X

Description

Are you a bead or glass fanatic? Then this course is for you. Learn how to make your own glass beads, which will give you a real feel for how bigger pieces of glass are worked to make sculptures. Flamework/Lampwork bead making is the process of making glass beads using; in this case, a hot head. In this beginner's class, we will look at: equipment and health and safety, using the torch, making a basic doughnut shaped bead, plus decoration and some shaping. Expect to make around 8 beads in this 3 hour session, I can also help you build on existing skills such as making sculptural animal beads, encasing, using silver. Please note these prices include materials. COST My home workshop only fits up to 3 people, which means any course booked will not be cancelled due to low numbers. The course price shown is for ONE to ONE classes. (If another person wants to book the same date as you, I will get in touch to discuss this.) If you are booking for 2/3 people the course fee will be reduced per person (usually by around 30%) so please get in touch for me to organise this for you. Class runs from 10 – 3pm. Classes take place in Colchester, Essex. All materials included but please bring your lunch.

FAQs

Colchester is in North Essex and roughly an hour by train from London.

Sorry no. In order to keep costs down I ask that students bring their own lunch, it also helps to keep the stress levels down when working out what people are able to eat. I do supply tea, coffee and biscuits though.

Age need not be a barrier, however much of the equipment I use is not suitable for primary-aged children. I do ask you to vouch for any young person who comes in terms of how they will work with potentially dangerous tools. You can always book to come together.

I do have a garden workshop, which is on ground floor level but can be cold at times. If you have any accessibility needs, do get in touch and I will do my best to accommodate you - that might be running the workshop in my house instead of the garden workshop, running a class online, or even coming to you (in order, to make this viable it works best if you have a couple of friends who'd like to join in too.)

Yes, my road is not a busy one, so you can usually park on the road outside, or even on my drive, if we remember to move our car over.

Yes I do. Please get in touch and I will confirm the price per person for 2 or more people. Usually, the price goes from £145 for 1 to 1 to around £125 per person.
