A very enjoyable day - good tuition, good company and good food - thank you!
I was lucky enough to share the day with a friendly bunch of mixed abilities. In spite of that we all finished the day with a very nice looking basket (admittedly most more professional than my wonky offering). This was due, in no small part, to the patience and teaching of Jon (and his lovely assistant.... )
Lunch was as good as I've had in a very long time - fresh and tasty!!
I'd go again to a course run by Jon 😊
We spent an extremely happy and productive day with Jon at The Granary with our Baskets for Beginners course. Warmly greeted with tea and coffee we felt at home immediately and after an introduction to our tools, techniques and objectives we wasted no time at all getting stuck in. With a class size no more than 8 Jon was able to provide constant one-to-one tuition and amend any snags. My 81 year old mum joined us and although her hands are not quite as Strong and supple as they used to be it was no trouble at all for Jon or Beki to lend a helping hand and friendly encouragement.
Lunch was a masterclass in itself! A plated meal around the large kitchen table with the most delicious array of fresh, variably herby dishes like couscous with pomegranate, jewel tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and slaw accompanied by a choice of warm savoury tarts (sweet potato tart for the vegan). All homemade.
By the end of the day we had all produced baskets to be proud of and take home.
Will definitely be back!
Thank you so much for a great day, I really enjoyed it all. I was a total beginner but came away with a lovely basket.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, and Jonny was a patient and knowledgeable teacher.
It was a bonus to be served such a sociable and delicious lunch.
Thank you very much for an absorbing and memorable day.
We have been on a number of workshops over the years covering a range of crafts, but I have to say Jonny's enthusiasm, skill and kind humour made it a very special day. At no point did we feel rushed so had a most enjoyable experience. Lunch as others have commented was perfect and the whole day was really good from arrival until we departed with our lovely sturdy baskets. We can unreservedly recommend.
Jon the basket:
Thank you Bruce, it's great to hear what you thought of the day and I'm so glad you liked it. See you both again for another basket one day hopefully? Best wishes
I treated myself to this course as a birthday present - what a great way to spend my birthday money. The course was so well organised, and Johnny's experience of running workshops and knowledge of willow weaving and basket making was inspiring. A passion for keeping traditional crafting techniques alive was clear.
Spending a day with Johnny and his lovely wife, Becky, was like being in a warm family. I love their house and gardens. They manage to create a home that is full of lots of interesting things. I have a feeling that they both work really hard and love order and care, making the day a really relaxed mini-retreat. The lunch was a super treat, made by my friend Josephine, who used to own Josephine's Tarts in Malvern. I used to go there every Friday for a delicious tart and a chat, so it was great to enjoy her food again.
And, of course, the basket is the prize. I am sure it will have many functions, but toys for the new grandson comes to mind.
Definitely would recommend this in case you were wondering whether to go.
Jon is an excellent teacher bringing a fun and an engaging approach to teaching basket weaving. The location and workshop space is perfect. Really enjoyed all aspects of the day including Becky's homemade cakes. A lovely way to spend a Sunday and learn a brilliant new skill. Thanks Jon and Becky for your warm welcome.
Jon the basket:
Thank you for coming to make a basket Cleo. I am so pleased you enjoyed the day.
A splendid day it was, a relaxed atmosphere, comfortable and lovely space with clear instructions from Jon.
We created the base for our baskets in the morning (with a tea and delicious cake break too!).
A really delicious lunch was provided in Jon and Beckys kitchen and then back to the workshop space to finish our baskets. I have been twice, the 1st basket is a beautiful thing with a handle for bringing in fire logs and the second a specialised one for one of my performance bikes.
I highly recomend the whole day, great instruction, friendly group, great space, lovely lunch and a treasure to keep for ever! 🧡
Jonny was a good teacher, lunch & company was great. Enjoyed the workshop very much & I would do one again. Wonderful to come home with a shopping basket of such beautiful colours, that I've made myself from willow rods & that will last for years to come.
I received this day as a gift and didn’t know what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and came away with a beautiful basket made by own hand which was a real bonus. Basket weaving is not as easy as it may look but Jonny is a very good teacher. I have to also mention that the lunch was outstanding, enhanced by the fact that someone else on the course had brought a bottle of vino or two so all in all, great course, fantastic lunch, good company with lots of laughs - I would definitely recommend it!!!
