Paint a head portrait over two days. Day 1 will be an introduction and general overview to portrait painting. We will start by creating a monochrome or grisaille under painting to explore form through shade and tonal values.
DAY TWO
In day two we will add colour. Exploring how colour theory can help you develop your painting by looking at primary and tertiary colours.
We shall be working from photographs - a subject of your own choosing. It is imperative that you take the photo, preferably someone you know or someone you find interesting. No flash!
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
For £20 I can include all materials. Refreshments provided.

I applied to join this course with uncertainty as I was almost a total beginner in the art of drawing and painting. Over the course of the two days Karl spent time explaining step by step the whole process but also allowing you to experiment . I would never have imagined that I could have completed a portrait of my partner which was so like her.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 days and will definitely return for another weekend .
Thank you Karl
Really enjoyed the two days - only 3 'pupils' (it takes place in Karls studio) so lot of one-to-one guidance. Karl is also painting one of his own portraits from scratch so you can really see what he is reaching in action. Lovely atmosphere. Would do another workshop with him and recommend it.
I really enjoyed spending a couple of days in the studio learning oil painting techniques with Karl. I had never used oils before so was a little apprehensive but Karl was extremely patient and calm, which made me feel relaxed enough to experiment. He explained how to use oil paints, the techniques he uses and how to mix colours. It was so helpful to see how he paints by watching his demonstrations. This workshop has given me the confidence to give oil painting a go at home and I would highly recommend it.
