Come along to the Forest of Dean and spend the day with me in my workshop, creating a small stained glass window using the copper foil technique. Learn the skills of cutting glass, soldering, foiling and edging in lead. You will finish with a colourful window panel to display in your home.
The class starts at 10am and finishes at around 4pm.
You will make a panel that is 18cm x 18cm square. I have lots of designs to choose from, so need to bring anything. (It can be tricky to use designs brought from home because there is maximum number of pieces of glass that can be cut in a day.)
I teach the copper foil method for stained glass - feel free to google this beforehand if you are not sure what this means! We will also use traditional lead came to create a frame for the piece.
Important information: this class is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers due to the use of lead. For everyone else, please be reassured that I supply gloves and fume masks as well as running a fume extractor.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
There will be a lunchtime break as well as a few tea breaks in between. You will need to bring along a packed lunch.
All materials are included in the cost of the course, all you need to remember is to wear sensible footwear and clothes that you won't worry about spoiling. I provide aprons and all safety protection, for example goggles and dust masks.
The maximum I teach at one time is 3 so that everyone gets plenty of 1 to 1 time to help them with the various different skills needed for stained glass. It is a relaxed day and you will go home having learnt several new skills and with a piece of stained glass to be proud of.

Jo was brilliant! Only me and my partner on the course which Jo kindly ran on his birthday. We both had a fab time, learnt loads and took home 2 wonderful panels. Would recommend the day and course. You don't have to have any prior experience as Jo explains everything! A five star experience.
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Hi Sarah,
My daughter and I did Jo's one day course in February 2020 and it was excellent. I have wanted to try making stained glass for for a number of years and it was so interesting that I am seriously thinking of taking it up as a hobby. The facilities in Jo's workshop are first class and with only three people on each course she is able to give each participant one to one tuition and allow each to work at their own speed.
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and it is surprising how much can be covered in depth during the day. If you have been thinking of giving this craft a try we would both highly recommend that you book this course. Thanks again Jo and for the advice you gave me on what tools and equipment I would need to take up stained glass making as a hobby at home.
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Hi Kelvin,
Myself and my friend Laura went on a full day stained glass class with Jo yesterday and we had an amazing day!
Jo is an excellent teacher, she explained and demonstrated all stages really well and was always about if we had any questions throughout the day.
Her studio is so lovely and homely too, it felt like we were just having a relaxing day at a friends house doing some crafting!
Many thanks Jo, we love our glass panels and can’t wait to come back again in the future!
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Hi there Elaine and Laura, thank you for the lovely review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the day. Your windows were great! I look forward to hopefully seeing you again 🙂
I had a great day at Jo's studio in July last year. She explained everything really well and was very patient which made me feel at ease. I came home full of ideas and enthusiasm, with a beautiful stained glass panel that now hangs in my pear tree. Everyone who has seen it thinks it looks great, although I must admit it was more fiddly than I had imagined. It was definitely a day of feeding the soul and therefore I would highly recommend booking a course with Jo.
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Hi Liz, thank you for a great review, I'm so glad you enjoyed the day! You rose to the challenge very well and I'm glad you came away feeling enthused.
Brilliant afternoon spent making a colourful star alongside my friend who also attended. The pace of the course was excellent and jo made it easy for us to understand each process. It was fun choosing our choice of glass with many colours and textures available. I can highly reccomend jo , all abilities are supported and at the end of the course you have your own creation to take away with you. Thanks Jo.
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Many thanks for a lovely review, I'm glad you both enjoyed the class! Kind regards, Jo :-)
What a lovely day as a birthday treat. We all enjoyed this insight into the skills and effort that goes into making even a small panel and will look at stained glass windows with a greater appreciation in the future.
Jo is a patient and relaxed teacher holding small, personal classes in her perfectly set up studio. We were thrilled with our first achievements and will display them proudly as reminders of an enjoyable day out.
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Thank you for your review, I'm so glad you enjoyed the day, you all did very well!
Just had a stained glass day class with Jo, I loved it and was thrilled with what I made. Jo was helpful and friendly throughout and plenty of 1 to 1 tuition as she only has small classes. Would definitely recommend the class and her own work in the workshop is amazing.
We had a really enjoyable one day course learning how to cut glass and construct a multi-coloured stained glass window in a lead frame.
Under Jo’s very friendly and expert guidance we were both able to get to grips with cutting the glass and soldering it in place and with a wide range of designs, colours and textures of glass to choose from we were able to be creative and individual in the look and feel of the final product. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and came away with a real sense of achievement and a couple of pieces of art we are both rather proud of! Many thanks to Jo for providing such an enjoyable experience!
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Thanks for the lovely review Sam and Mari, really glad you enjoyed the course!
We had a fantastic day at Jo's studio. She was an excellent teacher - explaining everything fully and carefully. There were plenty of designs to choose from and so much variety and colours of glass. We felt very proud and had such a sense of achievement by the end of the day with our panels. We all said we'd definitely like to have another day. Thank you Jo, would highly recommend!
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Thank you Anne-Marie, I'm really glad you enjoyed your day and were all so pleased with the stained glass panels you made! You're very welcome to come back any time :-)
Myself and 2 friends spent a fantastic day in Jo's wonderful workshop space.
We are all impressed with what we were able to achieve, and delighted with the stained glass panels that we produced.
Jo is a great teacher, patient, kind and encouraging.
Response from Jo Snowdon Stained Glass:Many thanks for your review, I am so glad you enjoyed the day! Best wishes, Jo
I did this day course with my mum and we were both complete beginners. Jo taught us the different stages at a reasonable pace and with lots of demonstration and help when needed. We were both thrilled with our stained glass panels. I can highly recommend this course.
