Tim Owen reviewed: Adventures in book binding with Ali Reeve

"Lots and lots of fun, with expert instruction, wonderful interplay between Ali and her husband, who was working nearby, and the company of two lovely dogs. All materials were provided (the frames and press had been created by Ali's very talented husband), and several different styles of bound books were produced during the day. I got the feeling that everybody left very happy -- I certainly did."

Stamps Away responded:

"Thank you so much Tim, so glad you enjoyed the day and your books were brilliant! "

Priya reviewed: One Day Stained Glass Workshop - 121 OR for 2 (with a friend)

"Ruth is a wonderful teacher. Her studio is warm and welcoming, in a lovely location, and she has a wide and stunning range of glass to choose from. She taught in a way that felt really empowering, giving me direction and guidance when needed, but also allowing me space to take initiative, which helped me build my confidence. I came in with a design I thought might be too ambitious, but with Ruth’s support I finished it in a day and I’m really pleased with the result. Ruth has years of experience and answered all of my questions, even printing a useful list of equipment for me, in case I want to continue. She was generous with materials and let me try one section in two different colours when I couldn’t decide, which was very kind. On top of that, she very generously kept the teas and coffees flowing. Thanks so much for a wonderful day, Ruth x"

Blue Skies Glass Studio responded:

"Thank you so much for your lovely review Priya, it really was lovely to have you creating in the studio! x"

Nicola Montagu reviewed: Crosscut saw sharpening

"Brilliant course. I have been meaning to go and do this course for about 18 months. I wasn't disappointed. I learnt so much. Learnt how to clean up and sharpen the saw that I brought with me and learnt how to maintain it. Although Gavin is based in Scotland, his location is well served by a bus route. "

ShedTherapy responded:

"I am glad to have helped Nicola's saw learning. "

"This was a lovely course to do. We learned a lot and our teacher Sian gave great guidance. Even with our very creative ideas (stretching beyond our capability), Sian, helped us to realise some of the concepts we came up with for the designs. Using the different tools and machines was fun and we are really pleased with what we produced."

Roma reviewed: Introduction to Green Wood Furniture Making - 2 Day Course in South Devon

"I thoroughly enjoyed this course - despite having no significant prior experience in woodwork, I was able to take a length of a tree trunk, learn new skills and create something that is a lovely piece of furniture. Peter and Toby were good tutors who created a friendly atmosphere and shepherded us to learn and at a measured pace. The setting of the workshop in a gentle Devon valley in autumn, just made it perfect and a joy."

Peter Lanyon Furniture responded:

"Thank you Roma, we both enjoyed meeting and working with you and your sister, Very best wishes, Peter"

Alex reviewed: Relief Wood Carving Art

"Appalling value for money. The instructor had done no preparation, her tools were blunt and rusty, someone even got a piece of wood that was rotten inside. The woodworking table provided wasn’t fit for purpose as it didn’t have enough cut outs for the clamps being used. Although the instructor was friendly she delivered virtually no instruction, at one point she asked the group how long the course was due to last as she couldn’t remember. Very disappointed - YouTube videos would be better!"

Hilary Jones reviewed: Create a mosaic in a day in Yorkshire with professional mosaic artist Sue Kershaw

"Sue is a very talented artist - easy to follow and very inspirational. We'd been to a mosaic course years ago and had the equipment to finish off the challenging designs we chose back at home. You can choose easier ones to do in a day but be prepared to buy some little tile cutters and carry on this fabulous hobby at home. A lovely day out and would make a wonderful Birthday or Xmas present for you and a loved one! "

Sue Kershaw responded:

"Thank you so much Hilary for the lovely review. It was great to meet you both. With best wishes, Sue"

Nick reviewed: Letter carving in wood

"My wife bought me a letter carving course for the day but Andy persuaded me to maybe consider wood turning as an alternative as I would get to try the machines that I don’t have at home. It was a full on day learning completely new skills and understanding the importance of sharpening tools! The whole day was interspersed with fun and humour and excellent cakes from Mary and I felt very welcomed and at home. My homework is to learn some letter carving from a recommended book using tools that I bought from him, sharpened of course, Overall a really fun, adventurous day in a well equipped workshop with a superb teacher. I will back with my homework. Would not hesitate to recommend."

Andys woodworking responded:

"Thanks for your kind comments Nick It was a delight having you in the workshop And we are looking forward to seeing you again Andy Mary Angus "

Lou D reviewed: Introduction to Green Wood Furniture Making - 2 Day Course in South Devon

"I treated myself to this course as something to look forward to in autumn. It did not disappoint! I had done some framebuilding before, but have never worked with green woodworking tools, and using a shave horse was completely new. The group was small, and people were lovely - perhaps there’s something about folk who are drawn to working with wood 😀. We worked outside on day 1, working together to process a fresh ash log into what would become legs on our various creations. Following the whole process from log to finished item was brilliant. After making our legs, we chose a piece of timber for our table or stool. It was interesting learning about the different woods, and choosing a piece that would give character to our work. Day 2 was so wet, but we were cosy and happy working inside the barn with its many work spaces and wood burner. Peter demonstrated each process before we got stuck in, ably supported by Toby, who helped us all over the two days. I was amazed at what we all managed to achieve in just 2 days. All we have to do now is apply finish to our pieces. I am delighted to have a shaped ash stool that’s the perfect height for practising my guitar. Thank you to Peter and Toby for their knowledge, patience, encouragement and gentle manner, and to all the lovely people on the course who also made it so enjoyable. "

Peter Lanyon Furniture responded:

"Thank you Lou, it was a real pleasure to meet you..Glad you enjoyed the course, and I hope our paths will cross again. "
