Marvellous Mosaic one day workshop

About the Course
The mosaic workshop takes place in a quiet studio, set within the historic town of Shrewsbury. The workshop is led by Lindsey, who has worked in 3 and 2D design, along with many years experience of teaching art, design and mosaics. During this one day workshop you will learn how to apply a range of tiles using the direct method onto an MDF base. There will be a large collection of tile material to choose from but please feel free to bring material from home that you would like to include. You will learn how to create colourful designs, use tile nippers safely, and grout your finished piece. There is a choice of bases from hearts, coasters or a trivet. The maximum group size is four people and the workshop is for adults. The day starts at 10.00am and finishes at 4.00pm, so please try to get to the studio by 9.45am for a prompt start. The aim is to explore this fascinating craft in a relaxed and friendly environment.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
There will be tea, coffee and cake (of course). Just bring your own packed lunch, although there are some great local cafes close by catering for all tastes. Bring an apron or wear clothes you don't mind getting grout on, as mosaic making is a bit messy! There is a NCP car park just around the corner with early bird parking if you get there before 9.30am. There is no parking at the studio. The studio is situated in a very uneven cobbled courtyard and we do not have toilets for disabled workshop attendees at the moment.
What a lovely absorbing way to spend a day. Lyndsey is clearly very experienced in her craft and her work is inspiring. I had plenty of time to attempt and complete several coasters and Lyndsey's guidance and tutoring made sure that we could all make the most of the day, the time and the very varied materials. There were only 3 of us and it meant that we had as much attention as we needed as well as time to be inspired. I hadn't tried mosaics before but am delighted with what I managed to achieve and would love to have another go. Thank you Lyndsey for a very relaxed, enjoyable and productive day.

Response from Lindsey Kennedy Portfolio:Thank you Ann for the generous and positive review. I’m so glad that you enjoyed your day experimenting with Mosaics. Do send me photos of your next mosaic projects, it was lovely meeting you!
I wholeheartedly recommend this workshop as an introduction to mosaic craft. In a relaxed atmosphere and surrounded by displays of Lindsay's own stunning mosaics, she will guide you through techniques, tools and tiles. You can decide your own design then choose which tiles to use from her large selection of shapes, colours and textures. You will also learn how to safely use nippers to create your own desired shapes. The small class size means you get lots of individual guidance and can work at your own pace. I guarantee that when you get your creation home, you will start planning your next, more ambitious, design.
Thanks, Lindsey, for great day.

Response from Lindsey Kennedy Portfolio:Dear Evelyn, thank you so much for the lovely review. I am so glad you enjoyed the workshop and you should be proud of the mosaics you created. I am also thrilled to hear that it is spurred you on to trying out new projects independently. My job is done!
The best therapy for a stress head like me, ever! From the minute I arrived until the moment I left, Lindsay packed the day with information, techniques, tips and the most valuable part, insight.
I was fortunate enough to be able to discuss my pending project with her from start to finish and Lindsay took the time to walk me through the whole prep. procedure which was the information I was missing. I learned how to nip tiles, about the difference between old pottery and new tile and how they cut, how to make something from even the 'waste' scraps. I made a coaster and developed an eye for a pattern I had no idea I had! For me, the most important thing I took away from my day on this course, was a quiet confidence that I could now tackle my 'go big or go home' project. I had a brilliant time, the whole day! Oh, and as a single footnote, Lindsay's Mum makes the absolute best Bara Brith cake! A fabulous day spent with an absolutely fabulously talented lady and teacher!
Thank you, Lindsay!

Response from Lindsey Kennedy Portfolio:Thank you Cath for the wonderful review. It was an absolute pleasure working with you on your ‘big’ project and getting just as excited! I’m really looking forward to hearing updates and seeing photos as it progresses. P.S. I’ll pass your comments regarding the cake to my Mum, thank you!
What a way to spend the day! I don’t know where the time went, the whole day was such an absorbing and enjoyable experience. Lindsey was an excellent tutor , explaining the techniques, the materials used and offering hints and tips on what works well - and not so well. I have lived in Shrewsbury for the majority of my life and had walked passed the blue doors thousands of times without realising that this beautiful courtyard existed behind them. I’m so glad I booked this course, I came away with two of my own mosaic creations and have now have gained the basic skills to go on and create more. Thank you Lindsey for a great day, and fab coffee cake!

Response from Lindsey Kennedy Portfolio:Thanks for the lovely review. It was a pleasure having you on the one-day course. Good luck with your future projects!
I had a great day on this course and would definitely recommend! Lyndsey made us feel so welcome and was really supportive every step of the process- giving lots of helpful hints and tips. The location is excellent with car parking, restaurants and cafes nearby. The day flew by- I’m amazed I came home with two of my own mosaics. Thank you Lyndsey, I can’t wait to have a go at making some more!

Response from Lindsey Kennedy Portfolio:I am so glad that you really enjoyed your day and I look forward to seeing photos of your future mosaic projects!
I absolutely loved my one day workshop with Lindsey. I had no prior experience at all but had always fancied trying my hand at mosaic. Lindsey was the perfect tutor, explaining everything I needed to know but encouraging me to learn practically by making my own piece under her guidance. I am so happy with the piece I made and my family can't believe it. I feel confident enough to have a go on my own at some basic pieces and will definitely go back to Lindsey for another workshop as I progress and become more ambitious!

Really interesting day at Lyndsey's beautiful workshop in historical centre of Shrewsbury. Lots of help and advice through the day. Nudged me in the right direction when artistic inspiration failed me! Lyndsey demonstrated grouting, cutting, use of tools, safety. Lots of examples of Lyndsey's own work and
I was able to watch her work in a fabulous piece of her own. I loved it. The time flew. Like being in another world. Lovely place. I brought home a piece of my own to finish which I am delighted with. I hope to go back soon.
