In the relaxed atmosphere of Hare Hill Barn, this practical two-day beginner’s course is a great introduction to the wonderful craft of stained glass. Guided by Nikki Clark, stained glass artist, you will learn the necessary steps and techniques involved in making a small 21 x 26cm stained glass panel; from design ideas, choosing and cutting glass, leading up, soldering and finally how to clean your panel ready to be hung in your home. There will also be an opportunity to find out more about stained glass as an art form, how it is used to enhance the spaces we live in today and helpful tips on how to continue making stained glass at home.
Your tutor, Nikki, has her own studio at her home in Gilcrux, West Cumbria and has over 20 years’ experience in designing and making beautiful stained glass. She also enjoys glass fusing and foiling, often incorporating these elements into her work, exploring texture, colour and light, and, apart from her own work, has completed several restoration projects for clients.
Accreditation: HND Architectural Stained Glass, West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education, Swansea (now the University of Wales Trinity St David).
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All essential tools and equipment are provided but there will be an additional £30 materials cost payable directly to Nikki at the start of the course. This covers the cost of glass, lead etc and a protective mask etc.
A choice of prepared designs will be provided. Bring a notebook or sketchpad to jot down notes and ideas, and glasses if you use them for close work. Please wear old clothes, and bring an apron and sturdy boots to work in (walking boots or steel-toed safety boots – NO OPEN TOED SANDALS OR SOFT SHOES).
An additional Health and Safety briefing will be given at the start of the course and the use of safety equipment is required. Lead, solder and the fumes are toxic substances to handle and breath in. Please note we are unable to offer this course to pregnant women or nursing mothers.
This is a small class limited to 4 people to ensure each student receives individual attention.
A two-course lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout each day including homemade cakes.
