Seaglass jewellery workshop at Sea & Solder

Description

Make your very own seaglass ring or pendant.

A one day taster course where you will learn basic silver smithing skills in sawing, filing, forming, soldering and finishing or come along to build on the skills you already have and make use of the workshop space and teaching environment.

Courses start at 10am and run no later than 4.30pm with a short break for lunch in Corfe Mullen, Dorset.

This course is suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to advanced, we run small classes of up to 4 students.

Bring along your own seaglass (Jules will check and let you know if its suitable to use) or choose a piece from Sea & Solders collection.

You can choose between making your own seaglass ring or pendant in 925 sterling silver. There is also the option to make a silver bangle or cuff too (with a additional charge of £15).
Unfortunately due to the time involved in making a piece of seaglass jewellery you will only have time to make a piece of jewellery with one piece of seaglass, making earrings or cuff links is difficult in the time frame for beginners.

A fun relaxed day, with refreshments and cakes provided.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult who is also booked onto the course.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

The price of the course includes tuition for the day, one piece of sea glass/stone/pottery to use in your jewellery, enough 925 sterling silver to make a 2mm round ring or 4mm flat ring and bezel for a sea glass ring or a small bezel for a pendant (Seaglass size up to 2cm, see photos for examples) as well as the use of the workshop and tools. If you wish to make a larger piece of jewellery please contact Jules in advance, there will be an additional charge for silver (£1.50 per gram) and a bangle/cuff can be made with 2mm silver wire this has an extra charge of £15.

This was a fantastic introduction to silversmithing! Jules is a really encouraging tutor with a passion for her craft. She has created a lovely workspace with everything we needed to create stunning pieces by the end of the day. The pace of the workshop was excellent - having a maximum of 4 participants means Jules is able to give participants plenty of attention and I never needed to wait more than a few minutes for support when I needed it.
I would definitely recommend this workshop and Jules as a knowledgeable and encouraging tutor who will help you achieve something you will be really proud of.

Thanks Jules for a wonderful and enjoyable workshop. Your patience and excellent instruction enabled me to create a pendant that I absolutely love. Class size was just right too at four. I highly recommend this class to anyone.
Thank you and I look forward to coming to another one soon!

Really great fun day. Loved making my own piece of jewellery and lots of lovely pieces available to buy too.
Well explained and demonstrated day, plenty of coffee and tea offered too!
Would definitely recommend

I am delighted with the piece Jules enabled me to realise. I learnt a great deal through the experience. Jules helped at every stage, but did not interfere, advised when asked and ensured we had the appropriate level of supervision. The workbenches were exceptionally well equipped She helped me to achieve a high level of finish which I did not expect. Some patience is needed as her time is divided and you may not be able to work at your own pace. However, she worked above and beyond to ensure we all finished our pieces without any time pressure. Thank you Jules.

Jules workshop was fabulous! I absolutely love the ring I made. She was very helpful and patient, taking time to show us how it is done and then helping us make our own creations. I would recommend this to anyone who would enjoy creating their very own, one off, piece of jewellery.

Response from Sea & Solder:

Thank you Amber. It was lovely to meet you and see how much you enjoyed your day with us. Your ring is just wonderful.

I attended a seaglass jewellery workshop with Jules and came away with the most beautiful ring. Jules taught us step by step throughout the day, provided plenty of tea and a lovely environment. The workshop is wonderful with lots of tools and everything we needed for the day. Ive since booked onto one of her stacking ring workshops so I can add to my seaglass ring, I cant wait! J

Response from Sea & Solder:

Hi Julie, it was lovely to have you in the workshop and help you make your truly wonderful ring. I am looking forward to seeing you again soon to help you make your stacking rings.

Super day and learned a huge amount. Jules was patient and informative. I loved the seaglass and silver item I made attached to a bangle. There were only two of us so we had a lot of tuition. I will definitely try something similar in the future.

Response from Sea & Solder:

Thank you Judy. It was lovely to meet you and well done on making such a wonderful piece to add to your bangle.

Jules is one in a million! Having previously bought a one of a kind sterling silver Seaglass ring I was already in love with the work sea & solder was producing. Her customer service was 10/10, sufficiency, organisation, new equipment, extremely insightful and knowledge was flawless. I decided to book a session with my friend to do a stacking ring workshop for both our birthdays and it was the best present / activity we have both done in a long time. Our rings look beautiful, a well spent session we will definitely be booking on again and taking friends and family too! Thank you Jules so much

I had such a great day! I have no previous experience and do not consider myself particularly creative so was a bit unsure what to expect. Jules creates a relaxed environment where with her tuition, anything is possible! I really enjoyed learning how to make my cuff and am extremely proud that I made something so lovely. I am trying very hard to find another beautiful piece of sea glass so I have an excuse to come back and try creating something else.

Response from Sea & Solder:

Nicky your cuff was fantastic, well done and thank you for a lovely review. Best of luck with your future seaglass hunting.

My partner bought me this experience for Christmas and I didn’t know how much I wanted to do it until I experienced it! Juels was lovely, very warming and easy going. I had never worked with silver before so I was slightly nervous but a relaxed environment, good coffee and an excellent teacher resulted in my first of many silver pieces. I had no idea what would come of the day and didn’t believe I could make a piece of wearable jewellery, but I now get endless comments on my bangle and it never comes off. Lots of laughter, a strong supply of oat milk and knowledge to last a lifetime, plus my beautiful handmade seaglass bangle. A huge thank you for sharing your skills 🌞

Response from Sea & Solder:

Frankie it's great to hear your bangle hasn't come off and you have had lots of lovely comments. Well done on creating this lovely piece of jewellery. It was lovely to meet you and see you create such a unique piece on the day.

I had such a lovely time with Jules! She was a great teacher and super patient and knowledgeable with all the questions. I am so obsessed with my sea glass ring, I didn’t bring my own piece of sea glass and Jules had tons for me to choose from. I receive compliments on my ring all the time and it’s so cool to be able to say I made it. I did another session to make some stacking rings that complete my sea glass ring.
I’ll definitely be back for more, hoping to do one of the 10 week courses in the future.

I had a lovely day making a sea glass ring with sea glass I had found from my local beach. Jules was a very patient and knowledgeable teacher - I had no idea how much work goes into making a ring!
Her workshop is lovely and I absolutely love the ring that she guided me in making.

I absolutely loved this workshop. I have personally made sea glass rings but wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly, Jules was so helpful, informative and happy to continue her advise after the course. We had 2 rings and 1 necklace pendant being made, where she was able to work within everyone's pace. There was a lovely environment and I am very envious of her cute little garden workshop. Completly covid safe. I have told friends and family that I highly recommend the course.

Response from Sea & Solder:

Thank you Vicky. It was lovely to have you in the workshop and see you create a beautiful piece of jewellery with the skills you already had. And thank you very much for the recommendations too.

I was one of 4 complete beginners in the Sea and Solder studio, and it was an amazing day. Julia was an enthusiastic and brilliant teacher guiding us through the various techniques with clear instructions and demonstrations.
The small group allows for very individual teaching, and unlike many other courses I’ve been on, we all completed something quite different and original. (One ring, one bangle and 2 very different pendants.)
Everyone came away with a huge sense of achievement and a good understanding of basic silversmithing techniques.

Would absolutely recommend Sea and Solder, not only for the amazing jewellery I have had previously but now for the incredible courses too. I had a fabulous time with Jules, she is so patient and knowledgeable. The final piece is great, I can't believe I made it! Lucky to have found such a encouraging teacher, can't wait to come back and craft some more special pieces for friends and family. Thank you so much!

This is the best idea to ever have! I've never felt so attached to a piece of jewellery! I absolutely love my silver and seaglass necklace that I've made. And I have a newfound appreciation for the process of making a piece...it's so technical! It's worth spending the money to create a piece that is completely personal, robust and will stand the test of time.

Ive learnt a lot, left with a piece I'll treasure forever and the help and advice from Jules was invaluable. Thank you Jules!

I did a jewellery workshop with Jules and was really impressed by her knowledge and her way of teaching. I've done a couple of jewellery workshops in the past but Jules' class was by far the most enjoyable and the one I felt I gained the most skills. She also has an extensive range of equipment so there are no limitations on what you can make. I will definitely be going back!

Response from Sea & Solder:

Beth, thank you for a lovely review. It was fantastic having you in the workshop and seeing how much you enjoyed making your beautiful ring. I hope to see you again soon. Jules

I absolutely LOVED the course that I did with Sea and Solder. I have never done anything like this before and was a little apprehensive on arrival, but I needn't have worried! Everything was explained so clearly and I was guided through each step. The day was so much fun (my daughter and I did the course together which was just lovely) and I made a ring with a piece of sea glass that I'd found locally. I am so delighted with the end result - it's my favourite piece of jewellery and I'm still amazed that I made something so beautiful myself! I highly recommend Sea and Solder - I will definitely be doing more courses in the future. I really need a bangle now to go with my ring...

Response from Sea & Solder:

Thank you soo very much for a lovely review Rosey. It was an absolute pleasure having yourself and your daughter in the workshop. I'm soo pleased you enjoyed your day and it's so wonderful to hear that your seaglass ring is your new favourite!
It would be fantastic to have you back one day to make that matching bangle!
Jules
