Kate Billington led the course of around a dozen people, most of whom were absolute beginners, like myself and my wife. She was very calm and thorough and seemed to generate plenty of time for individual help whenever it was needed.
By the end of the day she had taken us from how to score a straight line on a clear piece of flat glass to producing a very pleasing piece of stained glass artwork. How she managed it in the time I do not know, but I enjoyed the whole day and was amazed at the skills I seemed to pick up with her help.
Christine and I thoroughly enjoyed the one day traditional stained glass workshop we both attended on Saturday. Kate is an excellent tutor. She explained each process in detail and spent lots of time with each student when needed. Imagine our surprise to walk away with 2 finished stained glass pieces at the end of the day. We will most definitely come back to experience more and we would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. Thank you again Kate for a great day.
A very intense and satisfying day. Lots of new skills to learn and a lot to fit into the day, but Kate kept a very calm atmosphere and was always there when anyone needed help! Everyone got on well and supported each other, and we were all very proud at the end of the day with our finished items. It was very interesting and we all learnt a lot, and had a lot of fun at the same time. Thanks Kate for your expertise, humour and patience !
This was an excellent day covering many skills. Kate was a superb teacher. She explained everything so well and was very encouraging and patient. I needed a lot of help being a rather non crafty, non practical individual. The final piece was stunning however with help! I did enjoy the day but found it quite intense.
The soldering right at the end finished me off - wish I had had time to practice this skill. Thankfully Kate stepped in doing the job otherwise I might still be at the studio! I do fancy the mosaic workshop however with no soldering in sight. Thank you for the experience.
I attended the one day traditional stained glass workshop with Kate, and it was fantastic! Kate explained all the techniques really clearly and was patient and helpful with all the students. I really enjoyed the day and am very pleased with the panel I made. I hope to be back again soon!
My boyfriend and I had a great day, I would recommend this course to anyone. Martin is a great teacher, very patient and runs a really good session. We are chuffed to bits with our stained glass light catchers and would probably do this again.
This is such a fantastic course. Martin is a great tutor, everything was explained and demonstrated really well in a small group and a lovely relaxed environment. I will definitely be returning to have a go at another course. Thank you.
I highly recommend this workshop as I came away with a piece of finished stained glass, having learnt lots of new skills. It is an intensive day, in a relaxed supportive atmosphere with demonstrations and then lots of one to one tuition as needed. There was no pressure to rush and we were encouraged all the way.
It was a small group and the room is a pleasant environment to work in with all the equipment and materials on hand.
Thanks very much.
I had always wanted to have a go at making a stained glass panel and I'm pleased to say I wasn't disappointed. Kate, our tutor, was totally lovely, patient and very supportive of all members of the group. All materials were set out in our own workspaces beforehand and she clearly explained each stage of the process so we all knew the appropriate tools and techniques to use. Everyone was encouraged to work at their own pace and we all ended up with beautiful pieces to take home. A lovely atmosphere and a fabulous experience. Thanks!!
This one day traditional stained glass course is excellent. I have tried fused glass, but have always wanted to try stained glass and this was thoroughly enjoyable. The workshop is big enough to accommodate 12 people comfortably - although 8 was our number - and all materials and tools are provided. It is full on concentration and help is always at hand if you struggle with any of the stages.
Today we had Kate as our tutor as Martin was with family on a much needed day off and she was very good at explaining what to do and why. I will consider doing either more workshops or a longer course or even trying the other courses available. I'm very pleased with how my piece turned out, just need to decide where to hang it. I would highly recommend these courses. Thank you.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable day on the traditional stained glass course and would highly recommend it. Martin gave clear instruction and encouragement which allowed everyone to practise each stage and produce a lovely piece of stained glass to take home. The course was well paced but didn't seem rushed.
Spent a great day yesterday with a superb teacher (Martin). The course managed to cater really well for a wide range of abilities and previous knowledge as well as experience of working with glass. Martin is clearly very skillful at his craft and is an excellent teacher. He paced the day well, demonstrating every step and allowing everyone time to practice before moving on. He was constantly there for support and advice whilst still allowing us to learn at our own pace. We all came away with a well made piece of stained glass.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day, learnt a great deal and would without reservation recommend this course for anyone wanting an introduction to the lovely craft of Stained Glass making.
We had a great day learning some new skills. Kate was very patient with us and an excellent teacher. There was an excellent choice of glass for the design, and were really pleased with the panels we made to take home.
Would highly recommend.
Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. Kate who was leading the workshop was really helpful and patient. Obviously knows her craft very well and made the day a very enjoyable experience which would definately try again. Whilst a long day it flies by but slept well that night
Another fantastic workshop - this time stained glass with Kate.
Kate was an excellent teacher and explained everything clearly and made sure we were all understanding what stage we were on in creating our piece of stained glass...... from cutting and grinding the glass, cutting the lead and soldering (which was an experience! (: ) - all done in a friendly, relaxed environment with a wonderful group. Although it was a full-on-day you never felt rushed but I did sleep well (:
Thank you once again Kate for a great day. I will definitely be looking to book my next workshop or course.
I had a great time on the course, I felt a bit out of my depth at times but Kate was brilliant - really patient and helpful, and I'm still amazed that I managed to finish a picture over the course of the day (the time went very quickly)! There was a lot to take in but it was really interesting and enjoyable.
The course was quite outside my zone of experience, it was tough day concentration needed through the day and was exactly what I was looking for. The other attendees were good mixers and produced various pieces of work. I think the course could have worked better over 2 days for my standard of work, but other did finish well within time.Kate Billington ran the course kept us on our toes would like to go back on another, well done everyone.
Kate is a fantastic teacher . Everything was clearly explained and she gave us plenty of encouragement and help if required. Really pleased with what we achieved in such a short time. Would love to do a longer course but I live too far away :(
A really good day out, I had fancied a go at lead work for a long time and this came as a birthday present. There was a nice mix of people who all got on well and Kate was very patient with us and showed us clearly what to do.
It was a full day and worth every penny (even though I didn't pay for it!) and I would thoroughly recommend it. I can see it could become quite addictive and a good stress reliever as you do have to concentrate as cutting glass with sharp instruments.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Kate was great. She demonstrated everything superbly and was on hand to assist as and when required. Lovely to be able to come away with a coupe of stained glass samples illustrating what we had learnt. Highly recommended and will be checking the other courses out.
A brilliant day and course. Martin is a wonderful teacher , explains everything really well and is on hand to offer advice and help when you need it. I love my traditional stained glass piece that I completed during the day.
Highly recommend this course
