Students can choose to make one of the following, however both students must make the same item.

Traditional silversmithing jewellery workshops are run by Debra Pike for 2 people to ensure quality step-by-step guidance from design to the finished piece. Each workshop must be run with 2 people per session, minimum age 16.

Pendants Workshop
You will begin by making a simple copper pendant using traditional silversmithing techniques. You will be guided to design, saw, file, form, solder, sand and polish your pendant adding textures if you choose. You’ll then move on to making a second pendant in sterling silver by applying the same techniques. You may even choose to solder a small handmade copper accent to your pendant for contrast using any leftover copper sheet from your other pendant.

The cost of the workshop includes tuition, materials to make one copper and one silver pendant (approx 10g silver) and light refreshments. A range of sterling silver chains will be available to purchase for around £3.50 - £4.00 if required.

Spinner Ring Workshop
You will me making your own sterling silver spinner ring, with either one or two spinning bands in silver and perhaps an optional copper spinning band for contrast. You will be guided through the process first learning how to measure and size your ring, and then on to using traditional silversmithing techniques including sawing, soldering, sanding, texturing and polishing. You can add textures to the main ring, the spinning bands, or to all of them - the choice is yours, and will make you spinner ring truly unique and personal.

The cost of the workshop includes tuition, use of all tools and equipment, silver for one ring with up to two narrow spinning bands (approx 10g silver) and light refreshments. Additional silver may be purchase on the day for an additional silver spinning band, time permitting.

Bangle Workshop
Take home a solid silver bangle of your own making! You will be guided through traditional silversmithing techniques to measure, design, saw, texture, solder, sand and polish your own sterling silver bangle/s and perhaps even make a small beaded charm to solder onto your bangle.

The cost of the workshop includes tuition, silver to make either one thicker bangle or two narrow bangles (approx 10g silver) and light refreshments. Additional silver may be purchased on the day to make a further bangle, time permitting.

Stacking Rings Workshop
In this workshop you will create a set of three sterling silver stacking rings. You will be introduced to traditional silversmithing techniques, including measuring, sawing, forming, soldering and texturing. Once your rings are finished, you will have the opportunity to solder a small sterling silver bezel cup onto one of your rings. You will then be guided through the process of setting a semi-precious cabochon gemstone into the bezel cup to add a splash of colour to your stacking rings.

The cost of the workshop includes tuition, the silver to make three narrow stacking rings (approx 10g silver), a sterling silver bezel cup with a choice of semi-precious cabochon gemstone and light refreshments.

Earrings Workshop
In this workshop you will make two pairs of sterling silver earrings. You will have the choice to make either a pair of hoop or dangle earrings plus a pair of stud earrings.

Using a combination of silver sheet and wire, you will begin with the design process. Once you’ve designed your earrings, you’ll be guided through the traditional silversmithing techniques including sawing, filing, forming, soldering, sanding and polishing. You can be as creative as you like, adding textures or soldering small metal accents for contrast. Additional silver will be available to purchase if you would like to make a third pair, time permitting.

The cost of the workshop includes tuition, sterling silver for two pairs of earrings as described (approx 10g silver) and light refreshments.

What's included in the price?

Included in the workshop price is all tuition, use of tools, sufficient sterling silver as described in each workshop description and tea, coffee and biscuits.

Please bring with you: Pen or pencil and notepad. Your own lunch. Apron.

Clothes: Please wear old clothes, and for health and safety purposes, no open toe shoes. Please ensure long hair is tied back. The studio is heated so wear comfortable clothing.
