Raku Pottery - Tea Bowl & Japanese Inspired Lunch

X

Description

Begin by selecting a bowl, then explore a range of expressive glazing techniques that blend traditional Raku practices with Andy’s own creative approach. After glazing, the thrill begins — your piece will undergo a rapid, dramatic kiln firing, where flame, smoke, and chance work together to reveal a bowl unlike any other. To celebrate the moment, you’ll enjoy a Japanese-inspired stir-fry meal served in your newly fired vessel — a beautiful and meaningful way to experience your creation in use. The flavours and warmth of the meal will keep your energy lifted, making for a memorable pause in the day. During lunch, Andy will offer a brief demonstration of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, adding cultural depth and a contemplative note to the experience. In the afternoon, you’ll return to the studio to glaze and fire a second piece, allowing you to expand your technique and further explore the enchanting world of Raku. Workshop leader Andy Mason has developed his technical skills and knowledge over many years, sharing his enthusiasm and insight into the ancient rituals and contemporary practice of Raku, and its further practical application. Introduction to Intermediate level. No previous experience required, just an interest and willingness to participate, and soak up the energy, art, and alchemy of Raku! Three (biscuit fired) pots provided for each participant.
