Tracy Lindsell reviewed: Wooden mechanical toy (automata) making

"One of the most enjoyable courses I have been on. The communication before the course was spot on. Stef gives you the options of the style of automaton you want to make. (And you can tweak it to suit yourself….within reason🙂) The day itself was fabulous. Stef is a very talented and lovely man who enjoys sharing his skills. I will definitely be returning. (I’ve already dropped hints to Mr.L about Christmas presents…..)"

Penlan Crafts responded:

"Thank you, Tracy! "The Dancing Goats", based on your sketch, are delightful! Please send me a picture of the sky once it's completed... I'm sure it will be a real work of art! And yes, it would be great to have you back, maybe with Mr. L, to build something even more complex (maybe with bees, this time?). All the very best, Stef"

Lynn and Jeff reviewed: Living Medicine First Aid

"My partner and I had a really interesting time learning about which relevant herbs/plants and spices could be used to treat different ailments. It was a really relaxed environment and Diane explained all the stages of infusion. We both made an oil for rubbing and a balm of our choice. I would recommend the day."

Tom Ludwig reviewed: Woodland Management and Stewardship: October 2025

"This was one of those rare experiences that completely shifts how you look at the landscape around you. The course struck a great balance between practical fieldwork and discussion — from assessing stand structure and tree health to understanding the long-term planning required to build resilience in our woodlands. The emphasis on adapting management to changing climate conditions and rising deer pressure really brought home how proactive we need to be in caring for these ecosystems. For anyone involved in woodland ownership, nature recovery, or land management — this is a course that grounds you in the reality of what good woodland stewardship looks like. I came away with muddy boots, a full notebook, and a completely renewed appreciation for how much skill and foresight goes into managing a healthy, functioning woodland."

Rose London reviewed: Introduction to Blacksmithing 2 Day

"Really enjoyed the two day course here, I will definitely be back ! - I had so much fun and learnt so much in a short space of time. Dan is a really good teacher and even though I have really no experience of blacksmithing he helped me along a lot and I'm so proud of what I made, especially the rose! It's nice as well that I reckon I could get myself going at a forge myself if i wanted to to improve my skills in my own time :-) "

Tanya Almeida reviewed: Create beautiful paper sculpture in Derbyshire - More tea, Vicar?

"Liz was a welcoming host. She explained how to make the paper sculptures and started us on a simple, achievable piece - a string of birds. We then made a slightly bigger pieces of fruit. In the afternoon we made larger pieces, in my case a coffee pot. There were sample sculptures for us to look at and we could choose which one we wanted to make. Liz was on hand for problem solving and advice. The workshop space is bright and beautiful and Liz provided drinks as an when we wanted. It was a fantastic day and I love the sculptures I made. The pre-workshop instructions were detailed and clear. Liz even appeared at the end of her drive just as we were arriving, to make sure we hadn't got lost."

Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker responded:

Caleb Lambourne reviewed: Knife making weekend Gloucestershire

"An absolutely fantastic weekend, cannot recommend highly enough. It was remarkable for me, with no real experience, to take the raw materials and (under Arian's patient wisdom), turn them into a beautiful and unique knife that I am genuinely proud of and should last a lifetime. It was fascinating to get a real insight into the 'why' of each stage and process, rather than just following instructions. Arian ensures that you come away with a real appreciation of the craft and the reasons for each step or decision. He genuinely cares for the work being undertaken, and wants to connect with the people participating. It was very refreshing amid the busyness of life to have a weekend in the quiet of the workshop to focus on a single, practical task and objective; not have your attention pulled in lots of different directions! Good for the soul."

Nailsworth Community Workshop responded:

"Hi Caleb, thank you so much for this heart warming review. I'm delighted you appreciated the way I run the course, and I'm sure you'll get years of use out of your knife. Enjoy your foraging, and if you have any questions or need advice with anything do give me a shout. Regards, Arian"

Hershey reviewed: Furniture making and Cabinetry beginners course

"I had an amazing experience learning under Jake’s tutelage! His depth of knowledge in woodworking is incredible, and he’s a quick, creative problem-solver. Jake was accommodating, patient, and took the time to clearly explain each step and the use of every tool and machine. His enthusiasm and encouragement made the entire process even more enjoyable, and I was thrilled to leave with a beautiful table I built myself! I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to deepen their skills in furniture making. It’s informative, hands-on, and taught by a truly good instructor! "

Laura Swaddle reviewed: Beginners Knife Forging Day

"We spent a fantastic day learning to forge our own blades - our instructor Alex was friendly and super helpful, showing us all the techniques needed whilst ensuring we all took the lead on our own projects. The in-depth knowledge behind each step of the process was fascinating and we all benefitted from really understanding what was happening both physically and scientifically at each stage. This was a wonderful present for my partner's 40th birthday and we'll be recommending it to others! "
