Course Start DatesSaturday 25th January 2020
About the Course
Fusing with Float Glass - a one day course. This course is an introduction to fusing with float glass. It’s suitable for complete beginners as well as those with a little knowledge.
Your day with us starts just before 10.00 with coffee and some introductions, followed by some brief but essential health and safety.
We’ll then give you some basic theory to get you going and then we’ll experiment with inclusions of metals, crushed coloured glass and many other materials between layers of plain glass. As the day progresses we’ll have short teaching sessions and more raw materials to use. Later we’ll fire your work in our kilns at 820C. This is lots of fun and often produces some quite unexpected results – the process is not without some alchemy!
During the day we will be on hand to give as much help as you need. There is a possibility for you each to put a small piece into our test kiln which we will fire on a short cycle during the day to help you to envisage the results possible from kiln firing. We believe this to be a unique opportunity not usually available on glass fusing courses. By the end of the day you will have made some small glass panels, hangings, and bowls ready for firing and normally available within a week.
Our studio facilities are excellent and our teaching environment is relaxed, friendly and informal – as well as benefiting from beautiful views over ancient meadow land!
Any questions feel free to contact us via the form above – we’re very friendly!

I did this course with my two teenagers after checking it was suitable. I've done lots of craft courses before, but this was the first time they had accompanied me. They had a great day, and came away excited about their creations and what they had learned - in fact my 14 year old son, who is hard to get through to at times, told me spontaneously in the car on the way home that this course had been 'one of the best things I've done in my life'! The craft was well explained and there were plenty of supplies for us to dabble with when trying the new techniques. The only possible negative is that the space is really very small, and although there were only 5 participants (and we were told this was a 'small group') we were quite crowded and often on top of each other. A plentiful supply of drinks and biscuits sealed the deal as far as the kids were concerned! You come away with a small glass square that has been fired during the day, which is an excellent idea - the rest needs to be collected after a few weeks, or can be sent on. We would definitely recommend this course.
