Wet Felt Making Pictures in Hebden Bridge

A fun day workshop suited to complete beginners. Experiment and explore wet felt-making with a variety of wool and plant fibres. Learn how to use carders and other techniques to make a colourful textural felted picture. With highly experienced fibre artist and tutor Josephine Gornall. Lots of samples of felt making to look at in my studio, where the class is based. We start with a practical demonstration of felt-making, an exploration of all the different wool and plant fibres that I have available for you to use. Then you will make a felted wool picture. You can choose to make a seascape, landscape, floral composition or go abstract. Select from a wide choice of gorgeous coloured wools, plant fibres and textural yarns. Explore blending and mixing wool colours and different types of fibres together. Learn about the differing properties of wool and plant fibres, plus the lovely effects that can be achieved by using pieces of fabric should you choose to use some. Try out embedding wool/plant fibres and yarns into the felted surface to create texture and form in your felted picture. The workshop is held in Josephine's spacious and warm studio in the lovely Birchcliffe Centre, a converted chapel nestled near woodland in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Take in the beautiful surroundings of Hebden Bridge which is well known for its wonderful mix of independent shops and cafes. There is free car park, a Railway station and a regular bus service which stop right outside the Birchcliffe centre. The Birchcliffe Centre is a fully accessible building. Private bespoke workshops are available for friends and families in my studio. From two people upwards. Please get in touch to discuss possibilities.
