Description
Start as a beginner, leave as a glassmaking addict. In this full-day workshop, you’ll discover the magic of glassblowing step-by-step, guided by experienced and encouraging artists in their inspiring studio. Everything you need – materials, tools, and equipment – is provided, so all you need to bring is curiosity and a little creativity. You’ll join a small group of 4–6 people, with up to two tutors on hand to support you. This balance keeps things friendly, personal, and full of opportunities to learn. While you’ll be mastering important technical skills, there’s also plenty of space for creativity. With a rainbow of colours to choose from, you’ll get to experiment with patterns, textures, and finishes to make your glass truly your own. Early in the day, you’ll be introduced to colour techniques that you can apply to your pieces. Over the course of the workshop, you’ll create: • A bowl. • A paperweight. Plus a final piece of your choice: • Small jug. • Small vase. • Decorative bauble. Along the way, you’ll learn how to gather molten glass from a 1100°C furnace, shape it with traditional hand-forged tools, and – of course – blow your own glass. Once the hot work is done, you’ll discover the equally fascinating process of cooling and annealing, learning how professionals finish and protect their creations. Our teaching approach blends demonstration and hands-on practice, so you’ll watch a technique first, then safely try it yourself. By the end of the day, you’ll not only take home three beautiful, personalised glass pieces, but also a deeper understanding of the glassblowing process – and quite possibly, a new obsession. Please note: your glass needs to anneal overnight and be cold-worked before it’s ready to collect. We can either post your finished pieces to you or arrange a collection time.
