I took part in the one-day wheel course. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day; Lorraine is an excellent teacher, and the social-distancing arrangements and care for our safety were very good. It was a well-paced day, with time to try throwing, turning and decorating, all under Lorraine's expert eye. A lovely, refreshing treat; I would highly recommend it.
Response from Woodsetton Art Pottery:Thank you Sue,
Attended a taster course, Lorraine was very welcoming upon our arrival and showed us around. She was very informative and once we was shown what to do was left to have a go ourselves with Lorraine offering help and support when needed. It was a fun, friendly and relaxing atmosphere and would definitely recommend a visit.. will be visiting again.
I recently attended a free short workshop on the Hey Clay day with my children. We really enjoyed the session, Lorraine was very helpful and patient. We came away inspired to try more!
Response from Woodsetton Art Pottery:Many thanks for the great review. Follow me on Instagram or Twitter to hear about more open for all ages and new evening courses coming up etc. Best regards Lorraine
Very enjoyable and informative - was a great experience. Very satisfied
Lorraine is a great teacher and the pottery is set up well to accommodate a group. It doesn't matter if there are mixed abilities as Lorraine caters for each person, supporting them as needed. Her demonstrations are clear and helpful - you learn what to do but also why each step is needed and where common problems arise.
I have been twice and found each workshop to be great fun, relaxing and very satisfying, starting from little experience and building up to a point where I have a collection of pots including a mug and jug that can be used daily. I would highly recommend the course.
I also took my children to a free short workshop on the Hey Clay day - they were delighted to learn how to throw a pot and had two each by the end.
Response from Woodsetton Art Pottery:Many thanks for the review a pleasure to see you as always.
Excellent course and, as a complete novice, I learnt so much. A really enjoyable, relaxed day with fabulous tuition. Lorraine made us very welcome and was a fantastic teacher, helping us all achieve lovely end products. There were enough wheels for us all to use them at the same time and a very generous allowance of clay. I can’t wait to do another session and plan to return again soon.
What a fantastic day! Really should be considered as a local hidden gem! I would urge anyone creative to go visit the studio shop, which is full of wonderful things, as well as booking yourself onto a course! Lorraine is a fountain of knowledge and supports all on the workshop with the highest level of skill. Both Lorraine and her mum were very welcoming, helpful and friendly from initial booking right up to the end of the day. I am looking forward to booking another course early next year to do some Raku firings! :) Thanks Lorraine!
A very enjoyable, productive day. I have some experience at the wheel but wanted to get to grips with some fundamentals that I felt were inhibiting my learning. Lorraine was great at gauging the level of assistance required and establishing the balance between practical and theory with a mixed ability group. It was really helpful to understand the behaviour of the clay and why certain techniques work, or don't. I would definitely recommend the course and look forward to going back to further my understanding of throwing, firing and glazing.
A fantastic day. Lorraine is an excellent teacher, she taught both beginners and experienced students in the same class. I am a complete beginner and was surprised how well we all did. There were five of us on the course and we were able to spend time at the wheel or try our hand at working with moulds.
It is a very satisfying course as Lorriane guides you through each step clearly explaining the techniques, she lets you get on with it and experiment so it's really hands on. Lorraine continually circulates around the students spending equal amounts of time with each of us. With her help on hand all my pots turned out well.
With good facilities and great cake I can highly recommend the course. Great day away from the office!
