Iain reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Preston, Lancashire (1 Day)

"Liked the range of jobs to have a go at and info on kit. The chance to try new tools and techniques without any pressure or worry about getting it wrong. Even though I've done bits for years I wasn't that confident in some areas. Since doing the day I have realised that I can practice small jobs at home so that I can do bigger projects with confidence. I can get a block and screw things into it to practice but I never thought to do that (and I've been using a drill for years), or to try a new filler in between a corner of wood to see how it acts before doing the actual job. Nice folk & great cakes!"

The Boho Shed responded:

"It's all about having a go, practice and building confidence without the worry of getting it wrong, it's how we learn isn't it. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the range of topics covered, trying different tools and techniques, and of course the cakes. :-) Thanks for your lovely review Iain."

Paula reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Preston, Lancashire (1 Day)

"Excellent day of learning and trying common DIY tasks. In 5 hours we learnt about wall fixings, tools, electrics, fillers, paint prep, bleeding a radiator, even hung a small shelf... Give the great range of topics it's only possible to do a little in each. But we felt that was the point. READ THE DESCRIPTION is important. If you want to know how to build a pergola this course isn't it - and that's the point. The small tips on many things that we've been doing for ages, hands on with tools with someone watching you and can say "try it like this". And voila! Improvement cos no-one ever told us that. Not all of us had parents or schools were these things were taught so we pick bits up gradually, or not. But confidence takes time to build and that is one of the best outcomes of this day. What we might now tackle, what tools and bits we REALLY need, and as always what to leave to a professional. Small group of supportive, friendly folk with a range of experience in different bits, and no experience in many ;o)"

The Boho Shed responded:

"Thank you for your lovely review Paula, you were a pleasure to teach. I'm so pleased you left the workshop with increased confidence around all the different techniques we covered and I hope the notes and tools list provided will help to support you with you ongoing DIY projects. Give me a shout any time."

Tracey reviewed: Watercolour for improvers; developing further skills

"This is the fourth course I have done with Sarah and it has been as excellent as all the others. I now feel confident in tackling a wide range of subjects and techniques. Through the very clear instructions, given both in written sheets with photos and links to YouTube videos, I have continued to learnt new techniques through a range of interesting subjects. Although I could not imagine achieving many of the subjects and techniques this course covers, the very carefully designed steps that Sarah provided together with her detailed and encouraging feedback, have helped me achieve each one. In particular I thought painting people would be extremely difficult but I found I enjoyed this subject and have chosen to add people in more pictures. I have also enjoyed using paint and pen which has added a new dimension to pictures and I have the confidence to explore this further. Through my work with Sarah, I now have skills in watercolour painting that provide me with an activity that is relaxing, enjoyable and very rewarding. A huge thank you to Sarah. I very highly recommend this course. "

Sarah Colgate responded:

"Thank you very much, Tracey, for your review. It is great to hear how much you have enjoyed and found useful the four watercolour courses and as a consequence now feel confident in your skills to continue on your own. Also nice to know how rewarding painting has become for you as an activity. All the best, Sarah "

Martin & Paul reviewed: Woodturning for beginners

"I booked the 1-day beginner course for my partner's birthday, and we had a fantastic time. Stuart was an excellent instructor who tailored the course perfectly to our needs. Since we were just trying woodturning for a fun, one-time experience, he adjusted the focus to be more hands-on rather than spending too much time on theory, which was exactly what we wanted. Stuart was incredibly patient, showing us all the best practices and how to use the tools correctly. By the end of the afternoon, we were thrilled to have made a beautiful bowl and plate, and they turned out looking amazing! We would absolutely recommend Stuart to anyone wanting to try woodturning. This course is perfect for beginners or for those who need a solid introduction before starting on their own. We had such a great experience that we might even be back to practice more!"

The Scottish Woodturner responded:

"Hi guys, Many thanks for your review. So glad you enjoyed it and of course would be happy to see you both back any time. All the best. Stuart."
