About the Course
This is a 6 hour course to learn the basics of copperfoiling stained glass. You will be shown how to cut glass, design a small panel and make it in the time permitted, although experience is showing that if you want to design and make a panel of your choice, then the course often runs over 1-2 hours. If you want to be able to go home on time, then use the patterns I provide which can be made in the allotted time.
Copperfoiling usually entails, cutting pieces of coloured sheet glass to the shapes required in your pattern (cartoon). You will then grind the edges to make them smooth, cover each piece of coloured glass with copper foil and burnish it. You will place the pieces on your pattern and pin them so they are held in place. You will then have to solder the pieces together using lead solder. Clean the panel and then polish. You should be able to make a small panel or mirror in the time permitted, provided your design does not include too many pieces and of course how well you get on with cutting glass. If this proves difficult I will obviously help you.
If your ideal project is large, but you really want to make it, then please forward me what you'd like to make and I will work out how much time it will probably take and the additional costs. I do not mind doing a two day course for this purpose, but obviously the course fee will be more too! I have found most of my students enjoy making something they really want and I am very happy to help them make it. Copperfoiling is very time consuming and beginner's do not realise that you have to learn to cut proficiently to do complicated patterns, also if cuttings skills are not quite there, all pieces will need to be ground on a glass grinder, then cleaned, copperfoiled, assembled and then soldered both sides. However, if you do struggle I am there to assist you complete your project.
The Course will begin at 9.30 - 4.30 with half hour for lunch if required. You can bring a packed lunch or there are public houses or cafes very close to the studio.

The workshop was a gift from my brother. We both attended and made our own individual pieces. He designed his own holly leaf wreath and I designed a square mirror.
We gave Ros a rough idea in advance what we've like to create and the colours and she had these colours available to view when deciding on final piece.
Ros was both patient and supportive with us both, and offered assistance without taking over our work. Our session over ran, this did not bother us as we were just eager to finish our pieces and take them home to show them off.
My hobbies are craft based. This was so much different but lovely to learn a new skill. I'd like to return one day maybe once I have my own house to create a unique piece.
I would highly recommend Ros, she has all the time in the world to support you from beginning to end. A long but thoroughly enjoyable day. Thank you

Attended this course for my 40th birthday as a present from my husband which was arranged at very short notice, but Roz was very accommodating.
I learnt how to cut glass, straight and curvy lines and we discussed what I was going to make after showing me some designs. I decided I would like to make a window panel landscape and she showed me the glass in sheets in the colours I wanted. We designed a simple landscape pattern together and as this was going to be in a window I chose see through glass. The copperfoiling was fiddly, but soon got the hang of it and loved the look of it before soldering when it was pinned to a board. I then soldered it and wow I am so pleased I did this. I cannot draw or paint, but this has come out beautiful. Roz said she'd put a photo on her facebook page soon. I did run over time, but she did not rush me at all. I enjoyed all aspects of the course and was amazed by the different types of glass you can buy such pretty glass.
I would totally recommended Roz as a friendly and approachable tutor who showed me clearly what to do. Loved the cookies too Roz as I ate most of them. Thank you.
