! Not suitable for children or pregnant women !

The course is taught in a small dedicated stained glass studio, at our rural home, all the tools and materials are provided to learn the basic skills of stained glass so that by the end you will have created a small panel from a template to keep. You will learn something of the history of the technique, and Iain will be on hand throughout to help you. As well as your panel, you will leave with hand-outs providing information should you want to continue this wonderful hobby.

Stained glass is the technique you see in many front doors, hallways, and churches, with lead strips forming the join between different pieces of glass. If you want eventually to make a front door panel or window, or just a nice small panel on the day that can hang inside a window, this is the course for you.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Everything to make your panel is provided, including all materials, and use of tools.
Drinks are provided through the day, just bring a packed lunch, closed-toe shoes, an apron or clothes you don't mind getting messy, and your enthusiasm!

Want to review this course?

A fun and informative course where you get to make your own piece of stained glass to take home. Whilst you have a choice of designs to follow, you can bring through your own creativity and uniqueness with a choice of different glass types and a range of colours to make your design. I didn’t have any knowledge of the processes beforehand but Ian explains everything and shares some interesting history of the origins of stained glass.

Having expressed an interest in ‘having a go’ at at a stained glass workshop this starter course was booked by my daughter & partner as a birthday present for myself and husband. Iain is an excellent course leader. He started with a short introduction on stained glass in general and demonstrated the use of various tools and equipment before we commenced on our individual glass panels. With three persons on the course Iain was on hand to offer advice and assist as and when required. The whole day was so interesting the time whizzed by. We both thoroughly enjoyed the course and were very pleased with the resulting stained glass panels which have been much admired by family and friends. Would highly recommend.

Response from Blue Kite Stained Glass:

thanks Christine, so glad you both enjoyed it.

Treated myself to Ian's stained glass course and I am so pleased that I did.
Had never cut glass or had any experience in soldiering before but Ian was always there to help.
Was a fun day with good company. I took home my creation of the day.. a sun catcher to show my skills.
Learnt the names of the traditional tools and would love to build on this experience.
The only problem is the day went so fast.
I would 100% recommend this course.

Enjoyed a fabulous day with my husband at Iain’s workshop, learning through fun and laughter with concentration combined. When you think he’s just drinking his tea, Iain is paying close attention to everyone and everything that’s going on and close to hand for the challenging questions he must have been asked hundreds of time already.
Already thinking of designs we could possibly bring to life with another visit......... sorry Iain 😁
Definitely a course to recommend to friends and family as there’s something for everyone to enjoy

Response from Blue Kite Stained Glass:

Thanks Gaye, hope you and Nick's panels are proudly hanging somewhere, excellent work!

I had a really excellent day yesterday attending Iain's stained glass course. From start to finish Iain gave myself and another 'student' his undivided attention. We learnt all the stages of making a stained glass panel and were also provided with useful written information to take home. I made a really lovely 20cm square panel which now hangs at my living room window. Hope to maybe take this up as a new hobby in the winter, when the lawn doesn't need cutting all the time!
Thank you Iain for such an enjoyable and informative day.

My husband and I spent an enjoyable time on Saturday with Iain learning how to cut glass, shape lead and solder. We came away with two lovely panels which look great. Iain is a relaxed teacher who supports you, whilst letting you learn by doing it yourself. This course is great value for money too. I've recommended it already to several friends.

Iain was brilliant, a great day and with no knowledge at the start went away with something worth showing people. Really enjoyable and the day was laid perfectly with the right amount of instruction. Would (and have) recommend it to anyone.

Thanks Kevin, glad you enjoyed it!

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our day with Iain . He is an excellent teacher and guided us through each stage of making a little stained glass 'window' . We are delighted with the end results and we are very eager to learn more about this craft from Iain, if he decides to run other courses.

Thanks Pam, glad you enjoyed it, and yes, the cogs are turning for some sort of follow-up course before too long. If one of you wants to join my mailing list at (eNews button top right) - that way I can make sure you hear the news first!

Thanks to Iain's expert guidance, tuition skills and patience I created my first piece of lead stained glass, which I am pleased to say that I am very proud of!
The day was a thoroughly informative, relaxed and interesting introduction to the many skills required to make a leaded stained glass panel.
I enjoyed the day and had a fantastic experience.

I attended this course with a friend in April 2018. It was her retirement present and what a fantastic day we had.
The course is really enjoyable and everything is explained and demonstrated brilliantly. The small class size allows time to be spent with each individual as needed. The finished product is lovely and although we over ran, we didn’t feel rushed and our window/sample was finished on the day!

A wonderful experience that I would HIGHLY recommended.

A wonderful way to spend a day - creating a beautiful, colourful and professional looking panel to take home and hang in a window. I am very pleased with my panel and it is already in a window shining splashes of colour on my room!
Iain is helpul and informative and guides you through the different processes involved with patience and a smile.
Excellent value and a great experience!

Response from Blue Kite Stained Glass:

Thanks Clare, glad you enjoyed it, you all produced great work, well done!

I had an excellent day with Iain. It was a gift from my husband for a special birthday. I have always been interested in glass and Iain was very informative so I learnt a lot. Many things that I had not thought about before. I will now look at a pieces of stained glass with new eyes, not only recognising their beauty but also really appreciating the amount of work that goes into them. Iain is a great tutor and very patient. I would highly recommend this course.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day learning to make stained glass. Iain is very patient & knowledgeable. I was with the previous reviewer and her husband I totally agree with her comments. I feel confident enough to be able to start doing this as a hobby! Thanks for a brilliant day.

I booked this course for me and my husband to have a taster into Stained Glass. Ian was very informative and made the day relaxing and fun. We both learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the day and would highly recommend it. The course was easy to book, and Ian provided a good amount of detail prior. The course only involves a maximum of 3 people so you have Ian's attention and help to guide you through the day and we were both pleasantly surprised at the item we both made. Well worth the money.
