Francis Byng reviewed: Portrait sculpture in clay

"Luke Shepherd is an experienced sculptor and tutor who puts tremendous energy into this fairly intensive 4-day course. Covers all aspects of the sculpting of a portrait head from a model. Supportive and friendly atmosphere, excellent facilities and first-class tuition. Recommended"

Luke Shepherd responded:

"Thanks for your kind review. It was a pleasure to have you in the course a second time and to see your noticeable improvement. Yes you’re right it is quite intensive, yet I hope this adds to the learning environment and helps you get the most from the 4 days. "

Missie reviewed: Further Fused Glass Techniques with April Pebble

"Hi, I bought this course as a gift for my hubby. It all went really well, he had a great time being chatty with other people and he learnt some new techniques he didn't know for working in glass. He said that the tutor April was interested and supportive and the space was lovely and safe. My only gripe was that he didn't come home with anything as it takes 1 day to fire and another to cool, but hey-ho that's working in glass for you. We did return two days later to pick up and everything was lovely including the lovely coffees and apple flapjack in the cafe. So Thanks April, that was a lovely birthday gift for my hubby."

April Pebble responded:

"Hi Missie, thanks for booking Scott onto the Further Fused Glass workshop! I'm so glad he enjoyed his day and that he's learnt some new skills working with glass. He was a pleasure to have in the workshop, it truly was a lovely day :) All the best, April "

Lou of Leeds reviewed: Crafts in the Valley - Beginners glass fusing workshops in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire

"Loved it! We achieved so much. Great teacher, very calm and patient and knowledgeable. Fantastic location, lovely to drive nearby. Really fun course. We started with cutting glass - something I was nervous about but all of us were good at under her guidance, then decorating later on. We were on a Christmas themed day so made and decorated a star, made a dish, a coaster and a pair of earrings and tree. We came away feeling knowledgeable on the subject, like we'd achieved a lot but that it wasn't rushed through, it was all at a good pace, even had a bit of stollen and alcohol free mulled wine. Yum!"

Mandy Hendry reviewed: Further Fused Glass Techniques with April Pebble

"I absolutely loved this course with April. For anyone interested in glass then I would highly recommend any of Aprils courses and she is a very knowledgeable and organised teacher. This course started at 10am which gave me Perry of time to drive there from Bristol and it finished at 4pm with a break for lunch. You can either take your own lunch or buy lunch in the beautiful little cafe next door, either way the cafe allows you to take your own lunch in, which I did and I bought a drink and a cake as well as some beautiful reserves. We made 3 artefacts with April during the days course, a coaster, a wall hanger and a leaf infused piece, I was pleased with all the pieces I managed to make and thoroughly enjoyed making them all. There was a great selection of glass and April was very professional in her knowledge and health and safety instructions of working with glass. I would highly recommend this course to anyone starting their journey into wanting to learn more about glass infusion. April is also a trained artist working in all areas of glass making and runs other courses in stain glass making, copper glass as well as more advanced work for those wishing to continue after this foundation course. Thank you for a lovely day April. "

April Pebble responded:

"Thanks for attending the Further Fused Glass Course Mandy! It was a real pleasure to have your easy going self in the workshop that day and so glad you had a great time! Your pieces turned out really beautiful, especially loved how the fossil vitra turned out :) Hope all goes well running workshops in Spain! Warmest wishes, April "

Matt reviewed: Axe / Hammer Forging Day

"Great experience. Very informative walkthrough the whole process, complete with a nice explanation of why heat treating and tempering work the way they do. Enough work to do that it truly felt like my own completed product, but enough help when needed that I actually have an axe and not some weird bottle opener or robotic crab or something. Will definitely be booking in for another course at some point."

Elaine Briggs reviewed: Glass Artist's Studio Experience Day - Fusing (Private Booking)

"Had a great day with Dawn. We learned how to cut glass safely. Different methods for different types of glass. Practicing on window glass and made something from the bits we cut. Then in the afternoon we moved onto coloured glass and the different methods and techniques of fusing to get different pieces, textures and finishes. Using frit of different sizes and colours to create a couple of decorative items. Can’t wait to see how they come out of the kiln. Just a couple of weeks to wait for it all to be fired. Well worth doing if you have an interest in glasswork Word of warning in colder months it can get quite chilly in the workshop so take lots of layers to keep warm. "

Dawn Turner Designs responded:

"Hi Elaine, thank you for your review - and indeed, it can be cold! It was great to meet you and your lovely family. You were all enthusiastic, open and willing, and I had a great day working with you all - I will be in touch as soon as everything is ready - thank you again for a lovely day. "
