Painting Workshops in West Pembrokeshire with Kate Freeman

Mark making

Held in my spacious converted barn studio, these small-group sessions are suitable for complete beginners as well as artists who wish to paint in a more free, spontaneous way.

Using water-based and acrylic media, I have developed a series of fun classes exploring fundamental aspects of making paintings.

Mix and match TWO of these themes for a full day -
(Please refer to my previous listing for details about each of these themes.)

Alternatively, choose the Composition workshop -

(includes colour mixing, mark making and collage)
10am - 5pm

We spend the morning creating painted papers in a range of tones and textures, and sheets of experimental mark making.

After lunch, we will build abstract compositions by cutting, tearing and glueing the painted papers.

The advantage of this approach is the design flexibility afforded by collage.

This session is a great way to sample the basic principles of Kate's painting workshops, and you will leave with a series of small collages that you will be proud to frame!

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All materials are included, with an A4 sketchbook for colour notes and ideas. Various papers, paint, inks and pencils, pens and pastels to experiment with. Use of all studio equipment.

Great coffee, tea and home made cake for breaks, and a delicious vegetarian lunch!

In-person course
Mark Jeavons - - #34715

I met Kate while on holiday in Pembrokeshire. The amazing scenery etc enspired me but I had little confidence in using colour in my art. After seeing how well she used colour in her art I decided to do the half day colour course with Kate, playing with colour and learning how to use acrylic and mixing, tools to use etc. I loved it and am inspired to take on more colour projects.
Kate it lovely and very good at guiding you down whatever route you want to take to improve your skills.
Great coffee and cake too 😊 I'd recommend Kate to anyone at any skill level. And hope one day to return and learn/play more.

Response from Coach House Studio:

Thank you Mark! Our session was great fun, not least because we had so much to talk about. As your “guide” through the various colour experiments, your enthusiasm was very rewarding. The way you interpreted my suggestions resulted in some really original, exciting pieces.
Fantastic that you’ve carried on experimenting and making new work since our afternoon in the studio. I look forward to your next visit to the Coach House.
