Introduction to copper foiling workshop



The copper foiling technique, developed in the Tiffany Studios in the 1890s, is ideal for decorative panels, sun catchers and mirrors. Copper tape and solder are used to create a seam to join pieces of glass. In this introductory workshop have a fun day learning how to make decorative sun-catchers using the copper-foiling technique. The workshop is in a friendly studio within AWOL studios, Hope Mill, a grade 2 listed building. * During the workshop, you will produce a small decorative sun-catcher to take home. * You will learn how to: cut glass safely and competently, grind glass, apply copper foil and solder, using a variety of coloured and textured glass. *There are patters that you can work from or develop your own idea under the guidance of the tutor, Sharon. Workshop is limited to 4 people, allowing plenty of time with the tutor. The studio is in a central location in Manchester city, with parking and good public transport.

What's included in the price?

Within a fully equipped studio, all materials, tools, safety goggles and an apron, are included, along with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. 6 hours of tuition with a maximum of 4 students, so everyone has lots of support and help.

Ever fancied making a stained glass panel, or a copper foiled glass sun catcher, creating your own projects with beautiful glass full of light and colour. Sharon runs classes in a relaxed encouraging atmosphere, in her studio using a colourful selection of glass. The classes are structured to give tuition and allow people time to work at their pace and be creative, whilst learning all the practical skills needed to make a panel or sun catcher.
