and a great lunch too. Thankyou so much to both Jon and Rebecca
Really friendly and knowledgeable teacher. Food was amazing, and a lovely learning environment. Fantastic course with like minded people.
I really enjoyed the course and the excellent tuition you provided. Making a basket has been a long held ambition of mine. Thank you for helping me to achieve this.
We spent an extremely happy and productive day with Jon at The Granary with our Baskets for Beginners course. Warmly greeted with tea and coffee we felt at home immediately and after an introduction to our tools, techniques and objectives we wasted no time at all getting stuck in. With a class size no more than 8 Jon was able to provide constant one-to-one tuition and amend any snags. My 81 year old mum joined us and although her hands are not quite as Strong and supple as they used to be it was no trouble at all for Jon or Beki to lend a helping hand and friendly encouragement.
Lunch was a masterclass in itself! A plated meal around the large kitchen table with the most delicious array of fresh, variably herby dishes like couscous with pomegranate, jewel tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and slaw accompanied by a choice of warm savoury tarts (sweet potato tart for the vegan). All homemade.
By the end of the day we had all produced baskets to be proud of and take home.
Will definitely be back!
Thank you so much for a great day, I really enjoyed it all. I was a total beginner but came away with a lovely basket.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, and Jonny was a patient and knowledgeable teacher.
It was a bonus to be served such a sociable and delicious lunch.
Thank you very much for an absorbing and memorable day.
We have been on a number of workshops over the years covering a range of crafts, but I have to say Jonny's enthusiasm, skill and kind humour made it a very special day. At no point did we feel rushed so had a most enjoyable experience. Lunch as others have commented was perfect and the whole day was really good from arrival until we departed with our lovely sturdy baskets. We can unreservedly recommend.
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you Bruce, it's great to hear what you thought of the day and I'm so glad you liked it. See you both again for another basket one day hopefully? Best wishes
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Jon was a very good, patient teacher. Great food and company and I came away with a lovely basket to remind me of the day.
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you Liz, I am glad you enjoyed the day.
John and Becky good ,patient teachers, let us all stay til we had finished our baskets which took some of us longer than planned, delicious food ,great day, thanks
I treated myself to this course as a birthday present - what a great way to spend my birthday money. The course was so well organised, and Johnny's experience of running workshops and knowledge of willow weaving and basket making was inspiring. A passion for keeping traditional crafting techniques alive was clear.
Spending a day with Johnny and his lovely wife, Becky, was like being in a warm family. I love their house and gardens. They manage to create a home that is full of lots of interesting things. I have a feeling that they both work really hard and love order and care, making the day a really relaxed mini-retreat. The lunch was a super treat, made by my friend Josephine, who used to own Josephine's Tarts in Malvern. I used to go there every Friday for a delicious tart and a chat, so it was great to enjoy her food again.
And, of course, the basket is the prize. I am sure it will have many functions, but toys for the new grandson comes to mind.
Definitely would recommend this in case you were wondering whether to go.
Response from Jon the basket:Thanks Annie, it's been uplifting to meet so many like minded people who are interested in willow baskets.
Jon is an excellent teacher bringing a fun and an engaging approach to teaching basket weaving. The location and workshop space is perfect. Really enjoyed all aspects of the day including Becky's homemade cakes. A lovely way to spend a Sunday and learn a brilliant new skill. Thanks Jon and Becky for your warm welcome.
Response from Jon the basket:Thank you for coming to make a basket Cleo. I am so pleased you enjoyed the day.
A really good day in a relaxed atmosphere with great tuition and help from Jon to make the basket.
Lots of steps and different techniques to learn and use, and hopefully remember next time I want to make one on my own!
The home made lunch provided was really good also and not to be missed.
I would definitely go back again to learn how to make various other items that I see on display while there.
Response from Jon the basket:It was great to meet you John and your basket was quite amazing.
A splendid day it was, a relaxed atmosphere, comfortable and lovely space with clear instructions from Jon.
We created the base for our baskets in the morning (with a tea and delicious cake break too!).
A really delicious lunch was provided in Jon and Beckys kitchen and then back to the workshop space to finish our baskets. I have been twice, the 1st basket is a beautiful thing with a handle for bringing in fire logs and the second a specialised one for one of my performance bikes.
I highly recomend the whole day, great instruction, friendly group, great space, lovely lunch and a treasure to keep for ever! 🧡
Jonny was a good teacher, lunch & company was great. Enjoyed the workshop very much & I would do one again. Wonderful to come home with a shopping basket of such beautiful colours, that I've made myself from willow rods & that will last for years to come.
I received this day as a gift and didn’t know what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and came away with a beautiful basket made by own hand which was a real bonus. Basket weaving is not as easy as it may look but Jonny is a very good teacher. I have to also mention that the lunch was outstanding, enhanced by the fact that someone else on the course had brought a bottle of vino or two so all in all, great course, fantastic lunch, good company with lots of laughs - I would definitely recommend it!!!
Very good day. John and Becky were very patient and helpful.
