Mary reviewed: Introductory course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"I had a fabulous day with Christine on 2nd September 2022. The workshop is held in a lovely light workshop in Christine's garden. I have no experience of felting but by the end of the day I had lots of information and practice and lots of inspiration for future makes. We made multicoloured felt circles and turned them into 3D flowers but if flowers were not your thing I felt that Christine could adapt the course to your needs. Lunch of home grown produce and home made cider went down very well."

Kate Jenkins reviewed: A Beekeeping Taster Day

"I attended the course as I am very interested to start beekeeping and wanted to understand more of what it entails and whether it’s for me or not. The morning was spent in the classroom learning all about the bees and how incredibly clever they are! We learnt about how the equipment works and all about diseases and health and safety. It was so interesting. We also got to look at examples of the different bees, handle honeycomb and propolis, and of course we tried some delicious honey. In the afternoon we met Josh - the bee man of Bexhill! He clearly adores bees and his love of beekeeping was so endearing. He showed us a hive and we inspected all the frames in the brood and saw the Queen and cells with eggs and pupae. We learnt about the different hives and equipment needed to get started. I’m hooked. This isn’t a course to enable you to get going - I think I now need to go on a course on how to get started and I will join my local bee association to do this. The only thing is - I was pretty cold as the classroom is in a sort of shed - so do take layers with you! Great day though, thank you. "

Mantel Farm responded:

"Deat Kate, thanks for leaving a review of our Beekeeping Taster Day, I am pleased you want to get started with your beekeeping. Local associations are a great sourse of help, and we also offer an intenstive weekend course to get you started."

Simon reviewed: Green Wood Rustic Stick Chair

"A beautifully paced day of creative exploration and making. Pete and Jacqui were knowledgeable, passionate, welcoming and encouraging. Like with all good creative training days there were some structured, boundaried bits, laying down foundations onto which we could (and were encouraged to) express our own ways of working. Would definitely recommend. "

Pat S reviewed: 'Art of Stained Glass' - Oldbury, Birmingham

"I cannot recommend the one day stained glass leading course enough. Jamal was an incredible host. He introduced us to the history of stained glass, his experiences during his career in the field and went on to explain the techniques involved. We chose designs that he supplied or ones that we had prepared, and proceeded with the glass cutting initially. Jamal was fantastically attentive to all 3 of us, helping out regularly when required. The lead cutting, assembly, soldering and putty filling all followed quickly. Suddenly we each had a beautiful stained glass panel, enhanced finally with brushing and polishing. This was an incredible course packed with content by an experienced instructor who communicated in an interesting and relaxed manner. The practical side was well explained and organised and we all ended up with something to proudly take home."

Stained Glassic responded:

"I really appreciate Pat . Thanks for coming and booking a course with me. "

Glenn Burton reviewed: Router Day Class

"Just had a day with David on his How to Use a Router Class. The day was excellent with David making sure that he knew what each of us might want to get from the class. He took us from basics (including the very important safety aspects) through to producing some very hands on and satisfying router work. He took time to make sure that we all understood each aspect and covered a wide range of topics including what type of router to consider buying, the benefits of a router table, and considerations around bits and other accessories. I can thoroughly recommend David and this course."

Trudi reviewed: Friday (Fortnightly) Bobbin Lace Making - Daytime Mixed Lace Classes (Barnham - West Sussex)

"I am a beginner and have just done one session of this course which I thoroughly enjoyed. The course leader was friendly, helpful and very patient with plenty of individual time for each of the course participants. All of the necessary equipment was available on loan or to purchase. Despite it being my first session I managed to make a small piece of lace. I’m very much looking forward to the next session."

Tina's Bobbin Lacemaking responded:

"Hi Trudi Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I am looking forward to seeing you at the next session, and taking through you through some more techniques. I hope lace making will be the craft that keeps the little grey cells active! Let's hope you enjoy the next session as much as th first. See you in October. Regards Tina"

Toby reviewed: Silver jewellery making class for beginners

"Fantastic day, achieved so much and took home a wonderful project in silver as well as some rather fine copperwork! Jonathan has a peaceful, well kitted-out studio and took two of us complete novices from working with copper wire and copper sheet to hone our basic skills into making a gift-worthy copper bracelet. In the morning session we learnt how to make links and jump rings to using the jeweller's piercing saw to finishing and polishing. In the afternoon we concentrated on our individual projects (Jonathan was more than happy to guide us through our very different ideas). My friend made an exquisite bangle that she would have been delighted to purchase (it looked fantastic and really picked up the light and was so comfortable). I made a pendant, sawing out an intricate shape then using the embossing stamps before finishing the piece with lots of careful filing and polishing - completed the project with just the right chain. We both had a day of immense achievement and joy. I will be booking some time with Jonathan, both with a further session for us two adults as well as shorter sessions for my 8 and 10 yr old children."

Salt Way Silver responded:

"Wow! Such a comprehensive and complimentary review - Thank you Toby (and Jenny) for choosing Salt Way Silver and well done with your jewellery making. I hope your girls appreciate your hard work - the oak leaf pendants and the bangle worked out very well. Jonathan "

Simon reviewed: Intermediate 1-day 1-2-1 woodturning workshop for 1 person

"Thank you very much for the super informative and well paced tuition that you gave me on the 1-1 woodturning course. Your enthusiasm was contagious and it was great to learn from your own experiences with this challenging activity; a real pastime in the true sense of the word! I can’t wait to get my garage cleared out (a mammoth task that may take me some time yet!) and fully set up with wood lathe and supporting tools needed to take on this new hobby. "

Blended Monkey - pottery - woodturning - green woodworking - pole lathe - throwing responded:

"Hi Simon, So glad to hear that the day has inspired you to clear out your garage and pursue the craft. Good luck and do get in touch if you need any further assistance. — Simon"

"This course comes highly recommended. From the very warm welcome, delicious cakes and refreshments, there wasn’t anything not to like. Denny was very patient and informative, sharing lots of tips and examples of her excellent work. Working in a small group was friendly and intimate with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and offer encouragement, along with a few laughs. I was thrilled to come away with some finished pieces of mosaic and a passion to explore further. "

"What a lovely review, Shirley! Thank you so much. I’m so pleased to know you enjoyed your day and especially that it’s given you a passion to do more - I hope to see you again sometime and feel free, in the meantime, to ask any questions you may have about your mosaic’ing. Denny x"

"I took my daughter in law along to the one day course. We had a choice of style and colour. Bex had everything ready for us to sew together. It was brilliant. She is an encouraging teacher (I was struggling at one point) and is well organised and friendly. I need to make another bag soon, as a friend saw my blue bucket bag and it went to a new home!"

Hugh Sillett reviewed: Woodturning tuition in Wiltshire

"A wonderful day was my course with Andy in Trowbridge. I arrived feeling somewhat nervous - at age 74 it is not easy to learn new stuff - however Andy and Mary his wife made me feel very welcome. I was amazed at the amount Andy taught me during the day and he also gave me valuable advice about purchasing a lathe and tools in the future. Andy is an excellent teacher, highly motivational and very understanding when one is struggling to progress. I am looking forward to returning to Andy and Mary for a further course once I have purchased my lathe. Hugh Sillett, Winterlsow, Salisbury."
