About the Course
Experimental feltmaking day course covering basic flat felt and nunotechniques: Designing and making images and patterns, pre-felts, layering and all you need to get started as a felt maker!
You will be shown how to design your own pattern or picture from an image or source of your own choice (don't worry if you haven't got any ideas, I've got lots of books and samples to inspire you) for either a wall hanging, cushion, scarf, or piece of fabric to be later made into something such as a bag or book cover.
How to translate your image into felt, select colours, and use pre-felts and layering to form pockets and flaps. At the end of the day you will come away with a finished piece of felt to be made into a book cover, bag,or cushion, and the confidence to carry on and make lots more.
We will also cover Nuno felting techniques to create beautiful fabrics suitable for scarves and garments.
I run this course for up to 4 people in my purpose built studio at my home situated on a hillside in the beautiful Forest of Dean. The access is quite steep, and not suitable for wheelchairs unfortunately.

This was my third trip to Christine Waygood and I loved it! As usual Christine made it inspirational and enjoyable. The studio has a wealth of colourful wools and materials. We spent the day creating felt flowers, using lots of techniques and having lots of fun. I am really pleased with my lovely colourful results and will definitely be coming back.

A truly inspirational course. It was my second course with Christine and I am glad I did it. Again we enjoyed the private atmosphere in Christine's workshop and a nice round of similar-minded people. We got lots of options to try and everyone produced a unique felting object, or even two. I gave it a go with nuno-felting and concentrated more on trying different techniques simply because Christine's experience of working with the different materials to produce a good quality fabric is massive. It was again an amazing day and I am looking forward to practice now on my own.

What a great day. Christine was a patient, helpful inspiring teacher with a lovely approach to her craft and pupils. Well equipped studio, plentiful cups of coffee, wonderful soup for lunch and a view to die for. The process of making the felt was interesting and absorbing, all the slippers that we made were very individual and creative. I shall look forward very much to wearing mine this winter. I would thoroughly recommend Christine's courses.

Thanks Rita,This one-day course was most enjoyable. Lots of beautiful colours and an opportunity to make your ideas be expressed in felt.
I have never made any felt before and I came away with a piece I felt proud of. Creative, relaxing and full of surprises!
The studio and house are set in a beautiful garden with stunning views. The lunch was delicious and it was good to be creative with others.
Well done Christine Waygood!

My Mum, Aunty and I recently spent the day with Christine, where we made welt felted vessels for tea lights, using ideas that I had found on the internet.
We had a lovely, relaxed day and were made to feel very at home in Christine's cottage, with plenty refreshments and tasty home made food.
Christine shared many of her tips and is very passionate about her craft and clearly gains enjoyment through sharing it.
We are all inspired and confident enough to make more items and continue wet felting at home.
Many thanks!

I wanted to do something different for my mum for mother’s day. I looked up felting courses after she showed an interest in it at an art exhibition. I thought it would also be something nice we could do together ... and as complete novices, we arrived with no expectations but ended up having a fantastic day, learned so much and Christine made everything easy to follow. We travelled from Bolton encouraged by the great reviews and it was definitely worth the trip! We had lots of opportunity to experiment, try lots of different techniques and ask questions. We both came away super inspired and shared the day with some really lovely people! (And gorgeous little Fife the dog) Thankyou so much , Christine! Lunch was also fantastic and We hope to be able to come back again!

Thank you for a super day. A relaxed and fun experience - I learnt a lot and now have the confidence to go home and try wet felting on my own. Chris shared lots of good ideas and tips over and above the basic wet felting method. Lunch was yummy too. I would recommend the day to anyone who wants to have a go at a new skill in a lovely setting.

I spent yesterday immersed in a wonderful world of texture, colour and taste.
Christine's relaxed but skilled and informative style of teaching was perfect for making a most enjoyable and rewarding day. Having never wet felted before, the morning skill session was non threatening and gave me confidence to experiment in the afternoon. I indulged myself in creating a rather mad and very vibrant landscape which was what l had set my heart on. I particularly valued Christine's gentle encouragement for me to discover my own style, rather than simply basing my ideas on a particular felt artist l admire. The warm welcome, Jem's homemade soup and Christine's flapjacks were delicious. It was well worth the two hour drive each way. Lynn Ellison

We thoroughly enjoyed our felt making day at Chris's delightful cottage in such a pretty valley. The instructions to find the cottage were spot on and the welcome was very warm. We knew we were in for a fabulous , happy and creative day.
Chris calmly, and with great patience showed us the techniques. Her workshop was full of beautiful examples of her work to inspire us.
The lunch was simply delicious- and tea and flapjack were consumed at regular intervals.
Chris's expertise and gentle help enabled each of us to successfully achieve our ambitious ideas. -
What a treat of a day out!

I would very much like to thank you for my introductory session to the world of felting. As a complete novice to all things art and craft, I was supported and inspired to produce a piece of work that can be made into a tissue box cover at a later date. Your years of experience and love of the medium created a relaxed and happy atmosphere in which to focus on a new skill. The setting of your home and workshop are charming and well worth the hour's drive from the Bath and Bristol area-in fact I would say that the journey itself set my creative juices flowing; passing as I did the most spectacular views of the Severn estuary both crossing the original bridge via the M48 and on the A48 from Chepstow to Blakeney. Lunch was really tasty and left us punters asking "Are there any more men like your husband who can knock up a soup with home grown veg and bake flapjack who aren't already spoken for in the near vicinity!"
Altogether a totally fulfilling experience and I can't wait to make a return visit for my second Saturday chez toi.

I was just emailing to say what a lovely time I had on Saturday! It's always nerve wracking going somewhere new, but you made me feel comfortable and confident and I will take away the knowledge you taught me and have a go at home myself. I would highly recommend to anybody that they should come on your courses, I loved the small group and you had plenty of time to help everybody. It was a pleasure to spend the day at your home and I will definitely look at arranging a small group to come and spend the day with you in the future. Last but not least, the food you provided was amazing so please thank your husband for getting it all together for us.

Had a really good day at the experimental felting workshop Saturday.
The surroundings are so relaxing you can't help but become absorbed in the creative process.
The studio is well stocked with colourful wool, good books and her own works of art that you can't fail to
Become inspired. Chris is also very patient and accepting of individuals own ideas. All this and it's
Topped off with a lovely home cooked lunch... I would very much like to return again. Thanks. Karen

Chris is a very experienced and talented teacher who makes the day fun and enjoyable. She has a natural warmth and passion for textiles which comes across in her teaching, encouraging and showing the various applications of wool to create stunning results. I would recommend booking one of her courses and creating something beautiful and unique.

I've just returned from one of Chris' feltmaking courses - what a wonderful day! Stepping into Chris' studio is like entering an Aladdin's Cave of colour. Thanks to her inspirational approach to teaching, I've not only learnt new skills but have also created a beautiful wall hanging. Thank you once again for helping me find my creative streak!

I am delighted to have discovered the amazing painterly qualities that felt making can achieve, the course was a revelation. The day spent learning the techniques was very enjoyable, and I was happy to have made two pieces by the end of the day. Chris has a beautiful range of colours to work with, she is an inspirational tutor, knowledgeable and friendly, and I can wholeheartedly recommend the experience.

Thanks for a great course. I'm glad Cynthia told me about it. Your studio was good to work in with all the lovely wool in wonderful colours to inspire us and we all managed to make something to take home. Thanks also for letting me use my raw wool clip.
The attached photograph shows what I made with the result. As it looked rather medieval I made it into a bag which was used in a history enactment for Raglan History Society.

Without a creative bone in my body, I made a great piece which I'm going to make into a tote bag. Chris talked us through the basic steps and guided us with a light touch so that most of the day was spent actually felting. After a trial piece (which I am really pleased with) we made something we could use. Others on the course made a cushion cover and a beautiful scarf. It was a very relaxing, fun day. Highly recommended.
