Intermediary Glass fusing workshop with Laura Hart of Hart Glass

X

Description

Selected by the Michelangelo Foundation, Laura’s glass orchids were exhibited at the 2018 inaugural Homo Faber exhibition held in Venice. Now recommended by the Homo Faber guide as a Master Artisan in the field of glasswork, Laura upholds the Michelangelo Foundation’s ethos with her glass fusing and kiln forming courses; aiming to ignite a passion for the medium and inspire new practitioners to perpetuate crafting excellence. Day One We begin at 10 am. There will be two pieces of clear base glass at each workstation and a firing chart for the end of the day. On your first day you’ll get a chance to brush up your cutting and edge grinding skills on the scrap box. We’ll have a brief chat about glass fusing stages in the firing chart. This will determine the techniques and glass types you use to create the first layer of your work. We have a brief discussion at the kiln at 3pm before the first night of glass fusing. Day Two We begin at 10am. You will each have a copy of the second firing schedule. The work will be cool enough to handle so we can discuss the results from the previous day. Then you can begin creating the surface texture layer. As the day progresses you will learn about the chemical reactions as glass fuses and its impact on the effect you’re striving to achieve. We aim to be loading the kiln by 3pm where we will go over the firing schedule. The work will be ready to collect from Midday the following day. Postage at cost. Laura Hart’s award winning glass flowers, butterflies and ‘Picasso’ works have exhibited in premier galleries around the world; Corning Museum USA, Etienne Gallery Netherlands, Vessel Gallery London, ‘Glass Life Forms’ 2016, 2017 Tresor Craft Switzerland. Collect 2016/2017/18/19/20. 'Homo Faber', Michelangelo Foundation 2018, Venice. National Glass Prize 2021. British Glass Biennale 2022. Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2023.
