About the artist
Laura has previously worked as an illustrator and now focuses on fine art and painting - specialising in still life and wildlife art. Last year one of Laura's paintings was selected for the Society of Wildlife Artists' annual exhibition in Mall Galleries, London, and this year another painting has been shortlisted in the David Shepherd 'Wildlife Artist of the Year 2019' competition, also being exhibited in London. Her light and airy studio is situated on the first floor of 'The Old Vicarage' which overlooks Lincoln's award winning arboretum.

My husband bought me a course for my birthday - I've been along this week and absolutely loved it! Laura's studio is a delight - open, airy, full of artist's 'stuff' which makes it a joy to wander around and explore, and provides plenty of inspiration. I was a complete beginner, and a little nervous, but Laura put me at ease and she paced the day nicely so that I was able to progress at my own speed and grow in confidence over the day. A small group meant she was around and able to provide plenty of attention and help.
Refreshments and lunch are provided - beautiful home made sandwiches and cakes, and plenty of tea! I left the day with a painting that I am quite frankly astounded by - as a complete beginner, I never dreamed the end result would be so successful. I am now inspired to carry on at home and plan on getting myself some materials to experiment with. I'd heartedly recommend this course to anyone - it's a real treat :)

My wife bought me a place on one of Laura Andrew's Saturday courses for my birthday. I had done some painting since my retirement, and had been on some art courses, but it was very interesting to get some input from a different artist. Laura was very welcoming, provided an excellent lunch, and, more importantly, showed me how to approach painting from a new and refreshing angle. She showed me how to look at the subject in a way I hadn't used before, and how to see colour in deep shadow. She provided the flowers, etc, to create a still life, the canvas, and the paints - water soluble oil paints by Winsor and Newton, which I hadn't used before, on this occasion. When I was clearly coping with the subject, she left me to it, but when she saw that I needed help, she provided it. All in all, I had a very enjoyable day, I learnt a lot, and I would certainly recommend her courses, both to a complete novice, and to someone like myself who had already done a fair bit of painting.

So enjoyed every moment at Laura’s studio, there was a warm welcome on arrival and her warmth and encouragement never wavered throughout the quickest day I have known, ending with a picture we were all proud to take home. Thank you so much you have made me love oils now I know where to go with them!
Would love to do it all again and soon.

I recently attended one of Laura's 1-2-1 oil painting workshops and this was my first attempt at oil painting. I was attracted by the style of one of Laura's floral paintings on her website and, with her support and encouragement, I finished the day by creating an oil painting in a style that was completely different from anything I had created before. Laura's insight into the use of adventurous colour was a revelation and she has given me the confidence to be more experimental in developing the loose style that I want to achieve.
Laura's workshop surpassed my hopes and expectations and I would recommend a workshop with Laura to anyone who wants to develop confidence and try something new in their painting. It was a joy to paint in a beautiful studio with great company and a delicious lunch. I have every intention of attending more of Laura's workshops.

Having not picked up a paint brush for over 30 years, my confidence wasn't at its best when I first contacted Laura about attending one of her classes however, Laura put me at ease immediately and reassured me this was a class for all levels. I was met with a warm welcome from Laura who not only is an extremely talented and accomplished artist, but is the lovliest person, making sure all your needs are met from the lunch and refreshments she provides, to that of my painting needs for the day. I was very keen to learn a new style of painting and having enjoyed using oils as a youngster, decided impressionistic approach was my way forward for the day. Laura was the best teacher I could have hoped for, she was imformative whilst being very supportive and encouraging with her sensitive and positive approach. I had the added bonus that I had a one to one class with laura and felt very privaleged for this very special time she gave me. Laura is a very generous teacher and had a genuine desire that I felt pleased with my achievements, which I was. I would highly reccomend attending one of Laura's classes in her beautiful studio with the gorgeous views over the park and cathedral. I will be attending another one of Laura's classes in the near future.

I had a lovely creative day at the oil & acrylic painting workshop - Laura was very welcoming, friendly and a brilliant tutor - she was always available to give guidance but allowing us freedom too. Laura had prepared various still life setups for us in her gorgeous studio and went through the great range of materials available to us. It was a treat to see Laura's art and to paint in such a calm & beautiful spot overlooking the park. Lunch was great and I really appreciated Laura providing vegan/gluten free options for me. I was travelling by train so Laura offered to post my painting which was very kind; she also followed the course up with useful feedback and details on materials. I came away with a painting I'm proud of but most importantly the course inspired me to get painting again! Thank you Laura!

The Painting Day was a great experience in the lovely art studio setting.
Laura's expertise and encouragement meant that everyone produced a painting and learnt a lot along the way.
I have been inspired to continue with art and drawing and would highly recommend the course.

So far, I have attended three of these oil painting days with Laura. I have encouraged friends, my daughter and my Mum to experience such days with Laura. My repeat attendance is probably sufficient testimony to the quality of the Oil Painting Day experience!
It is so much more that simply coming away with a painting. Laura crafts the day to build your confidence, a-tune your eye and flex those artist muscles you never knew you had.
Throughout the day, Laura shows her uncanny intuition by stepping in to support you just at the moments when you can't fathom how to make the right shade of green or capture the shape of a petal.
An added bonus is the camaraderie that develops ing the studio as we all do joyous battle with our respective canvases.
I heartily recommend everyone to join Laura Andrew in her Art Studio and discover your inner artist!

Laura demonstrated the basics of drawing and colour to give us the tools (and confidence) to progress to our painting. A lovely lunch was provided, all of this in Laura's beautiful home and artists studio.
