"Lovely morning spent at Jo's class. I was nervous to try something new but Jo made me feel at ease, explained the process well and supplied a fantastic range of wools for us to use. It was extremely enjoyable to come away with a finished piece that I created and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the variation of work around the table. Currently awaiting delivery of supplies to carry on this relaxing and rewarding hobby at home. Thanks Jo!"

"Had a great day painting with wool! Love my poppy field. Thanks so much Raya! I strongly recommend this session, I’m not the most creative person and I came out of the session with a picture I can proudly hang in my house. Great day, great food (at Bevere Cafe) and a fantastically patient instructor. Denise"

"A fantastic day spent with a lovely bunch of people in beautiful surroundings, with delicious home-cooked food. Ade is a fantastic teacher, with a huge amount of patience (even for lefties!). It was fascinating to get to understand the process of carving and to watch an expert do it. The course content was ideal and it was great to come away from the day with an actual spoon. Thanks Ade!"

It is a wonderful place to let your creativity take flight with the steadying hands and guidance of the ever present friendly professional potters to teach, advise and encourage. With this very well equipped studio and the friendly and creative atmosphere I cannot recommend The Clay Studio more highly to both beginners and more experienced potters. Wicky"

Shirley Goodyer reviewed: Needlefelting workshop at Dalkeith Country Park

"Very enjoyable felting workshop at Dalkeith Country Park. Good venue. Jo was very friendly and the course was a great introduction to needle felting with an excellent range of materials available. It was very satisfying to be able to produce something worth framing in just 3 hours! The only significant disappointment was that there were no original examples of Jo's work to view; I had very much been looking forward to seeing these and I am sure they would have been inspirational."

Carol Lindstedt reviewed: Introduction to millinery - making a petal fascinator - NE67

"My daughter bought me this course as a Christmas present and I have to say, it was as perfect as a present could be! I really enjoyed making my fascinator. Margaret provided all of the materials and there was plenty of time to complete the task. It was so lovely to wear my fascinator whilst enjoying my afternoon tea too! Excellent course and a fabulous course leader. Five stars!!"

Margaret Woodliff Wright Millinery responded:

"Thank you Carol for your review of the petal fascinator course - it was a pleasure to meet you & your daughter at The Bowes Museum for the afternoon workshop. What a great idea for a very individual mother/daugher Christmas present - the gift of a voucher to cover attendance at one of my courses! The petal workshop is infact a straightforward introduction to recreational millinery and through it, students find it is possible to produce quite impressive results. I look forward to seeing pictures of you and your daughter on an outing wearing your headpieces, in the meantime thank you for your review! All nest wishes - Margaret"

Kayleigh Lindstedt reviewed: Introduction to millinery - making a petal fascinator - NE67

"I took part in the course when Margaret ran it at the Bowes museum. Fabulous course, I loved making my own fascinator! Margaret was very patient, as I’m not a very good sewer! Was really pleased with the end result and enjoyed my cream tea too! Would definitely recommend this course, especially for beginners!"

Margaret Woodliff Wright Millinery responded:

"Thank you Kayleigh, for your review of the petal recreational fascinator course. The great thing about this course is that it is suitable for complete and utter beginners - even those with very limited sewing experience can produce a very pretty headpiece during the afternoon. As such it the workshop would present a great “bonding” opportunity - such as a hen party, pre-prom, works’ do, etc.. Whether or not a cream tea is included depends on the location - this particular course was held at The Bowes Museum, and so was rounded off with a cream tea, and as it said in your review Kayleigh, this makes for a very satisying afternoon, all round. Thank you again for your lovely review of the petal fasciantor class, Kayleigh - Margaret"

"A wonderful days outdoor woodworking in a gorgeous setting with a really great teacher. Tom talked us through all aspects of the highland cup making. There was a great balance between demonstrating the techniques and space to try them out. It was great to be away from everything in the woods for a day. And to come home with a beautiful functional cup at the end of it. I would highly recommend this course."

Wooden Tom responded:

Sharon Leeson reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

Caron Newman reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

"Thoroughly enjoyed this course. As a complete beginner whose attempts at using a drop spindle had failed miserably in the past I wanted to see if expert tuition could bring out the Spinner in me and I wasn’t disappointed. Elaine was patient and excellent at explaining the basic principles of spinning right from the very beginning. All aspects were covered - the different properties of various fleeces, how fibre reacts as it does to the spinning process, what to look for in a fleece if you want to prepare it for spinning etc. The day flew by, made to feel very welcome by Elaine and her husband and only 3 participants on the course means you get individual attention whatever your skill level. It was a real treat to use the Haldane wheel and Elaine can give plenty of advice on different types of wheel if you are considering buying your own. I left at the end of the day with two more than passable skeins of wool and an urge to dive into the world of spinning equipped with the basics to practice and develop my skills. Would highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to try the craft, whether or not they think they will go on to purchase their own wheel in the future."

Kerry Ballard reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

"Hi Elaine, thank you soooo much for today, it was absolutely brilliant, I have learnt loads. You are a fantastic teacher and VERY patient with us. Also very generous with both your wool and your knowledge. Wow, what a skill you have to spin such beautifully even and fantastic yarns, I now know how incredibly hard that is, so it was a real treat to see your work. Thank you again, brilliant course, enjoyed every minute. Kerry P.s. I think you should charge more for what you give."
