Andy Mills reviewed: Woodturning 2 day workshop

"I’ve just completed the first of two days of Woodturning with Andy. As a complete beginner I cannot overstate how invaluable it’s been to have someone with the knowledge and experience of Andy to teach me. Learning about chisels, sharpening and the fundamentals of turning has been incredibly interesting. I loved getting to have a go at turning coves, beads etc. Andy, Mary and their West Angus are friendly and welcoming hosts. I look forward to completing day two. "

Julie Buckley reviewed: Beginners spoon carving

"Thoroughly enjoyed this course. I was bought it as a birthday present and had no idea what to expect. We were met by Nick and Debbie who were both so welcoming and knowledgeable. The day flew by as we sat in the sunshine in their garden and turned a big lump of wood into a spoon using axes and knives. I’ll never look at wooden spoons the same way again. I left filled with ideas and inspiration and a fairly decent spoon for a first attempt."

Gosman Spoon Co. responded:

"Thanks Julie. It’s always amazing how much there is to making a simple spoon!"

Steve Hulme reviewed: Turn a wooden bowl on a traditional pole lathe

"Had a fabulous day turning a lump of Sycamore into (in my opinion) a very nice bowl,. Stephen is a really good teacher patiently explaining the process bit by bit so I didn't get too bogged down with instruction. I would heartily recommend this course but you do need a strong left leg, the treadle can be hard work until you find the right rhythm. All in all a great day and the homemade soup at lunchtime was really tasty, Thanks Steve, I learned something new, who says you can't teach an old dog."

Debbie reviewed: Two day stained glass workshop - lead panels or garden sculpture

"I have attended several workshops with Gigha including a leaded garden panel one and fusing. Gigha is a kind and patient tutor who really understands glass and how it can be transformed into beautiful works of art. She is extremely encouraging and also makes a great lunch if the workshop is over a day or two. The studio is quirky and brimming with her own creations which only inspire you to make your own pieces. It’s like an Aladdin’s Cave. One word of warning is that it is addictive and you won’t stop at one but I guarantee you will have a great time."

Ines reviewed: Watercolour techniques for all - 4 week online course - Tuesday evenings via Zoom

"This is an amazing watercolour course. Takes you step by step, and is ideal for beginners. You learn techniques and manage to have something to show at the end of each lesson, and gives you motivation to continue and do more. Love the fact that it's a remote course and that get a recoding of the lesson for later reference. Would recommend 100%."

Robert Mitchell reviewed: Ceramic Garden Seed Head and flower Ornaments - Emma Godden Ceramics

"Emma creates a welcoming ambiance, and communicates her knowledge of all things ceramic easily; even though part of a small group, I felt I was being tutored on a one-to-one basis. But we were all encouraged to be creative and develop our own ideas of shape, pattern and glazes freely. I felt I really achieved something during the day. Do I intend to book again? Yes, most certainly. "

Emma Godden Ceramics responded:

"Thank you Robert! It was a pleasure teaching you and I always love the challenge of figuring out how to make new shapes. Your seed heads have now been fired, so I will be in touch to organise collection!"

"Roger is passionate about what he does and it shows in his teaching. I went with no preconceived ideas but needed to understand the different mechanics of soldering, brazing and welding. Roger was more than able to discuss and demonstrate them and more besides. I have never micro soldered before and fell in love with it. I really intended to make life size garden sculptures but fell in love with his small sculptures. He was incredibly generous with his time, materials and knowledge and I hope to do more with him in the future."

Julia Drayson reviewed: Jewellery design painting with professional jeweller

"I thoroughly enjoyed Guillaume's class and highly recommend signing up! Guillaume is an excellent, thoughtful, and kind teacher who pays attention to detail and provides constructive feedback while remaining encouraging. The 2-hour course was well curated; Guillaume had us start with small semi-precious and precious stone designs, followed by metal painting, and finally leading up to a large metal and stone jewelry design. All materials were supplied and Guillaume made sure to provide an engaging and fun learning environment for all students. He answered our many questions and made sure to explain big and small picture items regarding the jewelry world and design, various types of metals and stones, and painting techniques. Overall, it was an immensely instructive and fantastic class! Through Guillaume, I learned so much about the craft of jewelry design, and I look forward to future course opportunities!"
