This two-day introduction to the traditional method of stained glass construction will give you an insight into this ancient craft that dates back hundreds of years.
There will be plenty of hands-on experience and you will be able to make either a traditional panel or put your own contemporary twist on this ancient craft. You will be fully guided through the process and given lots of tips, tricks and insight and appreciation of stained glass window making.
By the end of the course you'll make a stained glass panel to take home, which you can put in your garden, or display indoors! This class is suitable for complete beginners.
You will be introduced to all the key techniques and tools used in the traditional method of constructing stained glass using lead came.
The course will start with an introduction to the art of stained glass, the design and how we ‘paint with light’ and the equipment and tools used to do this. We will quickly move on to the practical aspect by demonstrating how we score and break glass. This will be followed by practise cutting glass to a design until you're ready to start cutting the coloured glass for your main project.
You can either use one of the designs provided or bring along a design of your own (only recommended if you have prior experience).
There will be a full demonstration the process of constructing a panel using the leading method at each stage and we will discuss the tools and techniques being used.
Work will be focussed on building and finishing your stained-glass panel by leading, soldering and cementing your design piece which you'll finish in time to take home.

Really enjoyed the 2 day course
Jo was really great at explaining the techniques & giving the background details about the craft
She has great knowledge about the history of the craft & it was so good to have this explained as we progressed through the process
Response from Stanwick Lakes art and craft courses:Thank you so much for your review and we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the course.
A great experience with a helpful, personable and knowledgeable tutor in a pleasant setting.
The materials and equipment were of good quality and sufficient quantity that there were few occasions when anyone had to wait. My fellow students were very friendly which made for a very enjoyable couple of days. As a bonus, I ended up with a small pane of which I am disproportionately proud
Response from Stanwick Lakes art and craft courses:Thank you for your wonderful review. We are so pleased you enjoyed the course and glad that you feel proud of your creation!
I found the two day Stained Glass course extremely satisfying. Having reached retirement, I wanted to try something I had never experienced, and new little about, other than observing the process occasionally on TV or YouTube. I wanted to see if this was the kind of hobby I might like to pursue in my latter years.
The course was excellent, all the required tools were supplied as were all the materials, complete with a selection of design guides to enable me to create a sample 'masterpiece'. Step by step throughout the course the help and guidance from highly experienced Jo the tutor was first class and beyond my expectations. Keeping the course to only a few people meant the one to one tutorial was extra useful in the creating and learning process.
I'm now the owner of a piece of leaded glass I created during the two days, it may not be a masterpiece or be big enough to adorn a Cathedral window, but during the process of the two days I have cut glass, mitred lead, soldered, cemented and polished my little masterpiece which I'm informed could last over a hundred years! - Now which member of my family should I leave it to.....
Response from Stanwick Lakes art and craft courses:Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thorough and positive review. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the course and we hope your masterpiece is admired by all who see it!
