You have the choice of making a unique nuno felted scarf, a warm woolly scarf or a piece of wall-art.
Scarf option: during this fabulous felting day, we will make a scarf using soft merino wool and incorporating a beautiful 100% silk scarf and silky fibres to give it a shimmer effect if desired. Sarf included in price.
By manipulating a thin layer of wool through a fine woven material, we will make a scarf with characteristics which are quite different from a traditional felt and is much thicker. There are many possibilities for transparency and exciting texture with drape and flexibility in the material, this lends itself well to the beautiful movement required in a scarf.
I have a variety of very fine silk scarves but please feel free to bring your own scarf if you have a preference.
Alternatively you could create either a picture /wall art or cushion panels
You will have the opportunity to create either a wet felted landscape picture. You will learn how to mix different colours of wool like an artist mixes paints, inconcorporate scrummy bits and bobs of alpaca, wensleydale curly tops and silky shimmers to enhance your picture.
You will need to bring a picture or a brief idea along for inspiration, or I have images, books or examples that you may like to work from.

Barbara Simmons Meek at Feltworld - Creative Art courses
Great day with Barbara - making my beautiful Nuno silk and felt scarf. I really did not expect to be able to make something so beautiful - particularly since I was a first time felter.
A lovely day with my sister - working together on our projects - I can highly recommend the course - we will be back to do another scarf or maybe have a go at Batik next time,
We were really looked after by Barbara - she is so patient and helpful - and makes a lovely vegetable soup!
Great value for money - a full day of activity, plus tutoring , plus lunch and a beautiful handmade one-off scarf - fab!
Thank you for the glowing review 😊. I had a lovely day sharing my skills with you and Janet. You can be proud to say that you made your unique scarves. I will look forward to teaching you again in the future.... You will enjoy the batik 👍. B
I spent a wonderful day with Barbara learning the techniques for making a bag. I’d done some wet-felting before, having taught myself from books, but was lacking inspiration for what to do with the pieces when finished. Barbara is patient, encouraging, informative & incredibly generous with her ideas. There were four of us on the day, all doing something different & we all had lots of one-to-one help. I came away with a really nice bag & lots of confidence & the inspiration I needed to carry on this amazing craft. Barbara opened my eyes to the endless creative possibilities of felting & I will definitely be going back for more workshops - I can’t wait.
Your bag looked amazing Eileen, and I feel inspired to use my bags again 😀. I’ll look forward to seeing your future projects.
As a novice felt maker I had no idea what I would be able to produce during a one day course with Barbara. I completed two pictures which I am so pleased with, one I will frame and keep and the other is going to be made into a cushion cover as a Christmas gift. Barbara was really informative, showing me and a friend the techniques we needed but very hands off so we really had completed our own felt designs. She was always there to encourage us and to show us other techniques we could use to improve our designs. With four people and three different ability felters making completely different products Barbara provided just the right amount of help and support for every one throughout the day.The lunch provided was great too.
I am definitely going to felt again, many thanks Barbara.
Thank you Fiona. Happy felting and if you need any advice, give me a shout and I'll be happy to answer any questions. Barbara
I thoroughly enjoyed my day with two other ladies making a Nuno felt scarf. Barbara was a superb teacher, explaining each step clearly with a great level of knowledge and skill. It was all very relaxed and enjoyable, and I left the day fully inspired to continue with this craft and even try out batik on another course (to be booked with Barbara of course!).
Thank you Carol. Loved your sarf and I hope you get many years of pleasure from it :-).
I spent a wonderful day today playing with colours and textures to make my nuno felted scarf. Barbara was a really positive and informed tutor who helped me to experiment and not make too many mistakes along the way! She has a lovely selection of colours to choose from and gives lots of encouragement.
Thank you, your scarf looks fabulous. Best regards Barbara
Despite slight anxiety about train delays I arrived just in time and everything was very relaxed. All new to me so I was really interested to find out how felting was done and how much energy it took! A lovely experience. Lunch was just right and the day went so fast. Barbara is a great host and has lots of tips and skills to pass on. A really enjoyable experience.
Loved the tactileness of it all.
I very much enjoyed attending the felt picture making course with Barbara. We received a warm welcome alongside tea and biscuits to settle and whilst we considered the focus of our project for the day, then lunch and cake as the day went on kept our energy up for all that wet felting!
Barbara’s style of teaching was clear, informative and supportive, whilst informal and easy going. Enjoyed every minute!
I'm so pleased that you got a lot out of the day. Both yours and Saras pictures looked great. They will look brilliant in a picture frame :-).
Just had a fantastic day with my Mum learning how to make beautiful nuno felted silk scarves. Barbara is very knowledgable and enthusiastic and there was plenty of individual tuition and support as neither of us had felted before. We learned a lot, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the company and came away with 2 stunning individual silk scarves that we will wear with pride! Thanks Barbara :-)
Thank you Jo, I am happy that you and your Mum had a lovely day.
Your scarves looked fabulous, I do hope you get continued pleasure from wearing them :-).
A well run and informative creative day. Barbara is not only a good teacher but a welcoming host who made the day so enjoyable and the new skills easier to grasp. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a new craft challenge. 😁
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words Nick, I love my job and I hope this shines through. Lynn's scarf looked lovely and your picture was fabulous. I hope you both keep up felting as well as enjoying your other activities. Best wishes
Had a wonderful day making a Nuno felt scarf.
Good company and learnt lots.
Arrrhh many thanks for your kind review :-). Your picture looked fabulous...keep on felting. Barbara
Two days spent working with Barbara to produce a fantastic nuno scarf. What a delight it has been to enjoy the good company of Barbara and other participants, the patience and clear delivery of learning techniques. A "feeling positive" weekend. Thank you.
It was a pleasure to teach you and sister Geraldine over the two days. I love what I do and it is all worth while when I have lovely people who make my job a pleasure plus humour played a part or our days. You both made amazing pieces of work too-talented pair :-) along side Kate and Holly :-).
Wonderful course!! Had a lovely time, lovely place to work! Comfortable environment, great people and learnt so much! Really happy with my scarf can’t wait to wear it!! A lovely creative day, just what I needed! Lots of ideas, and laughs! I will be back!! Xxx

It was a pleasure to teach you Holly. Your nuno felted scarf is beautiful. Thank you for traveling such a distance to attend my felting day :-) .
I came to Barbara's workshop for the 2nd time with my sister. Although I had tried Nuno Felting before I had a lot to learn from Barbara. We had a fantastic day and I came home with the most beautiful scarf which has had rave reviews from people when I have worn it. My sister has been equally pleased. Not only did we learn we had lots of fun along the way
Thank you for your very encouraging review Edna :-)
Barbara is an excellent and very patient instructor. It was an enjoyable course and I was really pleased with the landscape felted picture I made. This was my first time doing wet felting. Highly recommended.
Thank you David, It was a pleasure to teach you. Barbara
Barbara's felt making courses are lots of fun and you have the opportunity to make something unique. And it's always interesting to see other people's creations! You don't have to be particularly arty or creative as Barbara offers lots of ideas and inspiration for your project.
Thank you Sophie for the encouraging review.
It was lovely teaching you and your Mum felted slipper making. I forwarded the leather sole information to you mum :-). Barbara
Today I completed my third felting course with Barbara. I just about had time to make 2 shoulder bags! I really enjoyed the day and, although I've done a felting course before, it was good to have Barbara's guidance and advice on techniques. I can highly recommend Feltworld courses - there's always a relaxed and friendly atmosphere - and you get to make something original to take home!
Thank you for writing the lovely, encouraging review Janis.
You picture and bag look wonderful, but you can still push the bag making up a level and put pockets in and on the front without any sewing :-)....maybe for a future course somewhere hot :-), or before you leave!
I really enjoyed our day two days. Bubble wrap and towels on the line now, ready for this saturdays class, where they will be making nuno felted scarves.
Fantastic course, with lots of options for what you make. We made felt slippers which look amazing and it was really interesting to see how you built them up.
Great instruction and a lovely way to spend a day.
Thank you for writing the lovely, encouraging review Anna.
Your slippers and mums bag look amazing. Well done for jumping in at the deep end lol.
I really enjoyed our day and maybe see you again to make another wonderful creation now you know what can be achieved with the fibres.

My husband and I both had a fabulous day with Barbara, making Nuno felt scarves....! My husband hadn't planned to come along - long story! - but was pleased he did. Barbara is a superb tutor - she inspires with lots of samples and ideas, and explains the process very clearly; she's very professional and very welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this course/workshop - if you're on your own, with a friend of in a group, I'm sure you'd have fun...and you get to leave with a stunning Nuno felt scarf, too!
Hi Bron. Thank you for your lovely and very encouraging review. At times this business can be difficult but I like you love to teach and inspire. Best wishes Barbara
Barbara is such an inspiring teacher/instructor....I have learned so much from her classes. She has given me the confidence to work with a mixture of Wool incorporating my Husky Wool. I have created 2 beautiful scarves that I will treasure and also created 2 wrist cuffs.
Thank You Barbara.....I will certainly do another class soon!!!
Hi Dawn, Thank you so much for you kind and very encouraging words. You brought something unique and very special into my world of woolly fibres with your beautiful husky fur. Your two nuno felted scarves are gorgeous.
I look forward to teaching you and encouraging new techniques in to your work.
Thank you so much Barbara for such an excellent course. It was extremely good of you to run the course just for me when the others dropped out - I really appreciated that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day - I started as a complete novice, feel I learned tons and actually left with a superb scarf that I am very proud of and shall definitely use! Following your excellent introduction to felting I have already ordered myself some supplies and am determined to experiment more with this fascinating craft. You not only explained how to felt but also gave me an insight into why.... Thank you very much again!
Today I completed my second wet felting class and thoroughly enjoyed it! I made a shoulder bag and was very happy with the finished product. Barbara is a great teacher and as well as giving very clear instructions, she has lots of examples and suggestions for whatever piece you are making. The classes are fun and very relaxed. I can highly recommend taking a wet felting course with Barbara and I look forward to taking another in the near future.
Thank you Barbara!
Thank you very much for your kind review Helen. I enjoyed our day too. You are the star who produced a fabulous piece of unique work :-). Best regards Barbara Meek
A really great course today. My first time at wet felting and I came home with a really nice unique nuno felted silk scarf - far better than I ever expected. The class was small and everyone received individual attention. I learnt a new skill from an expert. Barbara is very patient and makes everyone feel very relaxed. I would highly recommend this and any other course that Barbara runs, others on the day wet felted small hand bags which also looked fun
Thank you very much for your kind review Jayne. You are the star who produced a fabulous piece of unique work :-) and as a first time felter, your scarf is beautiful. Best regards Barbara Meek
Excellent day today, making a wet felted shoulder bag. I’m really pleased with the finished product. Barbara is a superb teacher, and has brilliant ideas. Classes are small, so that you get expert one-to-one tuition. This is the second class I have attended, I made a wet felted picture on the first occasion, again an enjoyable experience.
Thank you very much for your kind review, you are the star who produced a fabulous piece of unique work :-). Best regards Barbara Meek
Many thanks Barbara for an excellent day. Lots of helpful tips and a wonderful array of wools and silks to choose from. Students are very much encouraged to decide upon their own projects, so at any workshop everyone could be working on something different - an excellent way to see what the range of possibilities are and to get inspired!
Wonderful, friendly course, I have learnt great techniques and had a great day too. I am leaving with a beautiful, hanging piece of colourful art, that has been wet felted, Barbara is a great encourager as well as teacher!
I am an absolute beginner and just one day with Barbara and I've made a footstool I'm really pleased with. An interesting day learning a new technique and a wide choice of colours. Lovely lunch included makes for excellent value. Highly recommended!
Wonderful course using different felting techniques. Walking in as a total beginner and leaving, understanding how to complete wet and needle felting techniques.
A great way to spend a day, coming away with two beautiful pieces.
Attended Barbara's felting course today. I'm a complete novice and did not know what to expect. I was given a warm welcome on arrival and shown a variety of things to make. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm which helped me to create something which I am proud of. The process is fascinating. If you want to try something different I suggest that you give this a try. Expert tutition from a lovely lady. Thank you for an enjoyable day.
I did a day course with Barbara learning how to wet felt. I made a felt landscape picture. I had never done anything like this before but Barbara was lovely and welcoming and convinced me that I would leave at the end of the day with something to be proud of. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and loved the way the felt changed with each process , and yes, I am extremely proud of my very own work of art!
I have been on two of Barbara Meeks courses.....what an inspirational teacher/instructor. I have learned so much from Barbara and she has given me the confidence to work with and experiment with my own dogs Husky Wool using Wet Felting and Needle Felting techniques. I designed (with Barbaras help) a Nuno Scarf using my Husky Wool from each of my 12 Dogs.....just love it!!!!! I could not have achieved this without Barbaras clear teaching and instruction......EXCELLENT!!!!!!
Will certainly be attending more!!
I had the best time wet felting a landscape painting with felt. It was very therapeutic and with great results.
Barbara is a wonderful teacher, and took me through all the steps. I loved listening to her extensive knowledge of this craft. (especially about the Turkish Rug)
I attended a course on wet felting with my sister. We are both new to felting but with expert instruction from Barbara we both came away with amazing felted pictures. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in creating unique felt art in a friendly environment with an expert tutor.
I have never done anything like this before and was a little hesitant . I needn't have worried. The very patient Barbara ensured we were all fully trained at each stage and was happy to re-explain points when necessary. We had a good laugh whilst watching our scarfs appear before our very eyes. Barbara even provided a delicious lunch . I came away delighted with my creation and have given it as a present to another friend. She has decided to go on a course with Barbara as well . What a great day. Thank you Barbara
I had a very enjoyable day at the nuno felting scarf making course.
I was made to feel very welcome and was given all the expert step by step guidance I needed to make my first nuno scarf.
It made a wonderful gift to my mother.
Thank you Barbara.
A very enjoyable day indeed! Barbara is a great teacher, and her studio is an excellent place to work. She's got some wonderfully inspiring samples to show the range of effects you can achieve with Nuno felt... Very good value, too; I'm delighted with my scarf and plan to experiment further. Certainly I'd recommend this course to anyone!
great day produced a lovely scarf i leaned a lot as a nu-bee to felting i found it fascinating. i recommend the course to all . will try a cat cave or a small pot course before the year is out . Barbara do you do a cat cave course ???
I made a stunning piece of art work on this Nuno felting day with Barbara. It is being measured up to be framed to hang in my living room as it goes perfectly with everything.
I had an absolutely fabulous experience learning something new, the nuno process is just wow, how amazing it is to see the silk and wool react in such a way - beautiful. I'm afraid Barbara that I will be back for more. Fabulous teacher, so calm and explained everything in such detail in stages, and had a good sense of humour too.
Barbara combined giving you the freedom to use your own ideas, whilst guiding with confidence in the finished scarf as you really do not know how it is going to look by the end! As it happened I am delighted and thrilled with my piece. Barbara also provided a great introduction to various techniques and instilled a desire to carry on and learn more more more of this exciting skill. She ensures that the classes are relaxed, informative with lots of examples to inspire the imagination. I will definitly be back for another course and bring my friend and daughter next time...already purchased some birthday gift vouchers :-) Fiona x
I had a one to one lesson with Barbara so I had her full attention. I have limited use of one hand, but I am capable and with a little help with laying out the fibres from Barbara for an hour in the morning, I completed a beautiful delicate floral unique scarf or I may use it as a wall- hanging. Barbara is very patient, explains the processes in simple stages and a great teacher. She has many years experience and her rug which she made in Turkey is beautiful. Highly recommended.
My husband bought a place on this course feltmaking course as a Christmas present. We went to Stafford and made a weekend of it, hubby went to see his friend and I on my fabulous day with 3 other ladies. I loved it and I am hooked on feltmaking.
I was and still am absolutely amazed at how so very adaptable the fibres are maniputated just by using soap and water and a bit of rubbing that such beautiful pieces of art can be produced. I love my scarf - I could never buy one like it and I am so looking forward to my birthday gift voucher next month, the hints surely must have sunk in.
My friend and I have just been one a nuno felting scarf day with Feltworld and had a lovely relaxed day with Barbara, who is so experienced and answered our many questions as virgin felters lol. She put us at ease and explained with many stages and demonstrations which made it very easy to follow. Her work is so beautiful and textural.
We are delighted with our new creations and excited to wear them. I will also use mine as a hall table runner in the summer... I don't care I will show off lol.five
We have bought gift vouchers to attend another course for our birthday in July/August.
I really enjoyed my day at Barbara's felt scarf making course. It was my first time at wet feltmaking and it was brilliant. Barbara is a very experienced feltmaker/teacher, she talked us through each stage, step by step, I think that we were all amazed at how the felt gripped through the silk scarf and crinkled it up to create a beautiful texture. I love my scarf and wear it a lot, many people have commented on it too :-).
