Description

You will make a set of three seed heads and/or flower garden ornaments in this one day ceramics workshop. In the morning we will sculpt with clay to make seed heads and flowers (initially I will guide everyone step by step through the process of making a poppy seed head) and after lunch we will paint on the green and bronze glaze (this is called raw glazing). The finished, fired pieces will be ready to collect after 3 or 4 weeks, or we can arrange postage for around £7 if you live further away. They will be frost resistant and you can leave them in the garden all your round If you have any seed heads or flowers that you would like to bring along for inspiration please do! Workshops take place in my garden studio in Hindhead, Surrey. All abilities welcome. I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching pottery since 2016. *Please understand that I am very generous with sharing my years of knowledge and techniques I have developed. If you intend to make seed heads or flowers after my workshop using the techniques I have shown you during the workshop, please be considerate and do not sell your work or run a similar workshop due to copyright. However you may use these techniques for making other items in your own style to sell. It's all about finding your own creative voice! If you share work created during my workshop on social media, please mention and tag me.

What's included in the price?

The workshop includes the firing of three seed heads and the metal rods to mount them on. Occasionally people find the time to make a fourth seed head, in which case it’s a small cost of £7 per additional piece to cover the cost of materials. I will provide tea, coffee and a snack. Please bring a packed lunch. Also bring an apron and wear old clothes and closed toed shoes.

"My friend and I had a wonderful day on this course. Emma is an excellent teacher and has devised a perfectly paced 1-day workshop. We all started by making the same item so that Emma could teach us the basic techniques, then we could choose what to make for our additional projects. There were several options to chose - or for the more adventurous you could make something of your own imagination. No skill is needed - everyone came away with some really excellent items. We have just picked ours up after firing and I can’t actually believe that I made them. They look amazing in our garden!"
