Description

A fun and relaxed half-day workshop to make beautiful glass ‘suncatchers’, using the basics of the Tiffany copper foil technique. On this half-day workshop, you have the opportunity to make a range of designs on different dates throughout the year. On each course you will be guided through the process starting with learning to cut glass, using the copper foil, soldering and constructing these attractive sun catchers, ready to take home on the day. There is enough time to make two items during the workshop. This course is limited to just six participants. Your tutor for the day is Jo Turner who has many years of experience making and teaching. (Jo also offers a beginners’ two-day stained-glass course available at various weekends during the year at Stanwick Lakes.) Dates and designs (please see photographs): Friday 10th March – Flower Power Saturday 15th April / Sunday 16th April – Groovy Birds Friday 12th May – Butterflies and Bees Butterflies Friday 15th September – Leaves and Mushrooms Friday 8th/Saturday 9th/ Sunday 10th December - Angels, Christmas trees, puddings and mistletoe decorations * Please note that solder contains lead, therefore, this course is not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please wear covered shoes. No previous experience is necessary. The course will take place in our training barn at Stanwick Lakes, a beautiful 750-acre nature reserve and visitor attraction in the heart of Northamptonshire’s Nene Valley.

What's included in the price?

Tools, materials and safety equipment are provided. Basic tea /coffee and biscuits are provided free of charge during the course. Food and drinks can be purchased in the café in the visitor centre or bring your own packed lunch. Car parking is also free of charge on the day of your course.

"Jo is very patient and the day was so relaxing. It was a lovely group of 6 ladies I’d never met before and it was really enjoyable to learn the basics of copper foiling, and you get to take whatever you create home too. Only thing I will say regarding the lunch break - the kitchen should pre order the food, by the time the jacket potatoes and paninis had come out it was actually time to go back in for the afternoon session. Not a reflection on the actual course though which is great. "
