Sand casting in glass is a very creative and exciting experience. This glass casting day is for absolute first timers and experienced artists alike. Each person will design and make three glass pieces during the day which they can take away after a three day cooling process in a kiln.
The morning is spent designing and creating sand moulds using forms, shapes and colours with the opportunity to add metals. After lunch we use the alchemy of molten glass at 1150 degrees from the furnace.
The liquid glass is poured into the moulds to create amazing and unique glass art works. Inclusions of colours and metals, leafs can be added between the layers. The resulting glass pieces are always amazing and surprising. This is a very rare opportunity to try an exciting and creative glass craft.
This is a very unique and exciting course brought together by two professional artists with highly unique experiences and workshop facilities.

I first took the sand casting course with Ewa and Jon a few years ago and am now completely hooked! It's mesmerizing to see glass being poured (by Jon), honey like, into your sand moulds, made a few hours earlier by me in Ewa's studio. The excitement of seeing this alchemic medium transport your ideas into something so amazing is palpable. Both Ewa and Jon are extremely patient, helpful, happy to experiment with you but also able to guide you and your ideas to fruition. All you need to bring is some inspiration and a few things to press into the sand for your moulds, though Ewa has lots of shapes too so actually you can come with nothing but leave with something truly creative, and above all having had a lot of fun.
This was my first experience of sand casting with glass. It’s an amazing experience for anyone. Eva is friendly, relaxed and strikes a good balance of being supportive and encourages you to experiment . The studio has pieces Eva has created which is really helpful and gives you ideas of what you like and ideas of what’s possible. Jon poured the glass, so don’t worry you are perfectly safe. The are a great team and it was lovely to meet them. The best bit is walking away with 3 amazing pieces of glass that you didn’t know you had the ability to make. You will want to go again .
This course is fantastic introduction to hot glass sand casting. Both Jon and Ewa are very good at providing a wonderfully relaxed and creative atmosphere. Within an already beautiful setting. These artists are happy to answer questions, lend a had and inspire wherever needed.
