About the Course

Half-day Japanese Kintsugi Workshop at Plas Glyn y Weddw - The Art Gallery by the Sea on the stunning Llyn Peninsula of North Wales.

Kintsugi is the magical Japanese art of repairing broken pots with gold. This workshop will involve learning some traditional and modern skills of repairing ceramics.

The session will start with using handmade marbled paper, 24k gold leaf and gold thread as we learn about this ancient traditional art. We will then work with a variety of ceramics which will be lovingly repaired using lacquer and gold metal powder. Each piece restored will be unique and beautiful.

This is a wonderful metaphor for life. The cracks and our experiences in life make us stronger, unique and beautiful.

Plas Y Wedd is set in beautiful grounds of The Willan and is just a walk away from the sea.
The Winllan is part of the Plas’ original garden and has a network of trails that are extremely popular among walkers throughout the year.

The part of the coastal path which links Llanbedrog beach with Mynydd Tir y Cwmwd heathland leads through the Winllan. Walking along the sandy beach, then entering the dense woodland before emerging onto the vast expanse of the heathland with its fantastic views is an unforgettable experience.

Our class will be held in the workshop studio on the first floor of the gallery. Downstairs you will discover a delightful conservatory cafe serving delicious teas, coffees and cakes.

This is sure to be an experience you will cherish.

My Kintsugi artwork is featured in the October 2019 issue of Uppercase Magazine.

"Absolutely every aspect of the day was wonderful. The course surpassed my expectations in every way. As someone who is not at all artistic, Pippa's teaching style and meticulous attention to detail in the preparation of resources ensured that I felt really delighted with the artwork I produced. The pace of the day was just right and the amazing cakes provided as part of the experience were above and beyond what I think any of us expected. I have come home feeling thoroughly uplifted and inspired. Thank you!"
