Description

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE BOOKING -The class on 21st April 2024 is an experienced student only class!!! Sorry no absolute beginners on that date. Come and spend an amazing day with experienced Glass Artist Matthew Le Breton in a friendly studio environement. Stained glass is an amazing craft, colourful, decorative and adaptable to many different forms. This course is student-led, encouraging you to pursue the area of your interest. The course includes both "Tiffany" copper foiling and leaded styles. There is also the provision on some dates for doing kiln-fired glass painting, silver staining and enamelling. You can create panels, lamps, clocks, mirrors, hanging pieces or set the glass into a display stand. Bring your own ideas! You can contact to discuss by email the practicality of attempting a particular piece before the class. To make your booking click 'See available dates' or ask for more information please click on the 'message the tutor' below. The classes normally take place on the last weekend of each month, sat or sun (however family/private groups can be arranged on a convenient day, be it weekend or weekday please see my other listing for private classes). The numbers are limited and classes fill up quickly so get in touch to book your place. These leisure-based courses are run in the newly established Devon Applied Arts Workshop ("DAA Workshop" for short!) between Exeter and Tiverton. Set in rolling fields, the space is disabled access friendly. There are tea making facilities and toilets although you will need to bring your own packed lunch. If you are counting yourself as a returner to the craft then please get in touch via messaging to confirm what skill level you have prior to booking. It helps me to manage the classes. Classes continue third weekend of each month throughout 2023. Dates will be made available for the 2nd Half of 2023 year booking in due course. Note that I run other private weekend and weekday classes on an on-demand basis. Check my other listing on this craft courses site for these private classes ('More from this Maker' button below). If you wish to book as a present for a loved one please message me to check on the availability of dates prior to any booking or voucher purchase.

What's included in the price?

Course fee of £130 covers a one day class. (£105 for a child attending with a full paying adult - please message me for booking options to book a child's place). Materials for a piece around A4 size and tools are provided (additional charge may be made for larger projects, or special materials but can be discussed fully in advance). Many Students choose to become returners if they have a larger project to work on or want to continue with the craft. If this is of interest to you please enquire when you have made your booking. Wear warm "workshop" clothes, no fluffy jumpers (tend to catch fragments). No open-toed sandals or shoes. The course is not suitable for pregnant women or for students who are not capable of following the safety and instruction guidance. If you already have tools from doing glass classes previously please mark them in some way before bringing them. It can be a good idea to bring a board or something to take your piece home on/in. Also, a toolbox/plastic box/large Tupperware box is a good idea to keep any glass pieces safe if you are planning to attend a number of classes. Tea and coffee are provided but if you prefer do bring your own thermos flask. Please also bring your own packed lunch. Children aged 9-16yrs can attend with an adult at a reduced price of £105 Due to the care needed when handling lead (particularly for children), I have specific arrangements and procedures in place to ensure full safety at all times.

Maker

I work as a teacher and artisan both in stained glass and traditional buiding techniques. After a Fine Art degree I first started stained glass myself in 2002 as an evening class and never looked back. I have a passion for traditional crafts and I enjoy being able to bring enthusiam and energy to teaching others. The glass courses I run at our purpose built applied arts workshop are designed to give students the chance to develop their own ideas and it is amazing what gets produced.

Yes, The initial instruction session is done in a group around a presentation table. So nice and close and easy to hear, or lip reread. The teaching is then done by the tutor circulating around the students and guiding them individually so no need to try to hear from a distance. There are "toolbox" talks throughout, where everyone is gathered in again to see a particular process. Apparently I have a very clear loud voice!!!
