Sue Adams-McMillan reviewed: Jewellery from reclaimed copper

"I was gifted a copper jewellery making course at The Bridge Studios, with Lesley. It's a bit of an odd place to find, in that you approach it (according to google) and you have to do an odd hairpin bend to find the entrance. The course was great. Lesley was friendly and informative, her demonstrations were easy to follow and she spent time with each of us to make sure we got the technique right. We were taught a range of jewellery making skills, with the tools and I came home with 2 bracelets (one for me and one for my daughter) and earrings that I made. I also met some lovely people who made the day enjoyable. This is a reasonably priced course and I managed to pair it with a weekend in Cardiff. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Personally I could have stayed all day making things as she gave us lots of ideas to run with. Thanks Lesley."

I will doing more days with Amanda as my head is full of other designs I would like to make and to have more superb lunches!"

Bob Conolly reviewed: Wood turning courses in the Midlands

"My partner bought this one day course as a Christmas present, as I had often expressed a desire to work with wood, and in particular in wood turning. I spent the 31st of Jan with Mark, from 0920 in the morning until 1850 in the evening! I have attended many courses throughout my life, and this one rates as one of the best. Mark has a tremendous breadth of knowledge which he tried to impart to me. By the time I left I was both physically and mentally tired. We covered use of all the basic skills with the 7 prime tools, with plenty of hands on time on a lathe. I feel that I now know enough to decide whether or not to invest in equipment, but more importantly what to look for and how to avoid over-spending. Overall a fantastic course that fulfilled all my requirements, and more, with a gentleman who was a pleasure to spend time with."

Liz DE CHASTELAIN reviewed: An introduction to wood turning with Gregory Moreton (2 Days)

"This was actually the second course I've done with Greg and it was just as good as the first time! An artist and expert turner who's friendly, relaxed and very thorough and an attentive teaching style makes for a thoroughly enjoyable time in his very well equipped workshop. I took some of my own new chisels etc along and he showed me the correct way to use and resharpen them. His wealth of knowledge and experience allows him to be flexible and so you will learn everything you need to -plus if you have a particular question or desire to gain extra practice in a particular skill, he can focus according to your needs. I wouldn't consider going to any other tutor now. Thanks again Greg! Liz"

maureen brown reviewed: Wood carving for beginners and improvers at Ness Botanic Gardens Cheshire

"I did this course at the end of January. It was great, John had so much patience and made no attempt to rush us. He explained everything clearly as we went along. I really enjoyed the whole course and learnt so much. I had never done any carving before so was a wee bit scared of making a mess of everything. If you enjoy making things or just messing about with wood, have a go at this course, I am sure you you won't regret it. Maureen Brown"

John White Woodcarving responded:

"Hi Maureen, thank you for your kind review. I am very pleased you enjoyed it, especially as you travelled quite a distance. Very best wishes John & Carol"

"Robert encourages class members to try different mediums and techniques in their drawing and painting. Robert always gets around each individual member of the class at least twice in the session and is always available for individual advice if needed. When introducing a new topic he will bring examples of different artists work for discussion and will demonstrate techniques. Robert is positive towards student's work helping them improve and enjoy the class. The Kings Heath Park Tea Rooms is a pleasant venue to work in."

Sarah-Jane reviewed: One-to-One Jewellery making course including wire work (beginners)

"What a fantastic experience and great fun to share with my daughter. The quirky, homely and relaxing studio set the scene and Jolene was so knowledgeable and calm it made the whole experience quite therapeutic and very enjoyable for us both. Jolene inspires you with confidence from the start and at the end of the day we both had three lovely pieces to be proud of and take home and show to family and friends. It’s a wonderful gift to give someone of all ages and an ideal excuse for family and friends to get together and do something different. Without doubt we will be going back (we haven’t stopped talking about it since) And as a bonus Jolene makes lovely coffee the best banana bread ever tasted! Thank you so much for a wonderful and memorable day. See you again soon!"

John Wallis reviewed: Blacksmithing, bladesmithing and metal craft

"Go on,yes, you can do it! If your curiosity has got you as far as reading this review then you really should book the course. Your reason for hesitating so far could be anything but maybe you are thinking of the cost; it's definitely worth it, you will go back home having learnt something new, with items you've made, and I am sure, a satisfied glow. Maybe you are worried about being judged, Nigel guides you in safe easy steps and is there to help if you ask, but he doesn't judge your work. The only person that might do that is you. I did the 2 day course, the first day is the same for everybody but the second day is really up to you. Taking a thought in my head and managing to turn it into a 3D garden sculpture, was a very satisfying achievement. It's spurred me on to make other things in metal and I will certainly be booking another course with Nigel when I have another project in the future."

If you ever fancy developing your skills further in the future, it would be great to have you both back on the course. You need to get that wheel so you can get practicing. Best wishes Mathew"
