A unique and memorable workshop taught by two highly skilled glass makers.
You will arrive at the studio at 10:30am and run through health and safety regulations plus a small talk, after which you will be assisted in gathering some molten glass on your blowing iron and adding colours of your choice. You will then be guided on how to manipulate the molten glass to start creating a piece of artwork again of your choice but nothing to tricky to start with.
You will be able to collect all of your glassware the following day or it can be wrapped and posted to you at a cost of £15.00 per person.
Lunchtime you can visit the tearooms, browse the farm shop or even have a wonder around the antiques shop.
Closed in comfortable foot wear and cool clothing should be worn.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

Steve, Chris, and Angie are an amazing team - professional, talented, accomplished, and charming.
And this taster course is an outstanding experience - hands'on, fun, safe, informative, and creative!!
Gifted this course to my husband (I have a bit of experience already and was allowed to observe), who had a brilliant time. The instruction, care, and attention you get from Steve and Chris is world-class. So much information, so many techniques, and the many items that students get to create during this 1/2 day taster is simply awesome!!
We highly recommend this experience and this team of highly creative professionals. Thank you, guys!
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much for your review Maureen, it was a pleasure to meet you both.
What a great day. A very relaxed & friendly environment with lots of help & guidance. Learned much more about the process than expected & made a variety of pieces. Thoroughly recommended
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you for the kind review Mark, so glad you enjoyed your time with us.
This course is absolutely brilliant. Angie, Steve and Chris are so welcoming and they really put you at ease straight away. The course itself was superb, loads of hands on and we made lots of glasswork to keep as a mementos of a great day.
Steve and Chris are incredibly patient and great teachers. Their skills are second to none and they passed on this knowledge and I definitely improved as the course went on (who knew I could make a glass swan!) it was really good fun, informative and safe.
I would strongly recommend the course to anyone of any ability, it is so good and Steve and Chris will guide you all the way. Thank you for an absolutely excellent time.
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much Rob for your lovely Review, it was a pleasure to meet you and Steve said you were a pleasure to teach.
So much fun! Angie was so friendly and welcoming and Steve and Chris are clearly experts at what they do and really excellent teachers. In just 3 hours we felt like we learned and improved so much, and as soon as we left we were already discussing coming back for another session. Great value for money considering the quality of hands-on teaching and the number of pieces we made, definitely recommend!
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much for your kind review Jordan, the guys said you and Toby were a pleasure to teach. Lovely meeting you and hope to see you in the future.
Fantastic day! Steve and Chris were really engaging and very informative with their teachings. We did a half day course and we made 3 different vases and 2 paperweights. We're currently still waiting for our glass to arrive as it then takes a day to settle in the kiln.
We very much enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend this team if you're looking to try out glass blowing.
It's very warm in the rooms so when you visit make sure to wear something cool. Additionally you will need to wipe clean soapy water on your leg when moulding the glass and therefore don't wear anything too precious or can be damaged by water!
If you're not familiar with the area I would recommend Ring o'Bells Inn to stay at, it's only a 7 minute drive away.
The area hasn't got the greatest Internet signal in the world so if you're using the satnav to get there just be aware. We used post code BS40 6HW. Parking on site is free, walk past the antiques shop and handmade glass is the last building on the right :)
Hope we can visit again soon and maybe create a few more masterpieces!
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much for your comments Jess, we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us. Your glass is winging its way to you.
What a great day! This is such good fun and we got to make some really amazing pieces. I can't recommend it enough.
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much for your kind review Sarah, so glad you enjoyed the experience with us.
Glass blowing is something I have always wanted to try so when my friend gifted me a voucher I found this place and booked for the half day taster course for a few of us. I thought after training and demo we might make 2 pieces but I was pleasantly surprised to find that even with 4 of us it was so well organised that we got to make more and try far more techniques than I thought we would.
We had the finished products sent to us.
Booking, the day and receiving the items was all easy and seamless. Angie was very welcoming and Steve and Chris were very patient and made the day highly enjoyable. Would definitely recommend!
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Hi Bronia thank you so much for your kind review, it was a pleasure to meet you all. We are so glad you enjoyed your time with us, apparently you were all a pleasure to teach.
This course was fantastic! The guys there were so knowledgable, friendly, engaging and experienced. They guided us and enabled us to make some great items from glass. They made the experience interesting and fun and made sure we were safe and gave clear instructions which were easy to follow. We all enjoyed our morning there immensely and I would totally recomend this experience. We got loads out of it and was totally worth the price we paid.
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much for you review Aimee, it was a pleasure to meet you. We are so glad you enjoyed your experience with us.
We had a late availability course with Steve and Angie, both myself a my wife thoroughly enjoyed the session. We made numerous items, some of which vaguely resembled the models we were copying.
Even with the heat and closeness to the hot glass, we felt safe and that everything was in control.
Would definitely recommend this for people that want to have a 'proper' experience!!!
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much for leaving your comments John, it was a pleasure to meet you both. We are so glad you enjoyed your time with us.
Highly recommend this taster session. The guys at Chew Valley Handmade Glass are extremely knowledgeable and personable. I might even head back for the intensive 1-2-1 session.
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you so much Steve for your comments. We are so glad you enjoyed your course and you are welcome back for an intense couse anytime.
Bought as a gift for my partner, who loved it.
Due to COVID, the only bit he couldn't do was blowing into the pipe - but that's a really minor part, so didn't detract from the experience.
He brought home 5 pieces (which seems a lot more than other courses offer). Highly recommended!
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you for your review Rob, so glad your partner enjoyed the course.
I really enjoyed my morning with Steve and Chris. i made a small vase, bowl, single rose vase and 2 Swans...
I was given the course by my girlfriend and I was very glad to have done this course. I have no doubt I will go back again sometime and do the full day.
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:We are so pleased you enjoyed your morning with us. We would be happy to welcome you back for a full day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our half day glass blowing for 2 with Chew Valley glass. Steve and Chris were very friendly and accommodating, and did a great job in guiding us through the steps of glass blowing. We were given a choice over what item we made and a lot of freedom in the making process, all under the close guidance of Steve and Chris. It was a fantastic experience and we came away with a selection of very impressive items. Highly recommended.
Response from Chew Valley HandMade Glass:Thank you David for your kind review, it was a pleasure to meet you both and we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us.
