About the Course

The copper foiling technique, developed in the Tiffany Studios in the 1890s, is ideal for decorative panels, sun catchers and mirrors as well as lampshades and other dimensional work. Copper tape and solder are used to create a seam joining the pieces of glass.

In this introductory workshop learn how to make a decorative sun-catcher using the copper-foiling technique. You will learn to cut glass safely and competently, grind glass, copper foil and how to solder, using a variety of coloured and textured glass.

At the end of the workshop you will produced a small decorative sun-catcher to take home.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

A really lovely course - warm, friendly and welcoming! Nice relaxed pace but packed with advice, useful info and guidance, Sharon is very supportive and knowledgable. I really liked the format of the day, starting with safety advice and a practice piece, before being able to be creative and make your own piece or use a myriad of design ideas. Very good value for money and a rewarding day, will definitely be visiting again! Thank you!

Response from Manchester Stained Glass:

Thank you Fiona, a lovely review, I'm very glad you found the studio friendly and welcoming and yet with enough support and advice to be able to have a go at home. You would be very welcome back. Sharon :)

This is the second course I have taken with the same tutor. So I came to this with a working knowledge of stained glass. But still it was engaging and informative. It started with the basics and at by the end of the session we had completed a nice little sun catcher. It wasn’t prescriptive so we have the option to make something we designed ourselves. It was a great course with a great tutor.

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for your review, I am very glad you enjoyed the being in the studio and found the course helpful.
It was great to meet you too. Sharon :)

This is second course that I attended with Sharon, and it was also planned out in logical way. It was limited to 4 places (all of Sharon’s course are limited to 4 places) so that the students could progress at their own pace, giving them the confidence to complete their final piece. Sharon was always on hand to offer help, support and advice [as well as tea, coffee and biscuits). The structure of the course was well balanced, with a mixture of different age groups.
Sharon promotes a friendly and relaxed environment and I would highly recommended this course and the stained glass course which I also attended.
