This one day throwing workshop takes place from 10am to 4pm at an art centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

Clay and tools are provided and the fee includes the bisque firing of one finished thrown pot. If you want to fire more pots then this can be arranged at a small cost.

I will be wearing a visor and we will all be socially distancing throughout the day.
This course is designed for beginners wishing to learn the basics of throwing a cylinder - the basis of most thrown pots. More experienced throwers can be shown more advanced techniques.
The workshop will run subject to two people being booked for each day.
To book please press 'see available dates' or if you have any questions regarding the workshops you can contact me through the 'message the tutor' button.
If you find that you need to rearrange the course for a later date I will need at least
two weeks notice.

Tools and clay are included.
The cost to fire one thrown pot is included.
Other pots can be fired at a small cost.

Both myself (Lindsay) and my wife (Francine) attended a tuition day, the course was excellent.
Charles gave full explanations and support throughout the day, which meant we achieved our goal of throwing some half decent looking pots. The day was a great learning experience which we intend to continue / take further.
Thanks Charlie for a great day, looking forward to glazing our pots once kilned.
Hope to see you soon.

Hello ElizabethWhat a fantastic day, Charlie was very informative and patient and I left feeling confident in what we had learnt. Would highly recommend the day and I will be back for more!
Response from Charlie's Pots:
Many thanks for your comments.I really enjoyed the day. Charlie gave clear and completed instruction and direction - There is a great deal to remember!
My only suggestion would be to have more visual aids for each step of the process of throwing. There was just one showing the steps. It would be helpful to have additional visuals per step reminding the student the position of their hands/arms and another explaining the key technique.
Really enjoyed the course, Charlie was very friendly and a great teacher. We can’t wait to come back and paint our pots!
Response from Charlie's Pots:
Hello ShannonThank you Charlie for a wonderful pottery experience in your fully equipped studio. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute in the welcoming and friendly environment. We appreciated your expert tuition from learning about the clay we worked with to the detailed step by step instruction, delivered with bucket loads of encouragement and patience. We very much look forward to learning about the glazing and to learning more about making pots.

Response from Charlie's Pots:
Hello JaneAs many of the other reviews state Charlie was a great teacher and very knowledgable. He was patient and focused on the areas each of us was finding difficult to get correct.
Charlie encouraged us to persevere, which meant we all got at least one pot out. The time went so quickly for me because it was a very enjoyable experience.
I would recommend this course to anyone who wishes to get a good grounding for stating a new hobby.
Many thanks Charlie from both Steve and Tracy 👍😊
Response from Charlie's Pots:
Hello Tracy and SteveThis was the most amazing craft course I have done in the last few years. My hubby enjoyed it immensely and I personally have been waiting to get my hands on a potters wheel to try this for 32 years since I was at school! It was definitely worth the wait. The tutor was lovely - really good at explaining everything during the day and I ended up with a mug, a double handled soup mug and 2 bowls for the days efforts, hubby 2 bowls and a mug) ready to fire before glazing at a later date! The course was even better than I was expecting and I'd recommend it to anyone who has even a vague interest in crafting! Charlie was a brilliant tutor! 5 stars all round :)
Response from Charlie's Pots:
Hello Lucy and ConorThank you Charlie for a very enjoyable course last Sunday. Your demonstrations and guidance was very clear and really helped me to understand the exact technique to manipulate the clay on the potter's wheel. I can't wait to see my items all finished off.
Both I (with little experience in throwing) and my stepdaughter (16 years old, total beginner) really enjoyed this course ! We both learned and improved a lot !
Charlie explained everything very well, he I was very patient, he took time with each of us to go through all the different steps till we succeed making lovely mugs !
I definitely recommend this course to anyone who’s is new at throwing !
