Description

An opportunity on this two day course to create a unique piece of home decor to complement your home and learn two new skills - Feltmaking and Lampshade Making! Day One -: Using native breed or merino wools with additional fibres such as silk, linen and exotics like angora you will design and make a piece of felt fabric. You will learn how to lay out the wool and other fibres and apply wet felting techniques to bond the fibres together. At the end of the first half day session you will have a piece of felt fabric which you will go on to make your Lampshade. Day Two -: Using the felt prepared in the first session you will make your Lampshade. You will learn how to cut your felt fabric to size, adhere a fire resistant backing and shade rings, and gain a basic understanding of how to apply this knowledge to future projects. No previous experience of felting is required, all abilities welcomed. Please note: The workshop runs over two consecutive Saturdays (half days) to allow you to make and dry your felt fabric prior to making the lampshade. However, if you would like to book an alternative date please contact me. Please get in touch for more information via the 'message the tutor' button. Your tutor will be Emma Jackson, a felt maker with over twenty years experience teaching, designing & making felt for her award winning textiles company, Silversoles. The workshop will take place in her home studio in South Birmingham with a small group of no more than five. Please note: the studio is situated at the bottom of a garden with one step up to access the building.
