Throwing for beginners

Throwing a small bowl

This one day throwing workshop takes place at an art centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

The pottery workshop can accommodate 5 students at a time.
Clay and tools are provided and the fee includes the bisque firing of one finished thrown pot. If you want to fire more pots then this can be arranged at a small cost.

It is recommended that you bring your own apron or clothes that you don't mind getting clay on and your own small towel.
Please wear a mask or a visor during the tuition.
I will be wearing a visor and we will all be socially distancing throughout the day.

This course is designed for beginners wishing to learn the basics of throwing a cylinder - the basis of most thrown pots. More experienced throwers can be shown more advanced techniques.

The workshop will run subject to two people being booked for each day.

To book please press 'see available dates' or if you have any questions regarding the workshops you can contact me through the 'chat with the maker' button.

If you find that you need to rearrange the course for a later date I will need at least two weeks notice.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

Tools and clay are included.
The cost to fire one thrown pot is included.
Other pots can be fired at a small cost.
It is advised that you bring your own packed lunch.

I spent a really enjoyable day on this course. Charlie was a great teacher and showed us step by step how to throw a cylinder and was so knowledgeable and so patient! We all managed to throw pots and it was wonderful learning about the clay and techniques. I would highly recommend it. Thanks Charlie and I’m looking forward to coming back and doing some glazing.

Response from Charlie's Pots:

Hello Liz.
Thank you for your lovely comments.
It was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to seeing you for the glazing.
Best wishes

Both my wife and I attended a tuition day, the course was great. Charles gave full explanations and support throughout the whole day, which made for a fantastic day of learning and experiencing new things. Thanks Charlie for a great day, hope to see you soon.

Response from Charlie's Pots:

It was lovely to meet you both.
Your pots are now ready to be glazed.
Hope to see you soon.
